  • it would help if it was in hd....

  • @dylanmskates At the time the video was submitted, YouTube wasn't posting HD video. If you check the electronistadotcom channel, the 2010 Flip Ultra HD's footage is posted in HD (and is a better camera, too).

  • This is a dope song. What is it called?

  • @theebob2008 It's "Travelogue" by Mr. Scruff. Go grab it (or the album "Keep it Unreal") on iTunes or your store of choice.

  • ottawa??

  • Good video did you have it on a tripod or was it hand-held? Thanks for the video.

  • @wslandry Handheld. Wanted to show how well it works in usual conditions, but still trying to get a good shot.

  • LOL is this in the redeau centre?

  • looks blur to me

  • lol rideau center

  • the quality does no favours on this video Looks blurred as can be Simply no definition

  • I bet the footage looks better on the your TV set than it does on youtube, Youtube compression kills the quality :(

I have the first flip Video Cam, its awesome.

    Good vid.

  • should i buy a flip mino hd or just use my sony ericsson w760a phone to record my videos any suggestions and i need them within the week in order to return the flip mino hd

  • The Flip Mino HD will have much higher quality than the W760a for video. Not to mention you won't kill your phone's battery just so you can grab footage.

  • that is true but im not really worried about the battery its just the price. im asking myself if it is really worth paying 156 for a camera although i already have one on my phone although it isnt all that great. you no what i mean. thank you for this info

  • The Flip Ultra HD *might* be cheaper. It's a bit thicker but it has the same features as the Mino HD. I'd suggest an iPhone 3GS (surprisingly good video), but you'd have to have the budget for a smartphone service plan.

  • thank you and i cant get an iphone just got a new one

  • Use the Flip Mino HD, it's great.

  • i am you should see the videos that i took with it

  • flip mino hd! its soo worth it! but be real careful with it. i learned my lesson. and now i dont have one anymore :(

  • what happened to yours?

  • a little devil child broke it lol. he dropped it on the cement. so dont drop it in other words XD

  • o thats no good ill keep that in mind

  • humm why is it out of focus looks like any other quality??

  • even know you have a HD camera you did not upload a HD video..

if youtube adds a HQ (high quality) button that means the video you uploaded is standard definition.

if youtube adds a HD (high definition) button that means you uploaded a high definition video.

  • yo how do i get HD then? i have the same camera wit the same problem

  • It's how you render the video.

  • great video

    plain and simple

    with great music

whered u get that song from?

  • i hav a mino nd it looks the same (to me at least)

    flipshare is great though

  • does anyone know if there is going to be a newer version of the Flip Mino HD coming out soon?

  • Just check news sites (like Electronista) for news. So far, no - it was only just introduced a few months ago. Might not happen for another several months. That means it's safe to buy. :)

  • Yah, the chrome.

  • @scotfever there is a new one out right now

  • nice quality, i live like 10min from ottawa XD.

  • Did you pickup your Mino in the U.S.? I see that the footage is from Ottawa. I want to get a Mino HD here (I live in Ottawa) but can't find a way to get it shipped into Canada

  • Mine was US, but check Future Shop or Best Buy soon -- I know they're bringing it to Canada.

  • MinoHd on ebay U.S. !

  • i think the kodak zi6 is better

  • On my test video it says "watch in HD" at the bottom, not high quality.

  • thats because he used flipshare to edit the video

  • Whats the real quality, when i watch it in normal quality on youtube,or on high quality?

  • yarko0 click "watch in hd" below the video on the bottom right hand corner and THAT is HD

  • What song is this?

  • It's "Travelogue" by Mr. Scruff from his album "Keep It Unreal."

You've probably heard tracks from him (that album especially) and not known it. Many would like it!

  • As was explained earlier in the comments: no, it's not HD. It was uploaded using Pure's built-in software (which doesn't preserve the 720p) and before YouTube flipped the switch on allowing 720p for uploads.

  • I think that if you didn't put that text in the beginning of the video, you would have watch in HD link on this video. Or you could have rendered this video in HD using like Vegas Video or something...

  • What does text at the start of the video have to do with it? Google/YouTube isn't flagging content as HD based on in-video text.

Now that HD seems to be more regular, I'll look at re-uploading the video without using FlipShare to do the final export. It's most likely not written to upload the video directly in 720p.

  • I'm not knocking the your video, it is still good. But if you were to upload directly from the flip (no editing) it is already rendered in HD format. If you use an editor that isn't compliant with HD format then the best your video will get is HIGH QUALITY instead of HD. Just do a youtube search for windowsguru84 and check out that flip video. He uploaded direct from the file that flip gives you.

  • notice that since this is in HD, the screen is wider. :D

  • Ah, but widescreen by itself doesn't mean HD. It just means that it has a wider aspect ratio.

HD means resolution, so it should look sharper -- not just wide.

  • I LOVE MR. SCRUFF!!!!

  • Even if it WAS the real HD quality even though it is compressed, I still think it's actually great quality for such a simple and small, sleek camera like the mino. Such a small camcorder has some power!

  • If this is their HD version, then it is a huge disappointment. That picture quality is terrible, and I'm watching in in high quality on here. Are you sure you set it up right before making this recording?

  • I'll repeat it again: this is the YOUTUBE COMPRESSED VIDEO. This isn't 720p. Certain things are the product of the camera (the transition between indoors and outside in the third scene, for example), but what you're getting is only what you see when you upload to the web.

    Besides, it's a $230 camera, not $1,000.

  • You're right.

It's YouTube, you should try uploading it to Vimeo.

    :)

  • Youtube allows watch in HD now. You should reupload using the uploader on Youtube to avoid compression.

  • kevin:

That's not entirely true. 720p is there, but you need to enable a special undocumented flag to play it. There's also no guarantee that an upload made today will actually remain HD by the time it's exposed to the public.

When 720p is known to be a regular feature, I'll try resending then, but it'd be a bit much to take a guess on it now.

  • this is youtube...is was compressed!!

  • I have a Mino Flip HD clip of my dog and it looks GREAT. Search YouTube for "merle hd" and you will see two 720p clips. Be sure to click on "watch in HD" right under the video for the hi-def version.

  • I have a question. Was ALL the editing done with flipshare??? I mean like music and fading in and out and all that. If not, can you tell me what you didn't use with flipshare?

  • Yes, it was - FlipShare adds the cross-dissolves and lets you pick music from your computer (it also lets you choose how loud the music is versus the video's own sound).

FlipShare lets you choose which clips appear in which order, though it doesn't let you trim the clips (i.e. cut off the start/end or split them in two).

  • i thought it was subpose to be a really clear video.....

  • First: make sure you've clicked "watch in high quality."

Also, keep in mind that YouTube videos are still much lower resolution than the camera can produce; the full, uncompressed 720p clip definitely looks sharper.

  • Is it possible to lower the recording quality from HD down to standard definition so that you can get more than 1 hour of video? How long does the battery last? Does it take still pictures?

  • You can't drop down to SD, unfortunately, but of course there's already a regular Flip Mino for that.

Battery life is about two hours and tends to hover around there in practice.

You can't take still pictures from the camera, but the FlipShare software for PCs and Macs lets you grab individual frames as photos.

  • (i rated 5 start) but i have a question. did you make this with the flipware-i mean putting music to it and editing the video?

  • Yeah - that was done entirely with the FlipShare software on the camera. There's not a lot of control, but it's good for getting footage up quickly.
