Bull trout didn't try to eat the cutthroat trout. The cutthroat trout yell HELP HELP, SOMETHING PULLING ME. The bull trout just came to help LOL. AHAHA JK JK good vid.
Amazing that you managed to get it on film. Had this happen in Livingstone and I was in absolute shock.... realizing I didn't even grab my camera that was in my pocket. Cheers for letting me relive the moment.
Check out some of the fish found up in Fernie BC Canada, on the Elk River.
In the youtube search bar type in "jacksonhobbs1" and you will see my Youtube Channel, and my cabin for sale. It has some amazing photos with big Trout from the Elk River in BC Canada. I'm sure you will like the videos!
That's pretty cool man! I had the same thing happen to me at Pyramid Lake NV 2 years ago. I was fighting a little 18" Cutthroat and a giant Cutty (about 14-15lbs) came up and took the lil 18 incher right off my fly! No video but I'll remember it forever though. Sweet video man
oh my god that was so cool! i had that happen with a bass. theres a great little warm water pond up the street from my house. i had a blue gill hooked up on my fly then suddenly the blue gill weighed like 8 pounds and i realized that a big ol bucket mouth was trying to eat the bluegill. pretty cool. never had it happen with a trout though.
Nice! That has happened to me several times, also! What a surprise when it happens! We had one bull that wouldn't let go, and I was able to hand-land it....he had the 16" cutthroat hangin out of his mouth like a dog would carry a bone...just like your video! Both the cutty and bull were successfully released that day! Tight lines!!
i dont tink it hany any intention of eating that cutthroat it just was inj his area so he got it out. he wouldnt have given up the chase if he was gonna eat him
Hmm... I think I know where this is. Great spot too. This is an excellent video. Have you ever fished the canyon and up, on RHC? (in acronymn but Im sure since you know the area and you'll know what Im talking about). I've pulled some awesome bulls out of there, last time in I did quite favourably. I ran into some CO's on the way out that were heading up to do a fish count on bulls - apparently people are still keeping them. Some folks never learn.
Wow... We fish brook trout around here in the adirondack mountains of NY. That is some great footage you got there. Stop by our site and check out some of our fishing videos or slideshows.
The last time I did that was when I ran away while having my friend chasing me for accidentally realleasing his fish that got eaten by another bull trout...
...I fished Lundbreck Falls on the Crow this past September, this video describes that event to a T, no matter how big a fish we had on the bulls would attack. Awesome vid!....
A couple of the pretty well-known fly-fishing books talk about pulling trout out of California rivers when 'something huge' suddenly eats the fish right off of the hook.
Now, we know what that 'something huge' is -- a huge Bull trout.
What river and what location did you shoot this video? It looks like Northern California.
This was filmed in southern Alberta Canada. The exact river name must remain confidential to protect the Bulls in that river. In the province of alberta, the Bull Trout is a protected species with a 0 kill limit. This has improved the fishing, but it still has a long way to go.
that's good a hard to get footage..awsome to see thx.
I had a small cutty on once(6-8 inches) and a Steelhead came up and had it in it's mouth by the tail for a few seconds. All I ever seen in bullies were whitefish fry(up to 5 inches).good stuff!
that happened to me but with different fish. We were out deep sea in the gulf and my dad had a grouper and about half way (we think) a 7 1/2 foot tiger shark got it! :)
pretty cool. I saw a bull trout chase a cutthroat up on a gravel bar out of the water one time. I couldn't believe my eyes. The cutthroat was exhausted and I revived him and got him on his way. I've had this same occurance happen many times in the Bob Marshall wilderness.
nice shot..i have had bull trout try to eat bull trout and dollies wile guiding in the chopper up in the bute on the coast here . and we have huge coastal cutts here and they try to eat each other as well. but never caught it on film.good times..
The headwaters to most of the streams and rivers in Southwest Alberta now have healthy populations of Bull Trout thanks to some aggressive protection laws. Rivers like the Oldman, Crowsnest, Castle, Highwood, Elbow, Bow,and Red Deer, all these Rivers can grow huge rod snapping Bulls.
23 guiding slot times left for this season. Drop us some mail if you are in need of Guiding service in Southwest Alberta in 2008. Bull Trout fishin is at it's best in July or August.

thanks! you can really appreciate the predatory nature of these seemingly benign fish. I would not want to be a cutthroat in that river.
