Hi, I am a student currently studying at the Theatre International de Jacques Lecoq and I'm afraid I have to agree with markyp19. I've just finished my first week working on neutral masks and the MAIN thing we are told is to NEVER convey emotion or 'speech' (talking with you're body, ie, the 'come here' gesture or the 'you've been bad' finger wag). As I understand it so far the neutral mask is a tool to make your movements bigger, or rather, more defined and controlled.

I am no college student, but I have studied the neutral mask, and if you try using it yourself, you will see the truth.
You have really missed the point of neutrality . the mask is a tool that helps the actor find a corporal dynamic, Its world exists in nature it is not psychological or emotional it is an expression of calm, the way you are playing the masks is totally contra to the pedagogy of Lecoq the mask is always in movement exploring the world of nature .The masks you are wearing are not even neutral. I hope this helps you identify the meaning or significance of neutrality as a physical state

Hey, thanks for the video...I'm an IB student as well and I have to conduct an hour and a half workshop on Lecoq tomorrow...any suggestions on what exercises i can make my 5 classmates do? Thanks again!
No problem! Good luck with your workshop. Do you guys do a lot of improv? I would suggest trying some normal improv games, but with the masks, and no sounds. We had an exercise where we put foreign objects on the floor, and people had to go and examine them as if seeing them for the first time, then present them to one another and the audience. It was difficult to do, as no one could see their faces. Using body movement and working with the props really helped convey what they were!

Primero la máscara no es Neutra,luego la máscara neutra nunca "hace" ese tipo de cosas,ni se coge la máscara con la mano. Ni siquiera habla. Ni mucho menos sxe pone un actor esa ropa cotidiana,ni la botella !!.
Todo eso contradice el espíritu mismo de la máscara que es por entero distinta y contraria al Naturalismo. Eso que les has puesto a los actores es una máscara. Y además no funciona con esa ropa.
Deberías estudiar Mäscara Neutra con un especialista de verdad.
Estamos en una sala de clase con la financiación limitada. Nos dieron las máscaras y fueron pedidos trabajar con ellas. Nuestra ropa es incorrecta, sí, pero intenta no juzgar. No hablamos durante actuación. ¡Nuestro profesor era muy bien-informado, con muchos libros en LeCocq! Verdades, los agentes deben estar en atuendo negro, pero no todos nosotros diario negro del desgaste. Pero la unidad ha terminado. Hemos acabado de aprenderlo...
