  • @marcusantonio91 Its ok I have the disturbing jingle as my text alert as well...it annoys the hell out of everyone though!

  • At long last, we know what to do when a Price is Right contestant dies in your house during a nuclear attack.

  • Listen to your radio... If there are any left

  • If somebody close by died, surely you would have been effected by whatever caused it as well? I'm gonna bag up the charred remains of my dad whilst impaired by having one arm, broken legs and third degree burns.

  • @55DJL - In a SHTF situation, there will be lots of casualties, not all a direct cause of the situation. Those who need refrigerated medications will be affected, many may simply keel over from things like heart attacks (especially in today's generations) and general disease will kill a lot of people who are not safe with how they procure food and water. Those in the elements who are weak from previous issues may also die. Just something to think about. :)

  • the sadness of my life is that I have the ending jingle as my text alert sound

  • It's just ... terrifying to think that this is the reality that people in the Cold War lived with, fully believing that at any moment they would have to do this. This matter-of-fact tone when describing putting the bodies of loved ones in another room .... People think of those times as so innocent, but, seriously, just look at these. This is the opposite of innocent. This is terrifying.

  • If it is safe to go outside? What is this "if"??

  • 'If anyone dies', lol. Thermo-nuclear war kids, everybody dies.

  • Before you bury the body, loot that shit for Caps...

  • @MrDevilzman666 YES! I was worried no one would make a Fallout reference. You have restored my faith in humanity

  • I would just throw the bodies out the door. ;S

  • Scary stuff.

  • When disposing of bodies remember too. . .

    LOOK AROUND YOU

  • Aw Aw Aaaw, Let's go! When two tribes go to war a point is all that you can scooore!

    Sorry but I couldn't resist...

  • AYE AYE Captain Star!!

  • I love these - they give hilariously bad advice! There's a display of them all in the Imperial War Museum in London, and as I watched them all, hardly keeping in my laughter I got more than a few strange looks...

  • so what do i do if the body's been there for more than five days and its not safe to go outside? fucking hell they leave a lot of info out.

  • @georgemetric After a nuclear attack, I honestly don't think you'd be worried about the info they're leaving out. Those chunks of lung you've been coughing up, on the other hand...

  • That's the great thing about Brits. If someone gets killed by a nuclear bomb, they don't worry about it. They should calmly and stoically remove the corpse, dig a trench, and bury it. It's all very polite and civilised....and now...."The Archers"....

  • Well, that's horribly depressing.

  • WHAT TO DO IF AN ALIEN APPEARS!

  • Yes!! You should go dig in the dirt after 5 days of fallout. Brilliant.

  • the radio sounds like god in this series...

  • I'm a 'charlie sheep too'. He gets off on telling us what to do!!!....,,, the bastard.

  • Hey! Guys! Watch "Threads"

It will shit you up something good! I HAVEN'T SLEPT FOR 4 DAYS!

  • @Kevster1993 I watched that the other day, really depressing and quite scary

  • @Kevster1993 Some of us watched Threads in the 80s instead of these films... dunno if it was a good or bad thing, at least none of us expected to survive! even if we couldn't sleep.

  • @Karibanu In the States we had "The Day After," which was plenty terrifying, but then I saw "Threads" on youtube and didn't sleep for a week. "Threads" for some reason seemed much more real to me and therefore more horrifying.

  • and my ax

  • ...and me!

  • "If anyone becomes mutated and grows wings whilst in the shelter, then consider this AWESOME!"

  • Brooker sent me here.

  • @NC891 me too

  • Comment removed

  • @jamie0603 me three

  • That old school Bedford ambulance at 0:14 has no windscreen... brave but ultimately foolish.

  • @MissLeah97 twat

  • and just who is going to come round and take the dead body away i wonder?

live people should be in short supply after an attack

  • @grahamkeithtodd Surely they'd dispatch a bunch of miltary guys armed to the teeth to take out any infected survivors, that's what I heard anyway.

  • @richievegas01 not quite old son,the standing thinking(if you could call it that) was to seal off all major centers of population with a ring of troops around it and let no one in or out!

basically you where on your own

  • @richievegas01 oh yeah, troops are immune to radiation you twat.

  • @tinytina789 Well, if they waited two weeks or so until the radiation had gone down to an acceptable level and went out fully kitted up in radiation suits they would be OK shouldn't they? Fuckwit.

  • @richievegas01 twat

  • @tinytina789 Much obliged, that means they would, cheers!

  • @richievegas01. Get a room youse two's.

  • Well that was frigging depressing.

  • how macabre

  • Presumably they had pre-recorded broadcasts to go out in the event of a nuclear attack. Now those would be interesting to hear!

  • wow - that music at the end is just creeping me out!

as if those disturbing messages weren't enough already...

that music would have given me the shivers and frightened me to death, if i would have somehow managed to survive a nuclear attack!

these P&S spots are just so_damn_creepy! i wonder how our german commercials would have been.... IF there were any similar commercials on german TV for the german audience

  • @m0rbusPolytox oddly enough there are such "advice" adverts to be shown on german television in the event of WW3

and they say the same things...stay where you are and die

  • @grahamkeithtodd

where do you get your information from? it's not true - there surely aren't any adds like these on German TV!

  • @m0rbusPolytox sadly there ARE such adverts like these stored in the archives at ARD.ZDF,WDF and other german television and radio stations ready for use in the event of say World War 3

it's just stuff that is not wildly talked about old son....

  • @JohnXSmullen Reminds me a bit of Portal

  • @ 0:53 Disregard this information if you failed to follow the instructions in the Protect and Survive Food Consumption video. Bust out the BBQ sauce because its cannibal time.

  • "If anyone dies while you are kept in your fall-out room, this shows you will soon be next to die, so move yourself into another room in the house and wrap yourself tightly in polythene. paper, sheets or blankets."

  • "If anyone does if kept in your fall-out room, move the body into another room in the house"

He says it like he's not even arsed that some kid could be dragging his burnt and irradiated mothers' corpse into the kitchen. How fucking grim.

  • Listen to the radio!!! Listen to the radio!!! Well guess what the broadcasting centers would have been destroyed... So let's listen to the radio and dance to the static.

  • They tell you this like it's all ok! :)

The illusion of safety and order.

  • They tell you this like it's all ok! :) You know why, to stay calm, controllable. You know, like sheeps! The point is, they don't wan't you to realize what's going on, that everything is over, your life is over. They wan't you to do what they tell you..They wan't you to think that's everything is in order and everything is going to happen as it supposed to! "The Label the dead bodys with name and adress... :D:D "This must be an emergency" Sorry i'm just pissing myself.

  • I'm planning on sampling this audio in one of my songs.

I'm hoping to capture the dark and eerie mood of the loss of compassion for the dead and warnings then sample in the War Sirens.

If you have any tips of making music, drop by my channel and comment, because I am very amateur.

  • @RageTekkMusic I ripped the end sound effect and used it for my ringtone. The easiest way is probably to use some YouTube rip software or a website like mediaconvertor then edit it with your favorite audio editing software. I used Audacity its free and very simple to use.

  • sh****** hell is this a vison of the past or the future?

  • why does the name and address need to be put on the body? just is case it gets lost and they need to return it-lol?

seriously, was this so that the authorities could keep casualty lists? ( assuming that the authorities were still around, that is)

  • @hplexmark1 Ya know this old elvissong: Return toooo sender, no name, no adress, return toooooo sender. "Hey Mom, look, Granmas back. Gues you buy not enough marks to send here to hell'".

  • While your digging a trench for your dead Family member, why not dig one for yourself, it will save someone else a job

  • @brwhizz i wouldnt necessarily say socialist. Perhaps just terminally stiff-upper-lipped. Staying calm in a crisis was still very much a part of our national identity back in the 70s, far more so than it is now.

  • @brwhizz

No, they are clinical because it's intended to save your life, not give you a nice warm fuzzy feeling inside.

  • My placebo would be vodka

  • just a reminder that baby boomers didnt have a life of nothing but peaches and cream

it could have turned to this at any time, 1952-1988

    with about 45rminutes notice

    if you were lucky

  • the voice of a british legend, i just keep thinking blackadder when i watch these

  • How are they socialist?

  • Don't tell Maggie Thatcher that! lol :)

  • How macabre and scary are these PSAs. I use the ending sound as a email alert on my Iphone and one of my co-workers nearly jumped out of their seat after hearing it. Its a very unsettling sound.

Don't move the body outside just yet. If you didn't watch the Food Consumption you may have not stored enough food. Its Cannibal time..

  • I have two questions, but don't call me retarded. 1. What do casualties mean? and 2. Did the alert system actually been activated in Britain? Thanks!

  • Damn that would be horrible. Its amazing how dull he describes moving a dead love one.

  • At's bloody dreadful, Gov'nor! Oh behaaave!

  • its just reassuring bullshit to keep the masses from panicking. Like a nation wide placebo lol

  • There's nothing reassuring about that, are you completely retarded?

  • I have the end noise sequence as my ringtone, it's amazing that people still look around terrified if it rings in the pub. It must still burned on our memory from watching Threads at school in the 80s !

  • Where did you get that ringtone from???

  • me too - well I have it as my text alert. I have a home made Frankie Goes To Hollywood vs Protect & Survive as my ringtone :D

  • @jasonpaulbradley i watched that, they showed threads in school?!

  • @jasonpaulbradley

I just now set that shit to my ringtone as well, bro. Ripped the audio to MP3, edited out all the rest with a program and vuala

  • @jasonpaulbradley Haha, I thought I was the only one! That really is a terrifying little tune for some reason.

  • @jasonpaulbradley WHERE CAN I GET THIS RINGTONE? I LIVE IN CANADA. I MUST HAVE IT

  • @jasonpaulbradley Where d'ya get the ringtone? I WANT it!!!

  • @jasonpaulbradley Man, I want to do that, but I think it would go over everyone's head. Stupid Canada.

  • @jasonpaulbradley I reckon youre right..... What a sinister noise that is at the end. Cool ringtone though, just about as retro as it gets.

I still cant believe some of this stuff was shown to us in school at the time. I can remember playground talk also ,the day after 'Threads' was broadcast.

  • @taxi2y28 where do you get the ringtone???

  • @jasonpaulbradley did you get that sound from a website, or did you pull it yourself?

  • @jasonpaulbradley

Jason, yes, scares the bloody pants of everyone who grew up during the Cold War in the UK.

  • how disturbing

  • Covering a corpse with plastic warp...pleasant viewing experiences we'd have here eh?

    What rubbish

  • yes my wife died from "fall out"

  • that's really creepy. I'm SO glad we never did have a nuclear war.

  • dont give year hopes up yet

  • Yet.

  • They wanted people to stay in their own homes to maximise the death rate, both from the blast and the fallout and disease afterwards. People would have been prevented from leaving the immediate areas to ensure that whoever did survive would be the strongest and fittest of the population thus needing as little medical treatment and resources spent on them as possible.

  • Don't worry about this one, FEMA has those plastic coffins big enough for the whole family.

  • lol!

  • Is the electronic bit at the end Throbbing Gristle or something?

  • was there a need of tht scary noise at the end? (with the protect & survive logo)

  • there will be no radio 2 inform u of anything lol AND NO ONE WILL BE COMING TO HELP YOU!!! lol

  • Put some Freshbin in the body to stop it smelling and then that bloke comes along and says WE HAVE AN S-T-I-N-K in the B-I-N!

  • you could even eat the body if you run out of food. and use the bones to make tools to help remake civilization

  • I think it is plastic wrap

  • But how do I know if it's polythene or polyethylene or some other petroleum-based polymer? P&S specifically states "polythene." Can I wrap up my family's corpses in the same transparent plastic wrap that you put over a bowl of Jello salad? Saran Wrap would definitely give you a bird's eye view of the decaying process (until it was safe to go outside and bury the bodies in a trench).

  • Polythene is another name for polyethylene smart arse. It's a shortened down kind of brand name created by ICI (the people that first put it to commercial use)

  • I had my issues with the movie "Threads"(1984)

That being said, I was pleased with how they portrayed these official instructions to be so fruitless.

  • yeah, like i'm going to leave a dead body in my house for 5 days. has the person who made these things smelt a body after like.. 3 days..it's revolting..

  • True enough, but if the fallout is "hot" enough, then leaving the shelter will get you all gross & corpsified as well. This would especially be a problem if you didn't have a survey meter or at least a dosimeter to measure just how bad the radiation is, and thus have no idea how long you could safely be outside to dig a shallow grave for the deceased.

  • now thats somthing i whould never have thought of "move the body" what am i going to do let is smell out my shelter which has no protection what so ever.

  • 'Oh look, dad just died. Has anyone got a bin liner, a spare label and a pen?'

  • @brwhizz This one has to be the hands down the winner of the best comment for this vid.

  • It's incredible just how flawed this series of videos were. It's just as well they were never needed to be broadcast

  • Is there any particular order to these PSAs? I assume they would have been broadcast and rebroadcast according to some kind of playlist. Thanks for your hard work!

  • Some do go before others but I am not sure if there was a definitive playing order.

  • @Pandemian on the wiki page for protect and survive - the episode list is at the bottom of the page from 1 to 20.

  • @brucearmstrong1

you can search wikipedia, just write "protect and survive" there is a possible order

  • ...Too reassuring..."If someone dies while you are in your fallout shelter, move the body to another room in the house" I doubt we would be that civil...watching our loved ones die so painfully...

  • The worst one and no comments... Thanks for these man.

  • Agreed bud! The whole series is flawed, thank-god the government never broadcast them!
