I think that the show handled LoVe pretty well, but I do agree that stories about women falling in love with men who verbally abuse them are extremely problematic. It is for this reason that I am not a LoVe shipper, though I do love both characters and I wish they would had worked out their problems in Season 3 and grown as characters rather than breaking up again and again. (And I really don't remember Veronica and Logan rubbing anything in Duncan's face. Sorry, but that just didn't happen.)

Logan and Veronica were not a couple during "An Echolls Family Christmas," and did not even have their first kiss until eight or nine episodes later, so there was nothing for them to rub in Duncan's face at that time. The episode where Logan beats up the detective is much later in the season then the Christmas episode, as any episode guide or fan will back me up. You may be thinking of when they walked into Logan's surprise birthday party in "A Trip to The Dentist." Which wasn't "rubbing it in," because again, it was a SURPRISE party and they were mortified to see Duncan there.

And that's all I'm gonna say on the matter.

OK, I have some more.

Duncan left immediately after he saw them together, so no, they did not even have time to rub it in. "Holding each others' hands" is not that shocking anyway. And Veronica's relationship with Leo was very casual. She shouldn't have kissed Logan, but it happens, with both men and women. And she immediately confessed to Leo and told him she shouldn't be with him anymore, in order to protect him. So no, I would not call Veronica a bitch. (And most of the writers were men.)

Rob Thomas made the VM: FBI (the first episode of season 4) pilot to try to convince the CW to take the chance on another season. Sadly, they didn't go for it. I believe DC Comics and Rob Thomas are in talks about a comic version of Veronica Mars, though. Hope that helps.  :-)
