I swear man, you always have the best vids! We've got a CSX line that runs right behind my job and I'll usually go out there and watch as they pass by. Every now and again, they'll stop. That's my chance to talk to the engineers a bit, but I was never invited inside the cab!
That's the system alerter. It's telling anyone that might have their hands/arms/etc. in a compromising position in the engine compartment, radiator fan shroud, etc. to remove them before the engine cranks. x3
Either close the battery knife switch (located inside the cab, on the back wall, used when cold starting) or turn the start switch to 'prime' (located inside the engine compartment, on the right side).
CSX employees down here are friendly arnt they lol i wish i had my camera with the conrail dash 8 but i got a video of a gp15 back where i used to live and an amtrak and some c40-8's in taft posted
That's a rush, isn't it? I remember back in the early 90s, I used to railfan the SP around Mesa, AZ and at the time my favorite locomotive type was (and really still is) a GP60. I got a few cab rides aboard GP40-2s, but I will never forget the time the engineer turned the control stand on that GP60 (SP 9721) over to me for 15 minutes in 1992 ...
I was sitting in front of 2475 and 8641 waiting for the crew to come start her (2475) up, and they asked me what I was doing there. When I told them, I was invited into the cab. =D
I love it when you say.......Oh..man.....that says it all.

Indeed...was the first time I ever heard my favorite engine type that up close and personal...the EMD 16-645F3B. I was ecstatic. :D

So are you going to become a train driver now.....or are you going to stay a railfan?

I would like to be an engineer for a shortline or museum/tourist operation, but I won't work for a Class I railroad. :3

@SpeakerPolice So what did the engineer do to set it off exactly?

I need a 645F outside my bedroom door. So I could listen to it idle before going to bed. It's a perfect lullaby. :3
And its even prettier revving up to the second notch, flexing its muscles a little.

I totally agree, one of the best-sounding EMD engines. 8D
SpeakerPolice 1 year ago
@SpeakerPolice yeah, either that, or the 567d3a ... but i think this 645f would make a nicer lullaby.
heck, all emd's sound amazing!

I had a cabride in a C40-8W last year, but due to some controversy over this type of video, I have refrained from posting it. D8

The engineer doesn't sound like he's having much fun, but the video and sound are great!

Yeah, I actually shut off the camera before he called the SD50 an SOB for automatically lowering the prime mover RPMs...XD
