As best I can research, the film was likely shot at Magnolia Gardens in Houston, Texas on August 7, 1955. It has to be July 1955 or later, because Scotty Moore did not have that guitar prior to July, 1955. It's obviously in a warm weather area and outdoors.
I have other still pictures of Magnolia Gardens that look much like this, so Houston is likely. He played Houston many times in 1954-55, including August 7, 1955.
He would be on national television 5 months later.
@wayneypayney Buddy Holly filmed this himself on April 29th 1955 (Friday - 8.00pm) at the Cotton Club, Lubbock, Texas and said the song was Tweedle Dee. His widow said that buddy had said it was Tweedle Dee after buddy holly died. Hope that helps
I doubt it was the "Whoppee Cushion Serenade". It wasn't well known until '58 when Freddie Flatulence & His Five Hot Toots hit the charts with there version. It was a gas! In the words of the immortal Bard, "Hey dude...who cut da cheese?"
"Crazy Man Crazy" recorded in 1953 by Bill Haley is the first recognized rockabilly track on Billboard. "Shake, Rattle and Roll" recorded in 1954 by Bill Haley is the first international rock and roll hit. Long Live Rock-a-Bill.

This isn't the first video, the first is the Buddy Holly footage. If you look Scotty Moore is playing his L-5 Gibson, he traded the ES-295 he is playing in the Buddy Holly film for it, an later this one for a Super 400. Still amazing piece of footage.
I first met Elvis in a church in San Angelo Texas 1953... sandy blonde hair and a pure voice... it was recorded on a bell and howell 35mm camera, probaly the first time ever.... the church had the film, who knows if it still exisrs?

Star Productions have sync'd him singing I'm left You're Right She's Gone and they are the best in the DVD import business. Although officially this film is dated as August 1955 Elvis does look younger but perhaps the short sleeves represent a warmer time of the year.i.e Summer.

yeah doesnt sound like Elvis. This video is very suspect. It has to be fake. I know there are a lot of fake videos concerning early performances by Europeans. They are trying to give themselves credability and posting hoax videos with fake dates.
I am not interested in what other ppl are saying. They get their knowledge from questionable sources.Just at with the media in general, not much can be taken for truth on youtube. There is alot of staged media events going on right now and there are alot of dubious video postings.Especially ones with Elvis. The story of Elvis Presley is quickly becoming extremely distorted.
@lorenzostaunovo Europeans are not stupid. The EU exists of 27 countries with all there own cultuur. The U.S.A got smart people but also alot stupid people. Don't say stupid things if you dont know alot about Europe.
YES, this is Elvis Presley in his early before fame days. It is probably an early Sun records tour. This was taken with a home movie camera, and has been verified to be Elvis, and the other musicians have also been identified. Yes they did have color home movie film then because I have some taken of me as a kid. Buddy Holly went from country to rock after seeing Elvis perform on one of these early tours in Lubbock, TX, and Buddy & Bob where Elvis's opening act once.
Elvis became nationally famous in 1956 through TV performances before he went to Hollywood to do his first movie, and could not go anywhere alone without causing a fan stampede. Even in the before fame days Elvis had his clothes ripped off by crazed girls--no wonder he was getting 2 or 3 girls a night to his room even then! Maxine Brown, who's sister Bonnie had an affair with Elvis, and they toured with him said he didn't drink, smoke, or do drugs then--"All he did was screw the women!"

In this day and age and all of the technology at our finger tips people are still so ignorant that they don't understand any history AT ALL. Get a grip ignorant Americans.
Well said, I remember the History Channel showing World War II films in color. And wasn't the Wizard of Oz shot in the 30's? Color was like the high def of the day. Not everybody switched over immediately.
You say Jonas Brothers-I say Led Zeppelin You say Soulja Boy-I say Deep Purple You say Miley Cyrus-I say Queen You say T-Pain-I say Jimi Hendrix You say Flowers-I say Cream You say Pink-I say Dire Straits You say Reggeaton- I say AC/DC You say Lady GaGa- I say Metallica You say Pop-I say ROCK!!!!!!!! 92% of teenagers have turned to Hip Hop and Pop. DON'T LET THE SPIRIT OF ROCK DIE!!! copy and paste if this is true !
This is THE REAL deal. The original of this film was shot by a couple that sold the film at auction a few years back for over 100K. The guitar Elvis is playing is his Martin D-28 It is either a '54 or a '55 model D-28. Great stuff.
This is an authentic color movie taken with an 8mm home movie camera in 1955. My son was born that year, and the movie camera I bought in April, 1956, was an 8mm silent color movie camera. Home movies were no longer made in black & white (if you were buying a NEW camera back then). Of course, the music is dubbed in to make it "more interesting" for today's audiences.
He was some kind of cult figure at the time, but he was growing in popularity everyday. At the end of 1955 he had placed a song on the no.1 position on the c&w charts exclusively. He was at Sun Records at the time. Then the colonel came along and lured him away and sold him to RCA. About a half year later, 'Heartbreak Hotel' became his first no.1 on the pop charts.
That goes to show the colonel didn't create Elvis, he actually destroyed him.Elvis was growing big before he came along, the col. only EXPLOITED him and others took it from there. Elvis respected the Colonel but he abused Elvis civility and trust, that just goes to show you don't trust older men. Especially an illumanitus and a bloody one too.
"Elvis was growing big before he came along." He had his first national hit on any chart (C&W) in July 1955, and that was the month Parker began negotiating to get him on national TV. He had his first pop hit on the label Parker switched him to, and it was a #1 pop hit. Parker helped him succeed, and then sold him out later.
The colonel only exploited Elvis talent..at traped in him deals he was obligated to!! Elvis mother knew this in advanced and never trust the colonel..but in my opinion the colonel got rid of her in his very own special way!!
I'm working on a documentary series and I'm trying to source Elvis footage that belongs to individuals not corporations. Do you own this footage? If so, please get in touch with me.
its not a fake , im just wondering how they got a color camera , when other footage of him (with his hair died black or when he went into the army) is still in black and white while this one is in color.
That'll be the Martin acoustic he bought with the royalties from "That's All Right" - and then he went and stuck it in that leather cover meaning the top couldn't vibrate which dampened the sound right down! Some people like to say Elvis couldn't play guitar, but he was a rhythm player in a 3-piece and did a good job.
Great video, I've never seen this before! It was 55 and rolled short sleeved shirts were cool man. He looked great! I wish there was sound. Purrrr......
