  • Darlene Conley (July 18, 1934 January 14, 2007) was an American actress.

Conley's career spanned fifty years, but she was best known for her performances in daytime television, and in particular, for her portrayal of larger-than-life fashion industrialist Sally Spectra on The Bold and the Beautiful. Conley played the Emmy Award-nominated role from 1988 until her death nineteen years later Irish American, Awe your opening in Britain have no flair, it's okay-better substance

  • The US openings are much better than the British ones! And I'm English!!! We are really crap at openings!!!! The Americans can teach us a thing or two about it.

  • USA soaps have better openings.

  • CBS, baby! The #1 Daytime Network. Especially, The Bold And The Beautiful and As The World Turns.

  • Yes!!!

  • On CBS the long running soap from the earliest is GL, then ATWT, Y&R, and B&B.

  • Location does take prevelence in the uk rather than characters but I like the use of decorative computer graphics and fashionable pizazz that the US soaps use.

  • Looking at the titles from both coutires' soaps and there's a realization that the setting takes prevalence in the UK soaps, whereas the characters take prevalence in the US soaps.

  • That is an excellent revelation scifiradioguy! I couldn't have said it any better!

  • welkom27pg - maybe american soaps is much popular but i live in Poland and most of the people who live here thinks - The bold and the beautiful is the longest series on the world ! Shame ! I'm smart and i know...longest series on the world is Guiding Light ! The bold and the beautiful is not very long...but is long for people who live in Poland. Our longest soap is "Klan" and is for Polish tv only 10 years! And only have 1300 episodes(aprox).

  • US soap Bold and Beautiful has a fantastic opening its so catchy and fab but I love the Brookside opening best!

  • American soaps have a better openings for a Britains. Sorry for my english. I'm not American or British man :P

  • British soaps may be better played but the storylines are YAWN-tastic... except for Brookside which was always very over the top... BUT I will say that the British soaps ARE decidedly better than the Australian soaps!

I am always amazed that British TV doesn't have more camp in their soaps, especially since the UK has brought the world some of the best in sitcoms. If "Passions" was done over the UK you can bet it would be a cult classic all around the world!

  • USA soaps are much better and far mor popular all over the world, in Amerika they have the best players writers and producers And I'm from Holland so is not that I just say it because I'm an Amerikan USA soaps rules!!!

  • Ooh hahaha:P! And do you have As The World Turns in Poland, I mean you know much about soaps !!! You can put the Polisch B&B opening on youtube If you want!!! I want to see it. But As the World Turns is the second longest running soap and here in The Netherlands it's a famous soap just as B&B.

  • I give you link for Polish opening :-) Oh... we have a guy who talk for Polish, what talks actors for BB. You know :-)... and i love ironic in his voice ! In Poland, number of episodes is...say. I remember his ironic :P The bold and the beautiful.... episode 3000 :-) In Poland much people (young) hate "Klan" or BB, because this shows is neverending. Most young people say : BB watch only old people :/

  • USA soaps are better.

  • No way man.

They are so cheesey and unrealistic

  • o yey british soaps are better that USA. Well Eastenders is anyway

  • I've always loved the Eastenders opening theme! Coronation Street also emphasises the environment in which the characters live rather than the cast of the show. On the other side of the ocean, As the World Turns looks like a toothpaste commercial and B&B appears to be trying to sell some sort of hair product (they even to make the ugly ones look glamorous--eeekk!).

  • I agree with marcarnau that the eighties/nineties intro of the B&B was better, but the same goes for ATWT. I was shocked when this one first appeared: it didn't even have a real earth in it anymore! CS seems charming, never seen it.

  • I think the English soaps are more realistic to life, with characters driven by personality and individuality. American soaps are more about storyline, and events.

And what do I prefer? Well, I watch both ;)

  • Nice theme!

  • why do people hate the ATWT theme so? I like the music and the graphics.

  • Agree. Nice theme and graphics.

  • B&B and ATWT are MUCH better. I love seeing the characters head shots.

  • Personally, I love the vibrance of the B&B and ATWT opening themes. CS was depressing, while at least Eastenders had an uplifting theme. Most American daytime soaps actually didn't have the images of the characters for years, and only two continue with images of the fictional town it is set in (Passions) and an hourglass against the backdrop of the sky (Days of Our Lives).

  • lol at the dreary Corrie opening. That music hasnt changed in years.

  • I have to vote for "Eastenders." It's a lot more subtle. A trait unheard of in US soaps.

  • ME TOO.

  • I rather the "eastenders" opening theme. Is simple and really caractheristic. "The bold and the beautiful" intro was much better in the eighties or nineties, just with the music and great pictures of the actors, this new intro is very similar to the terrible intro of As the Word Turns.

  • American Soap Operas for the most part push forward the characters in your face. It's the same reason why there are so many close-ups in American soaps versus English soaps which are considerably more theatrical and well played.
