  • Love the way Lennon plays piano. Sustain pedal down all the time. Let all the notes just ring on and on. This is a great rendition of the Everly Brothers great hit.

  • it's a cover from "cathy's clown - Everly Brothers"

  • John's voice is like a higher state of consciousness. gets me high just listening to it

  • The first was FAKE. The second bit was real.

  • @andreasegde agreed

  • @no1cfielder First was real lol . . gotta love lennons voice. It was from his lost tapes

  • The version on the second part of this was performed in the Get Back Sessions,in Jan.1969. The first part sounds like the Lennon home demo, that has had a reverb added to it. The Lennon home demo was broadcast on the Lost Lennon Tapes Radio Series in the late 80s and the early 90s.

  • This has got to be one of those fake Beatles sound-alike records. I wish people would quit sullying their music and get a life.

  • everly brothers did it first and did it best, i love the beatles but this is bad

  • Anyone know what's played from about the 1:40 mark on? The lyrics go something like "where you been, I was down and I was needing you." Not sure if the lines correspond with another song or were just adlibbed

  • @jhwendland It's called Where Have You Been and the version I know is by The Searchers, which I like it.

  • @Elvisboy1977 Wow, that's impressive

    Thanks

  • Hey I don't know if the original version of this exact same recording exists with a "drier" sound, meaning no reverb. I do know that you can, and many people do, add reverb before they post something to youtube, either to try and make it sound like a differnt take, or make themselves feel important. Yes, this can easily be done digitally. I don't think fantasyNow was claiming this was done back in 1969, but that he thinks reverb was added to this particular youtube posting. Cheers

  • Yes, that reverb is way too much. This one is better: "John Lennon Cathy's Clown unreleased

  • Every Beatles' song NEEDS to be released to us all!

  • Isn't it here HE comes .......?

  • A good warm-up bit with John searching for the proper sound. Ironic as the original Phil & Don track had virtually all the ingredients for what would become the "Please Plese Me" sound. I don't think it's an edit. Not certain either. Just as well someone else could claim it's early Led Zappelin.

It would have been facinating had The Beatles took a serious stab at other Motown acts, 4Tops, Temptin' Temtations, Stevie Wonder, and for continuing the girl groups facination, Martha & The Vandellas,

  • That could've been the next Strawberry Fields judging by the emotion in the demo, but wtf is going on afterward with Paul and Ringo making it sound like some clunking, sad ballad. They didn't pick up the vibe.

  • Why did take so long for shining star to gift this beauty to me? No complaints just o-glad-u-found me...

  • yeah, that' lennon--and a wonderful everly bros song.

  • This is definetly John. Wonderful song by the Everylys though!

  • this=lennon

  • This could very well be Lennon, the Beatles regularly played other peoples songs to warm up....regardless, I think this version has an eerie but great sound, too bad it wasn't finished and released.

  • loving this find!!! you've just made my day matey-o! thanks!!

  • Nice take on the song

  • This is lennon solo

  • FAKE. Can't be Let it Be, recorded too well. FAKE as can be, edited onto Let It Be Outtake, which is not Cathy's Clown.

  • FAKE. Can't be Let it Be, recorded too well. FAKE as can be

  • @duilawyr Your ears are shit. It's real, it's just had reverb added to it.

  • Debra, I loved you so much. But, you hurt me so much.

  • Are you guys deaf or something

  • That's not John Lennon. The end.

  • @zo219 Yes, it is John Lennon. Don't you remember what a big Everly Brothers fan he was? It is his tone and it is phrasing and it is his piano style. Listen again. Peace...

  • definitely John Lennon treasure

  • haven't read all lines down here, but the second half definetely sounds more "beatle-ish' than the first!

  • It's obviously the lads in the second part. Let It Be sessions. The first part sounds like a John Lennon demo in the mid 70's. "Rock N' Roll" album or "Let It Be"? But I'll guess it was John screwing around at home circa 1968.

  • garbage

  • definitely not george. there is not a hint of carl perkins in this crappy shit

  • im sorry yall might like this but i like the everly brothers better nd no im not saying this one sucks just not my taste so dont judge

  • Lennon once said that the particularly liked the melody of "Cathy's Clown." It was a favorite of sorts. I agree with him. It's an excellent song.

  • Who added all of the digital reverb?

  • @FantasyNow seriously doubt it was digital my friend

  • @mjw9363 Naw its digital dewd, they only had spring and plate reverbs to work with back then and they cant get those several seconds long sustained clear frequencies. Not that its a bad, or any of the Beatles did it. Im saying someone at some point treated the tracks with digital reverb. Like when you digitally remaster older recordings...

  • @FantasyNow do you know what digital is!??? it's 1's and 0's using binary code....DID NOT exist then...NO ONE added shit to that later Dude..I can show a thousands songs with just as much reverb even from the 50's....deal with the fact you were wrong, and move on

  • on the music supposedly beatles part---even goofing off any of the beatles are 100x better

  • I want an Anthology 4.

  • @TheFpuff

    You said it...perfectly!!!!

  • This is for sure the Beatles. Just goofing off, which they did a lot. Anyone who doubts this being John Lennon is an idiot. To the guy that called the Beatles stupid--what a dumb remark. The Beatles influenced everyone--even you. You're just too stupid to know it.

  • Going to have to fix this

  • Lovely. I know that piano... and that voice anywhere. then we're off to the Let It Be sessions! Too cool!

  • Fuck jankbass. This is the kind of shit you roll a fat one to and listen to for 3 hours on repeat.

  • looks like scam

    it's not Lennon's voice

and it is not George's guitar - he would never have played such out of tune notes even at rehearsals - and not his style and sound

  • this is lennon playing in his apartment studio at the dakota. it was played on the "lost lennon tapes"radio show, hosted by elliot mintz, in the early 1990's.

  • I like how this has become my favorite beatles song.

  • Yes, this is John in the 70's. He was working on his own songs, then sort of naturally drifted into Cathy's Clown for no real reason. He'd be quite amused that people are on here arguing about this and judging it, as it was never meant for anyone to hear but him. It would be like you recording a voice reminder into your phone and other people grabbing it and tearing it apart and analyzing it and you.

And yes, for those of you who don't know much about music, this is beautiful.

  • @ jankbass and JohnyBleed I saw your argument and did some research. It is indeed John Lennon, I don't know if the rest of the Beatles took part in it but the end sounds like them. jankbass, don't start an argument unless you know what your talking about! Do your homework

P.S. JohnyBleed, you should try to get a better sound quality, I found tons of other videos of this song that have much clearer sound quality, otherwise great video :)

  • Clearly this is John and the Beatles, who is the A-hole who thinks different?

  • its funny cause is this actually John

  • This is really terrible & I am a huge Beatles' fan...

  • @artiep24 It is just the Beatles goofing! I like these rough things mucho. And, it is the Beatles to those who state otherwise here.

  • Can somebody tell me where this songs appeared? I've never heard about them

  • why would someone who's been listening to the Beatles since before we were born not recognize John's voice..jankbass needs to yank his bass some more..

  • Doesn't it sounds like 'Where Have You Been All My Life', from like 1:15?

I think John's singing 'Where've You Been All My Life', and Paul's singing 'Cathy's Clown'...

  • this is obviously the beatles. you guys are stupid

  • Of course it's the Beatles!!! Who else would it be? They did all sorts of these little impromptu things during album sessions, notably during the filming of Let It Be because EVERYTHING they did was recorded on film and tape.

  • people, cmon!!! just listen to the talkin at the end!! its george and paul obvious! ifyou all claim to be such beatles fans!! they did SO many small recordings like this, just because its not professional sounding, doesnt mean its not them! why be so aggressive in saying its not anyway! just change the track!!!

  • well the Beatles were a bit before my time just like a few of the other great bands thank God for recording studios :)

  • That's not the Beatles. I grew up with their Music. Bullshit scam. Not even close.

  • leave it to the stupid Beatles to butcher a wonderful song. i really dont see how they got SO popular.

  • @omarskats3000 Ok, yeah, I think this was just like a jam. It was NOT released, so this is not "butchered" anything. As for how they got so popular? Because they were amazing, brilliant, flawless, better than your faves and very likely your faves's faves. Let's be real.

  • Soounds like more Paul to me, but still love The Beatles rendition of it.

  • Sounds like John, especially the piano playing.

  • oh my god some one sounds like they are stoned..I dont care if its the beatles it sounds awful. No one does it like the Everly Brothers. not even the beatles who Could not sing Everything. I mean they were good but were not the best singers ever. The Everlys had sweeter harmony

  • Oh, he uses to much pedal or delay.

  • i doubt we will ever know how many songs the beatles practiced but never released, off the top of my head i can think of commonwealth & all things must pass (which eventually became a george harrison solo tune). those were from the get back or let it be jams...i don't doubt that this is the beatles

  • listening to famous bands rehearsing is always a great encouragement for people who just started to sing and play

  • of course it's john. From Let it be (Get back sessions) There were lots of every refernces throughout the takes, (Thanks don during Two of us?)

But why be so aggressive about this? No reason to be angry at this or about this. Just lughten up.

  • iv been a life long beatles fan and i myself do believe this is the beatles . this is not the first time iv heard it and theres also a john solo of this.

  • 1983 (A merman i should turn to be)

  • I think it is the Beatles.

  • The John only version was better and done more seriously but has to be reprocessed to remove the hiss and decrease the volume of the piano. I do believe that it was The Beatles on the second half. I could distinguish John, Paul and George's voices plus Ringo's characteristic drum fills and sound, it was them but they were probably stoned and fooling at that time like what we hear them on a lot of leaked recordings around the Let it Be period. If only it was better, I would listen for hours.

  • what a load of shite doesn't sound like any of them !!!

  • This is definately Lennon.

  • THANKS FOR SHARING

  • DEFINITELY John for the first part and then the rest of the band, separate recordings. Great clip!

  • where have you been all my life was on gerry and the pacemakers album how do you like it the song was a big fave of the mersey bands at the time

  • I've loved this song for a long time, and I really want to know what year it's from. Can someone tell me?

  • @jankbass What's your agenda? You've commented on every video of JOHN LENNON playing Cathy's Clown. The clip beginning at 1:15 was recorded during the Get Back Sessions. It appears on multiple bootlegs chronicling those 30 days.

  • @jankbass

    First off..

This IS John Lennon till 1:15 then it's The Beatles from then on.

Second.... I wish I could sing like John Lennon but no this is not me singing...(no guitar just piano)

Third... If you believe this is not John Lennon then your the fool!

    Do your homework!

  • @jankbass

OK.... I promise this is John! If you want to be an A-hole about it your are entitled to your opinion but you must be going death or dementia is setting in. This is a well documented demo that has been released on various bootlegs like "The Lost Tapes" and others... I respect the fact that you've been listening to The Beatles longer then I've been alive but on this one your wrong.

I'd be happy to give you some of the demos from around the time John did this one in the 70s.

  • @JohnyBleed i would love the demos if ya can send them or upload them ?

  • @JohnyBleed anyperson who knows johns voice would recognize this is john, i could see where some people cant here . kind of like the song dream on by rolling stones doesnt sound like mick jaeger but it is

  • @lukefenderrhodes Never heard of a Rolling Stones song by the title "Dream on"; only familiar with the Areosmith song by that title from their first album.

  • @jankbass obviously not you fuckin imbecile. it seems to be you don't know john lennon's voice

  • @jankbass sounds quite like john

  • @jankbass It's John singing, the intro is a well documented demo (from sometime in the 70s), someone messed around with the sound volume though. The 2nd part when the beatles sing is likely from all those mounds of get back session, undeniably their voices though.

  • @jankbass johny is right man

  • @jankbass you are so retarded you can't even identify their voices 'go listen to lady gaga fool

  • @jankbass John Lennon is singing there. I have lots of bootlegs and I've listened to this before. I think it's from Twickenham or Get back sessions, I'm not sure.

  • @jankbass agreed that was the Everly Brothers

  • I used ot have this song on a gold v/45 by The Everly Brothers. Cannot remember the Record Co. Label though.

  • @macrockettere

The label was Warner Brothers. Still have the single somewhere in a box.

  • great lil song
