At 36 years old i've gone back to school to study radio production and Tom Cheek was a huge reason why. Thanks for posting this...if I ever don't feel like doing my homework I can watch this again and remember why i'm doing this.
A one run lead for Philadelphia as we go to the bottom of the ninth, due up Henderson, White, Molitor, and Carter. Joe has had his moments. Access code search words: the 1000 Such Days Topsites website.

I think it's funny that Cheek's call of Carter's home run is the soundbite that is always referenced, even though most Jay's fans would have been watching the game on television, and wouldn't have heard it.
My favourite call from Tom Cheek is when Ernie Whitt hit a grand slam to put the Blue Jays ahead of the Boston Red Sox 11-10 after the Blue Jays were behind 10-0 at Fenway Park in 1989. It still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
Thanks for the great memories, Tom. Yes, you should be honoured in Cooperstown!
@nf1002 I remember that game like it was yesterday. My dad asked me I want to the mall with him after the first 3 innings, I said no I think the Jays might win this one. He was in shock when he returned and learned the Jays won.
He really was the sound of summer. I live in south florida and i'm going to see the jays play the fish 2moro. I miss Tom. Okay Blue Jays...let's play ball.
This is great, but it should probably be noted that the second photo in the video is of the Royals' legendary broadcaster, Denny Matthews, not the late Mr. Cheek
An epic speech that is the only thing to ever make me really cry. The timing of this speech is gut-wrenching for those who listened to Tom Cheek regularly. The emotion in his voice, completely genuine.
Tom Cheek was not only the voice of summer, he was the voice of the Toronto Blue Jays, rivaling any broadcaster historically.
From Day One, I grew up listening in the States to Tom on CJRN out of Niagara Falls, ON.
What set Tom apart is that he was in the mold of the old style broadcaster who told the story of what was playing out in front of him - he didn't need to become the story.
Of course I remember the playoffs and Series games but one call that stands out to me was in 1989 when Shaker Mo hit a Grand Slam in Oakland on a Saturday night to win $1,000,000 from Miracle Food Mart for some woman in Toronto.
I miss Tom. I'm living down in the states now and I got to watch the Jays put a beating on the Red Soxs today (Grand slam by the Big Hurt and V Dub goes yard for two) but I wish Tom was calling it. 2008, we're comming for the world series.
I agree Tom Cheek should be in MLB HOF broadcasting wing. He so underrated among best baseball broadcasters of all time. Mr. Cheek belongs to be in legends like Scully, Barber, Allen, Gowdy, Harwell and others.
As a teen that visited Toronto in late 1980's and early on summer vaction it cool to listen to this great broadcaster.
That was amazing Spark81 it brought back alot of memories for me especially the audio from 1985 when The Jays won the AL East for the first time. I was thirteen when it happened and I went crazy when George Bell caught the ball.

Tom Cheek and Jerry Howarth are the best announcer combination to do Blue Jays Baseball Games. Tom deserves to be in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
