My god every dressage rider and trainer could stand to take lessons with this man. The horse is effortless and beautiful, what a treat thank you for posting
what a cool demo! This is the magic of the Iberian breeds - ideal conformation for this work. Part of the trick is their tremendous musculature, and in this case, such a wonderfully relaxed and flexible rider, following his horse, rather than shoving him through the ride. Who wouldn't want one of those?
The precision and control both the rider and horse have in making the tight flying leads (the 'dancing'/skipping gait towards the end), with the front at a separate cadence than the rear. This is not just a show horse, this is an ARTIST.
Bellissimo!
This kind of equestrianship sparked my imagination & dreams, as a girl many years ago.
My accomplishments over many years (until a car accident & spinal injury sidelined me, 10 years ago) pale in comparison to what these riders & trainers achieve.
@zzp1 : yes warhorse - in close combat war. not cavalry ( that was with guns - and much later period ) . But for ex. in the 15 th -16.th century wars where they fought with swords in close combat on the battle field. worked in a tight space and needed to be fast and flexible.
the warmblood was invented for the later period cavalry type of war. where horses had to be " canon food" - and charge right into the canons and yes - long marches.
I hope that this year 2009 i can go there with one of the stables horses who is also a lusitano. although he is not mine i ride him the most intensely and i train him so i rlly hope i can go there with my two teachers!
Beautiful!

A splendid show - the baroque exterior of the Lusitan is a joy to the eye.
They are bred for special purposes: the Bull ring, the parade, and in earlier times the tournoi.
As a war horse, no. Knee action is to high to make it fit for long distances as a cavalry charger.
Nonetheless tremendously elegant and beautiful. I would not mind to have one.
