  • hey here's an idea g.m.-try making some cars that are reliable

  • i would not mind one of these runnung over an ied before me.These could be life savers in any situation

  • What happens when they run out of gas?

  • This would be boring. I enjoy driving, why would I want my vehicle to drive itself?

  • @Friendly0Dan

    Good for you!

  • in like 15 - 20 years it will be Autopilot Cars that u can buy.

And it will not be this mant Sensors at Roof =D

  • Imagine this, imagine that... They will fire that young bright guy and put some old fart in charge of this technology, put these autopilots on streets and have cops eat doughnuts. Next thing you know - schoferbot anyone?

  • I want my tahoe to drive me around while I watch tv in the back haha

  • In soviet russia, car drives you!

  • Cars that drive by them self already exist, they're call taxies:P

  • what's so fucking hard about driving yourself somewhere. typical america-anything to do even less work

  • I definitely welcome the invention of driverless cars. I would like to be chauffeured around as if I was riding a taxi.

Yes, I understand there are other people who really like driving, but I would like driverless cars to be around.

  • Totally Agree.

  • Hey, americans can break limbs to, one of my relatives broke both arms.Dang, you are just racist.

  • @tuckernozz Not true. yes some Americans are lazy/stupid (just like everywhere else in the world) i for one think things like this (among other "conveniences") take the living out of life, leaving us with a very bland life void of responsibility. (the reason, IMO that people get sucked into reality shows and other forms of artificial excitement)

people i know who are lazy (or taken care of by others) always seem to be depressed, ever notice that, or wonder why that is?

  • @rhauf1

because they find it difficult to do those tasks by them selves why wouldn't they??

  • Fuck this. This is the next step towards the government controlling every single aspect of our lives.

  • Explain how a car that drives itself turns out to be government control? are you going to say because the car will do the speed limit and obey all traffic rules therefore not giving you the choice to break the law?

  • thats exactly wat hes saying. this isn't government control but it is a stepping stone to it. if a car, which gives us the independence to go where we want and express ourselves in many ways can control itself, why can't fridges control themselves and maybe trains or garbage cans. so they can take them selves out. Yes, our world would be way more efficient but if they fuck up, we're fucked up. im not trusting my life to a piece of hardware unless i have to. watch irobot. its a perfect example

  • I'm trying to follow you even though you make horrible examples. Fridges? they do control themselves, and if a garbage pail took itself to the street that would give me one less thing to think about. Maybe I just don't understand why you think technology is bad? I see it as a great thing, if I'm driving to Florida and I'm tired, why not let my car drive while i sleep? Please explain to me how this is government control.

  • ok well fridges were a horrible point. but why the hell would you sleep while your car drives? You're telling me you're comfortable with being unconscious while a piece of hardware is controlling the vehicle you're going x amount of mph in? one malfunction, and it will malfunction because everything does, and you're freakin dead. Technology isn't bad but its not perfect. and it needs to be if we're going to trust our lives with it.

  • People sleep on planes all the time and the only time the pilot actually fly's is on takeoff and landing. Its been proven that you can rely more on technology then you can on yourself or any other human. I know the idea sounds scary but I'm sure it would be safer. Think about ABS, we wouldn't need ABS if people could be calm during an emergency and pump the brakes. We don't need technology but with it we are able to live longer with more productive lives.

  • O no, the computer failed. Than what?

  • Correct.

  • EVOLUTION, NOT REVOLUTION. I'm for a driverless car but I realize that to do this, it has to occur incrementally because if there's a problem it'll be easier to diagnose. Already, car companies like Mercedes-Benz is doing it thru its following pioneering innovations (from earliest to latest):

    AntiLock Brakes,

    Traction Control,

    Electronic Stability Program,

    Brake Assist,

    4matic,

    Distronic Cruise Control,

    Active Body Control,

    Pre-Safe Brake

    and after 2010, Pre-Scan.

  • In Soviet Russia...

  • car drive you!

  • WTF??? Did he say his name was Chris Handsome?????

  • yes guess wot..BMW made a car like that before GM..and their car doesn't look like a weather station...it looks like a ordinaty BMW 3-Series...so HA

  • No no no, these cars can think for themselves, but BMW 3 (the one featured in TopGear, right?) could "only" drive round preprogrammed course.

  • oh i see...well it's a start for both comapnies..all they need in the BMW is sensors all around

  • for the first time my feet will not hurt lol!! relaxation

  • Think a camping car that drives itself. You will just sit back there, and travel round your or other countries. Here in Finland Lappland is sure a nice location.

  • driving suppose to be a pleasure not something that must be change

  • yeah sure, but imagine doing a long trip, while the car drives it self, and you can watch a dvd confortable while on a trip... that will be awsome..

  • @corpsept Yeah sweet, so we can spend 100% of our time being entertained by media.. because the world doesn't watch enough TV already.

  • then,,,dont buy one

  • mnan that looks heavy.....wonder how they do in the snow?

  • You can see more videos on the Carnegie Mellon Robotics channel. Also, for more on the race, google "Carnegie Mellon Tartan Racing". CMU is working with GM and other partners on the Urban Challenge.

  • Amen, brother. Haha.

  • Wow cool stuff! Women should be given one lol

  • What's THAT supposed to mean?

  • Sorry for your wife's nephew, but girls aren't the only ones that make stupid mistakes. Sorry to say, but there are also teen guys out there that drive irresponsibly.

And no, I don't like THAT because THAT is tragic and that 17 yr. old girl was/is an idiot.

  • The minute I saw the word...tragic... I see that you're a feeling person, I apologize for coming on too hard.

That young women will go through life knowing she killed a innocent boy because of her actions ... punishment that will last a lifetime.

  • 90% of statistics are made-up

  • Did you make that up? ;)

  • Statistically, theres a high chance i did :P

  • @theinsekt Correction, women have fewer accidents than men... better drivers? not necessarily, lower risk-takers? definitely.

  • ye but that time it was one
