  • I saw this logo on the Disneyland 59' special on a Vault Disney DVD. It kept the original commericals intact too!

  • 1958 would be mille nongenta duodesexaginta.

  • The font ABC used is really neat.

  • Dick Wesson, Disney's long-time announcer [until his death in 1979], identifies the network here, so this was usually seen at the very end of "WALT DISNEY PRESENTS" between 1958 and '61 (that's what "DISNEYLAND" was known as during its last three seasons on the network, before moving to NBC in '61).

  • I wanna ask this:

Is the Circle A the prototype for today's ABC logo that we know and love?

  • Just a predecessor.

  • Actually it wasn't, because the ABC Circle logo was designed by Paul Rand, although he may of used that Big "A" logo(which only lasted about five seasons as it was rather short lived) to design it after which made it seem like it was a prototype.

  • @tbear4pa - By 1961-62, promo slides for various programs that bore the "Big A" logo had a different font variation inside, one closer to what Mr. Rand would later design. (This, of course, does not call into account G. Dean Smith's design of the accompanying "circle 7" logo which likewise first took effect in the fall of 1962 at the network's O&O's.)

  • If "The Swamp Fox" was a serialized series on 'Walt Disney Presents", why did they use a custom background and 'Swamp Fox" theme instead of the castle backgrounds and 'When You Wish Upon a Star" playing?

  • This same presentation was also used in the closing of Matty's Funday Funnies in 1960.

  • This was the ABC TV logo used between 1957 and 1963. This also could be known as the predecessor to the current ABC logo with the circle and the font that they use.

  • Half a century ago, when ABC was the last of the 3 TV networks in ratings: CBS had more viewers and NBC was the established one. The Dumont Network faded by then along with the radio Mutual Network, due to competition by CBS and NBC. Before Disney purchased the ownership of ABC in 1996, they long had a partnership with the ABC network. Same goes to RCA/General Electric of NBC and group W/ Westinghouse of CBS, the people who brought you fridges and toasters helped us get TV. +

  • Not to mention it was a theater chain spun off from Paramount (under court order) in 1953 that merged with ABC to give the TV network some badly needed money.

ABC was legally referred to as "American Broadcasting Company - United Paramount Theaters" up until 1965.

  • Close. It's actually called, American Broadcasting-Paramount Theaters, Inc. then became American Broadcasting Companies, Inc in 1965 due to Paramount's sole ownership of the name.

  • And Mutual was the only radio network that did not even launch a television network.

  • Interesting ABC logo.

  • You're right. Besides, the last Swamp Fox episode on "Disneyland" was in 1961 anyway.

  • MrFonny61 is right. it is 1958

the "V" in Roman Numerals is 5. "X" is 10.

    therefore, MCM - 1900, L - 50, V - 5, III - 8. 1958.

  • Yes, Sorry It was my mistake.

  • oh that's fine

  • Should be 1958.
