dude college refs suck a lot everyone knows it. If anyone saw the UCF/USF game last week they know this. The refs spot the ball half a foot back from the first down marker even though the tapes show him get the first or at least an inch short, and the spot kept UCF from continuing a drive which could have one them the game. I felt bad for the UCF fans. I really wanted USF to lose.

There are plenty of bad calls in sports, which is why when INSTANT REPLAY fails to overturn an obvious call, it tends to stick with you. It opens the specter of ulterior motives by the officiating and replay crews, and makes you wonder if someone's in somebody's pocket. Struggling programs always seem to be on the losing end of such calls, and I believe it's to preserve the ranking and stature of the more successful program, which then results in the potential for more money to be made.

Anyhow, it wouldn't be on ESPN's highlight film since ESPN only had two cameras that day, one from the back of the end zone (conveniently blocked by that fat security guy in the yellow windbreaker) and the picture you see here where the receiver appears to score a TD.

Taking ESPN's word has nothing to do with this. I saw it with my own 2 eyes the day after the game. They were using a goalline cam from a local Hartford CBS station. He bobbled.

the problem with the LINC and temple is the revenue generated from temple games. lots of times, the LINC will probably lose money from lack of attendence and profits for temple games. hopefully, temple will generate wins and draw more people/exposure/tv time. as for getting it's own stadium, that's a far stretch for now. between finding a suitable location, cost of construction, etc. we used to play at Upenn's field. that was awful seeing penn's logo at our games.

I would say it doesn't matter either way. He didn't make the catch. if they called it a TD even though it wasn't a catch, I would've been fine with it. When you play a game like this, you can't complain when a ref makes a call in split seconds and inches. Those are the breaks. If the call went against UConn, so be it.

By the way, there was more time on the clock for a potential UConn field goal had the pass been ruled a TD.

I said the call doesn't matter either way. You live with it. It was very close. I watched the game and I thought it was a TD blown call at first. Then I saw the third angle on ESPN and it wasn't a catch. Either way refers to the fact that referees are human, and on bang-bang plays they are going to call it one way or another. Look at the baseball game the other night, Lofton was safe into second base, safe by a hair, and the ref got the call wrong. Did Lofton argue? No. What can you do?

It's first and foremost a blown call on the field. His foot was clearly in bounds by a few inches. I, the announcers, and I'm sure many others called it as a TD watching live.

I'm forced to agree with those who accept the booth decision not to overturn. But the reason everyone is so furious is because the replays make it obvious that "touchdown" was the correct call.

What you would need to overturn is either timestamps on the videos or the ability to synchronize them.

Seats were UConn side near goal line-great view from otehr angle. we thought we were seeing huge upset, but what these replays don't show that was that he appeared to one hand the ball but juggled it before he settled it with the other hand well out of bounds when he secured it. we couldn't figure out why they reviewed it so long. a coworker told me that Temple was jobbed - so i logged on to see it again. if all the angles are time synced, you can prove from the video that it was a catch. there are multiple angles that show control and also his foot touches the ground. this is poor mechanics by the officials and the review official. it was probably the worst video review anyone has ever done.

At this point, no video appears to exist showing clear evidence WR Bruce Francis had control of the ball or that he touched his foot in bounds with full ball control. At full speed, the refs made the correct call. In slow motion with the available videos, college rules prevent a reversal with inconclusive evidence. Tough loss.

The college rule is different from the NFL. In college, you need conclusive evidence to overturn. That angle doesn't show him controlling the football and getting his foot in. It only shows him getting his foot in.

On the field, it was incomplete. The camera angle that was needed was not available to make an overturning call. ( back left endzone, showing ball control while dragging the foot in the endzone ). With that angle, then call would have been overturned, but since you didnt have that angle... Call on the field stands.
