dude college refs suck a lot everyone knows it. If anyone saw the UCF/USF game last week they know this. The refs spot the ball half a foot back from the first down marker even though the tapes show him get the first or at least an inch short, and the spot kept UCF from continuing a drive which could have one them the game. I felt bad for the UCF fans. I really wanted USF to lose.
There are plenty of bad calls in sports, which is why when INSTANT REPLAY fails to overturn an obvious call, it tends to stick with you. It opens the specter of ulterior motives by the officiating and replay crews, and makes you wonder if someone's in somebody's pocket. Struggling programs always seem to be on the losing end of such calls, and I believe it's to preserve the ranking and stature of the more successful program, which then results in the potential for more money to be made.
You mean the refs who ripped off 10 points from UConn after the blown fair catch? Hopefully, yes. because those refs were horrible. They took 10 points away from UConn after the fair catch call. If you watched the game you know what I'm talking about.
Huh? ESPN slays the BE all the time. ESPN = Disney.
Anyhow, it wouldn't be on ESPN's highlight film since ESPN only had two cameras that day, one from the back of the end zone (conveniently blocked by that fat security guy in the yellow windbreaker) and the picture you see here where the receiver appears to score a TD.
Taking ESPN's word has nothing to do with this. I saw it with my own 2 eyes the day after the game. They were using a goalline cam from a local Hartford CBS station. He bobbled.
um the big east made ESPN the network it is today with their college basketball coverage when espn was laughed at , and 2nd even if espn had a replay showing it wasnt a catch , the replay officials clearly didnt and to not over turn that call is a joke and typical big east crap
"Wake Forest made the Orange Bowl the year earlier."
Good for them, that doesn't mean that they were good last year. You guys got killed. Had no business being ranked in the top 25 or anywhere near. Congrats, you beat an overrated south florida.
2) They were voted out because of ONE team (Rutgers) Nobody else. Get your facts straight please.
3)They aren't deserving of a national rank. They were GIVEN, GIVEN wins against good teams. (Remember the Louisville incident, or are you going to tell me that wasn't a fair catch! HAA!)
4)The Big Least won because the Big Least got revenge on a former team.
- Once again, please explain to me the reasoning of the Big East wanting your "Little Fags" back in?
Co Champ of an overrated conference doesnt make you a big gun , going 9-4 with that schedule, with an beating from a crap wake forest team in a 2nd tier bowl doesnt make you a big gun,you played 2 teams that were ranked in the final polls and lost to both of them by a combined 69 points, you arent a big gun. when you have games like this vs Temple in which you need the refs to save your ass from falling behind at home in the final minute, you arent a big gun .
thats complete shit....you lost a tiebreaker 66-13 to wvu....2nd place in the big east, none of that cochamp shit. 06-07 uva basketball tied with unc for the acc title, but unc beat us by 10 at unc so we came in second.......and stick to basketball....no matter what uconn does in the next ten years, they are not a football program
the problem with the LINC and temple is the revenue generated from temple games. lots of times, the LINC will probably lose money from lack of attendence and profits for temple games. hopefully, temple will generate wins and draw more people/exposure/tv time. as for getting it's own stadium, that's a far stretch for now. between finding a suitable location, cost of construction, etc. we used to play at Upenn's field. that was awful seeing penn's logo at our games.
it's funny how the temple owls are doing better than the philadelphia eagles record wise. for the past couple of years, a temple player has been on the roster of a super bowl winning team. it's only a matter of time before we get big and good like rutgers did after sucking for so long.
temple alum here. yeah that was a horrible call. i saw that ending before i went to my pal's graduation party. he graduated from TU in the summer. did anyone else in johnson hall scream?
Wow----i can't believe that UConn is in a BCS conference. And Temple---they used to be Big East----tells you a little about the quality of that conference.
thats why the big east issued an apology and stated that the call should have been overturned and a touchdown for Temple... and the replay offical was a Big east offical...
Review ref yes, not the ref who called the play on the field. The review ref is never going to overturn a call without evidence. There was no angle that showed him with control of the ball. FACT. Plus, he didn't even have control. This is a 100% certainty as they showed on ESPN.
I would say it doesn't matter either way. He didn't make the catch. if they called it a TD even though it wasn't a catch, I would've been fine with it. When you play a game like this, you can't complain when a ref makes a call in split seconds and inches. Those are the breaks. If the call went against UConn, so be it.
By the way, there was more time on the clock for a potential UConn field goal had the pass been ruled a TD.
I'm confused. In an earlier message you wrote to someone else that says the video only shows him getting his foot in. So, now it "doesn't matter either way"? Which one is it?
I said the call doesn't matter either way. You live with it. It was very close. I watched the game and I thought it was a TD blown call at first. Then I saw the third angle on ESPN and it wasn't a catch. Either way refers to the fact that referees are human, and on bang-bang plays they are going to call it one way or another. Look at the baseball game the other night, Lofton was safe into second base, safe by a hair, and the ref got the call wrong. Did Lofton argue? No. What can you do?
does anybody know the name of the song they paly before the kickoff? im not sure but i think the lyrics are "we ready"..again not sure if those are right
Awful call - the Owls won that ballgame. How do you take away an obvious TD from that kid and that team that is doing everything they can to turn things around on North Broad St? Brutal, just brutal
I was screaming and yelling because I knew he caught that ball. Even before the replay, then I saw the replay and it made me think we won. Then the ref. came on the field and said incomplete? What? I dont blame him I blame the man that saw the play. In the NFL the on-field ref makes the call how come its not like that in the NFL?
It's first and foremost a blown call on the field. His foot was clearly in bounds by a few inches. I, the announcers, and I'm sure many others called it as a TD watching live.
I'm forced to agree with those who accept the booth decision not to overturn. But the reason everyone is so furious is because the replays make it obvious that "touchdown" was the correct call.
What you would need to overturn is either timestamps on the videos or the ability to synchronize them.
Penn State guy, but was visiting a friend who had tickets. Seats were UConn side near goal line-great view from otehr angle. we thought we were seeing huge upset, but what these replays don't show that was that he appeared to one hand the ball but juggled it before he settled it with the other hand well out of bounds when he secured it. we couldn't figure out why they reviewed it so long. a coworker told me that Temple was jobbed - so i logged on to see it again. I think refs got this one right
if all the angles are time synced, you can prove from the video that it was a catch. there are multiple angles that show control and also his foot touches the ground. this is poor mechanics by the officials and the review official. it was probably the worst video review anyone has ever done.
Wow, somebody is on the T A K E... boy, you have to be on the take to screw somebody over that bad. The refs are worse than metermaids, and that's saying something
I was there and I was the only Temple fan. Me and my friend were going crazy, because 1. It was obviously a catch. 2. We really wanted the upset. 3. the uconn stadium didnt show a replay even once. They know that they got pwned, i hate them.
We (myself being a UConn alum) know Temple won. I was walking around my house all PO'ed after that score. Was totally amazed refs didn't call it a TD.
They were MAC officials on the field and Big East officials in the booth. I think whatever the field officials called would have been upheld either way.
At this point, no video appears to exist showing clear evidence WR Bruce Francis had control of the ball or that he touched his foot in bounds with full ball control. At full speed, the refs made the correct call. In slow motion with the available videos, college rules prevent a reversal with inconclusive evidence. Tough loss.
"( back left endzone, showing ball control while dragging the foot in the endzone ). With that angle, then call would have been overturned, but since you didnt have that angle..."
You would still require conclusive evidence of ball control. It's possible the receiver actually had total control of the ball while simultaneously touching his foot down, but it is not evident from the videos available to this point. Tough loss.
The college rule is different from the NFL. In college, you need conclusive evidence to overturn. That angle doesn't show him controlling the football and getting his foot in. It only shows him getting his foot in.
