What I find amusing is that this video is based on a call in an overtime period that should never have even been played. You base this entire post on a "bad call", (which actually was the correct call, but that is actually irrelevant) -- the bottom line is that this game was over in regulation -- Gamble was inbounds for the catch with 2 mins remaining in the 4th quart. This game was over at that point. Miami fans -- you lost. Fair and square. OSU had to beat you both in regulation, and in OT.

Take some officiating classes before you start trying to interpret rules. Referee Magazine lists it as one of the "Best 18 Calls in Officiating History" and as a former high school official I have to agree. Holding when the ball in the air is pass interference. Also I noticed you mentioned more OSU players in the NFL than you did Miami players. I have nothing against Miami and wish you had as much class as the fans I met at the game.

both have valid points but i will say this. I concur that its more likely to be facemask or holding, which is half the distance to the goal. however UM had just allowed OSU to drive that far, when you change the situation it changes the mindset, and while we will never know its still possible they could have made the 3 yds too.
besides that, if UM was and is so great then it should have never gotten into the hands of a ref.

I will agree that pass interference shouldn't have been called. What the correct call should have been was defensive holding. The corner clearly held Gamble before the ball went in the air. Pryor might not be faster than everyone on your squad but he is faster than your linebackers. Second Shield and McGee are DB's not DE's jackass. You said your defensive ends and linebackers were faster and they run better laterally. Third if Pryor breaks through those lines (which he will) he's already converting getting into your DB's area. Fourth Hester is with the Bears now so that is irrelevant. Fifth if Miami plays like they did against Wisconsin you're dead.

Tell me how you determine advantage /disadvantage if you throw a flag as soon as you see a possible infraction? the idea is not to flag every possible infraction, but those that have an affect on the play. Sometimes, often in fact that require an official to wait to throw the (late) flag. Flagging as soon as you see an infraction only mires the game down in endless steam of penalties, and a ridiculuosly long,boring game

I wasn't on the field to throw it, and never interviewed him afterward.However late it was, it was still was still graded correct.Late flags are a common occurrance,Often, the viewer doesn't evenknow it's late. Whatever effect it had on the psyce of the Miami squad was their problem. If they quit,as you seem to imply (i don't buy it) because things didn't go their way, tough, they deserved to lose. What I find amusing is that this video is based on a call in an overtime period that should never have even been played. You base this entire post on a "bad call", (which actually was the correct call, but that is actually irrelevant) -- the bottom line is that this game was over in regulation -- Gamble was inbounds for the catch with 2 mins remaining in the 4th quart. This game was over at that point. Miami fans -- you lost. Fair and square. OSU had to beat you both in regulation, and in OT.

Take some officiating classes before you start trying to interpret rules. Referee Magazine lists it as one of the "Best 18 Calls in Officiating History" and as a former high school official I have to agree. Holding when the ball in the air is pass interference. Also I noticed you mentioned more OSU players in the NFL than you did Miami players. I have nothing against Miami and wish you had as much class as the fans I met at the game.

you yourself said it took OSU 3 downs to score. so lets play this out. they get 1 yard in 3 downs. so now its 4th and goal at the 2. your still saying that basically you know as a fact OSU didnt have the ability to score from the 2 on 4th down? looking into the 2nd OT they obviously showed the ability to score.

both have valid points but i will say this. I concur that its more likely to be facemask or holding, which is half the distance to the goal. however UM had just allowed OSU to drive that far, when you change the situation it changes the mindset, and while we will never know its still possible they could have made the 3 yds too.
besides that, if UM was and is so great then it should have never gotten into the hands of a ref.

@jac1318 the right call is still defensive holding (which OSU still gets a new set of downs and oh yeah scores) or a facemask which is half the distance and who knows what happens. There was a penalty how about all the Miami fans stop whining about how maybe we coulda won if the right call was made also remember there was a blantant pass interference in the 3rd quarter that was not called, forcing OSU to punt and Miami scored on that drive..

I will agree that pass interference shouldn't have been called. What the correct call should have been was defensive holding. The corner clearly held Gamble before the ball went in the air. So instead of the ball being placed at the 2 for PI, it is half the distance to the goal at the 4. Buckeyes still score, and still win in 2 OT. Same result.

Pryor might not be faster than everyone on your squad but he is faster than your linebackers. Second Shield and McGee are DB's not DE's jackass. You said your defensive ends and linebackers were faster and they run better laterally. Third if Pryor breaks through those lines (which he will) he's already converting getting into your DB's area. Fourth Hester is with the Bears now so that is irrelevant. Fifth if Miami plays like they did against Wisconsin you're dead.

Tell me how you determine advantage /disadvantage if you throw a flag as soon as you see a possible infraction? the idea is not to flag every possible infraction, but those that have an affect on the play. Sometimes, often in fact that require an official to wait to throw the (late) flag. Flagging as soon as you see an infraction only mires the game down in endless steam of penalties, and a ridiculuosly long,boring game

No way for me to know why it was late other than what he said. I wasn't on the field to throw it, and never interviewed him afterward.However late it was, it was still was still graded correct.Late flags are a common occurrance,Often, the viewer doesn't evenknow it's late. Whatever effect it had on the psyce of the Miami squad was their problem. If they quit,as you seem to imply (i don't buy it) because things didn't go their way, tough, they deserved to lose. Champions play through adversity.

If flags are thrown and it affects your team so much, someone needs to step up and get their team focused. Tebow had no problem doing that, and his players responded. Still had Winslow who was catching everything thrown his way and Walter's boy Jarrett Payton running the ball to. And what cause Porter couldn't make up his mind. Didn't throw the flag quick enough for you. I've seen it in college and in the NFL. Late flags are common. I've seen refs miss holding calls all day and it was right in front of their face.

Ok, first of all Chris Gamble is in the NFL playing for the Carolina Panther, and doing pretty well might I add.
Michael Jenkins is the star receiver of the Falcons, but it's not his fault that they suck. Josh Cribbs is the star of the Browns, the Browns suck, but that doesn't mean that Josh Cribbs sucks.

It was with a great goal line stand, and it will be a while before you see one as good in game this big. Miami had the same chance at the goal line stand, and couldn't do it. On top of that, the correct call was made. Graded as such.Make the plays, and win the game.

@cougfan53 Missed calls are part ofthe game, just like missed blocks, bad playcalling, droppes passes, missed receivers,and turnovers etc. The champion has to play through them in order to become champion. Calls were missed agaist OSU,and they managed to overcome. Miami should have when their chance came, but couldn't.Its moot anyway, since this one was correct, and graded as such

Miami was great in the PAST and had great players in the PAST. They are not what they used to be. I'll give you that in the college rankings of universities Miami is #50 and Oh St #53.
