There is a small marbling scene in England, though English marblers tend to follow English patterns; It seems to be a uniquely Turkish art to create those wonderful pictures of flowers. The principle is the same however. I use an old butcher's meat tray which is the right size for whole sheets of paper. Colours can be any water based colours, though for the finest results I use extra fine artists water colours.
Its been a year since I first heard of ebru art but I still love it. I am planing on actually visiting Turkey soon so may get to try it out there. What type of paper do you use? I tried this but it all went wrong when I tried to transfer it to paper.
I use Fabriano ingres because that suits my needs, but the principle will work well with any paper. Did you alum your paper and leave it to settle over night between boards? Ebru is really big in Turkey, I am sure there are little courses. Have a look on Facebook, you will find groups of Turkish marbling/ebru artists and amateurs. I am sure you could find a workshop or course in Istamboul to visit.
