I got a bolens 1455 that had a 14hp Wisconsin but we up graded to a 20 hp Honda v twin and it seems that they did not exist but for one year. Have you had any trouble with parts for the oringial motor
hey there man. The original engine in what? this 1962 bolens 600, or the 1455. Because i actually do have a 1455, and i need a front engine pulley for it pretty bad. the front axle broke, and came up and smashed the cast aluminum pulley. the 14hp wisconsin, in that frame, with that trans was used for at least 3 years i think. Different model names, but same machine really. Different style throttle cables, seat an steering wheel shape thats pretty much it.
@tommartyn it might of been fixable, but It wouldn't of been worth fixing anyway. I removed everything except the rear transmission and i now use it as a trailer. Unfortunately the transmission has locked up now so its pretty useless.
Ah, gotcha. Hey, did you see my video on why bolens tractors don't roll? Its about how the transmissions are designed to lock up unless the driveshaft is driving it.
Ah, gotcha. Hey, did you see my video on why bolens tractors don't roll? Its about how the transmissions are designed to lock up unless the driveshaft is driving it.
@tommartyn Actually i did, but i guess i never put the two together in my mind, Thanks:D, Btw, i was wondering, you guys seem to usually romp around in 8-12 hp tractors, do you have any more powerful ones or are the smaller ones just easier to get your hands on:P?
Well, with the bolens, My favorite ones are all 8.25-12hp, so its mostly just how it works out. I really like the wisconsin engines, and these didn't have any bigger wisconsin's in them. The tecumseh's they used in some of the newer tube frame bolens, like 14 -16 hp were junk, and smoke like crazy, and run like crap, so i pretty much don't worry about them. Though i do like extra power, for sure :) we could us it alot sometimes. But we still have fun with what we got.
@tommartyn I'v got 94-96(i think) GT6000 Craftsman with a 22Hp kohler vtwin in it. Bought some good tires for it a couple years ago and have been romping with it ever since and never really had any problems. The tractor i had before this one was also a GT6000, looked exactly the same except it had a horizontal 20Hp Briggs&Stratton in it, It smoked so much that it was actually hard to see where you were going:P
aw man, it all very's. The green bolens 600 in this vid has the original 6HP horizontal, aluminum briggs engine. the wheel horse raider 10 has a 5.5 HP honda on it that we threw on in place of the totally worn out tecumseh 10HP it had. and most of my bolens are running 8.25 HP wisconsins. because somehow i ended up having a whole lot of those engines off of 850's and 900's.
wow my 420 lse wheel horse would be sweet to romp with but im afraid im no where near a mud bog and i dont have a trailor. got a camera though..... sorry.
I was seriously supprised how powerfull that bolens is with an old 6 HP on it. and it revs crazy high so the things kinda fast too. keeps up with the big puppys :) these bolens 600's are the only bolens tube frames that are a different length. they actually are a few inches shorter. makes wheelies easier, and more dangerous. and turning sharper :) Yeah chains kick ass. I don't trust the people who come here though to not get killed or really hurt with them, so i try not to use them.
i've possibly got a sears custom, had a 10 HP tecumseh on it, also got a '69? sears suburban 15, and my friend drew keeps his 70's sears GT 19.9 hp here. they are all the same design, probably just like the 62. same frame, front end, transmission. just different years, engines, and hoods. :) they are cool machines. don't have real clutches or posi locking rears like most of the bolens though.
The 600? yeah, that thing is awesome. and a really good deal at 150 bucks. though it is painted green... which kinda sucks. its still very cool to have the first bolens husky tube frame model. what started it all! for the tube frames at least.
Yeah, thats a 1962 briggs and stratton. its pretty old man :) and its no Wisconsin engine. so i'm pretty impressed with it. even when it runs shitty.
only in the way that you can be as rough with them as you want, and you don't have to care about breaking them at all, because they suck, and are cheap pieces of shit. but that does make it more fun, just doing it as crazy as you want to. but they really arn't good at it. but old SEARS are good for this. before they were craftsmans. actually good tractors, and they work very well. very comfortable too. but they're all fun if you're doing this kind of stuff.
last week i was going to buy one from this guy on ebay for about 30 bucks. then yesterday, i just got my Sears 15 going for the first time. with a HUGE 15 HP 1 CYL briggs on it. crazy stuff. if you drop the clutch in third at idle, it does a wheelie without the engine even noticing... very cool. i'm actually going to go work on that now. I can't wait to see its Romping potential. i think its going to do good though.
Hey! thanks for asking. Its got the stock 6 HP briggs... all most all of my 30 other bolens have the wisconsins though. i was really supprised by this briggs, its had a really bad knock the whole time, but hasn't blown at high rpm's. and we gave it alot! i've been really using alot of S-8d's lately. just got another 900 with one that i have to get going.
Do you have any recoil starts that bolt on to the s-7d to tra 12-D engines that bolens used in the tube frames through the years?
Well, you have inspired me. About 2 hours ago, I bought a Bolens 600, and I am going to put a magneto Wisconsin Engine on it. I'll let you know how it is when it is finished.
ha ha, luckily there was no contract. and i think he only knows me as tom. plus i think he may have been almost 80, so he probably dosn't use the internet. That is something to keep in mind though when i buy stuff. alot of these people wouldn't want to find out what happens to the stuff.
hey, too bad you weren't there the one time when i tried to go up this crazy steep tall hill with the thing, and it flipped backwards, and i had to bail off and try as hard as i could to roll out of the way before the thing would have landed on me, probably killing me. you could have been cheering for it to land on me, then you could have been pissed when it missed and bent the steering wheel all up from flipping a few times. sorry you missed out on that.
no, you said i was an asshole. you actually said me and my friend were both assholes. its written right up there... you know, right above what i wrote. and you wrote it, 27 minutes ago. so, you probably should know that. especially when i can even see it, right as i'm typing this. but you know, what ever i guess. assholes/idiots, tractor/rocket ship, whats the difference really?
hey, drink piss too right? yeah, i guess i am a stupid prick, after all i go around leaving shitty comments on peopls videos... wait a minute, no i don't! oh yeah... thats you. well, it seems like you might be the prick, but, can't be helped i guess. you DO suck. so, ehh, its just the way it is. no big whoop.
I have this broblem alot too. stupid pricks that watch videos that they don't like to watch for some reason, then comment about how bad it is. like wtf man?
actually, i am older then him, i'm 16, hes 12. yahh. and he was in Green Meadow Institute for The Mentally Insane. (GMIMI) he just got out the other day, u can search it, its in Wallingburgh, GA
i think molesters are normally older then the person they molest.... maybe you guys were just having some gay sex, but didn't realize it. you probably both though you were being molested... common mistake. can't be helped really. but yeah, good luck with all of that. yeah man, and if you save up enough of those pills from the asylum, it'll really mess you up when you finally pop then all. Cheers!
i have a bolens f-60 and it works the a mother fucking chicken! it has a 34 horse power, a f8 engine, and a awesome paint job, and the exhaust was bought at walmart. so yeahh. u want it? i also have a wheel horse 7-60
holy fuck dude!!! its got a 34 horse power!!!! yeah i'd gobble that thing right up!!! does it have the chicken sprocket too??? cause that shits an unstopable combinations, having a 34 horse power, and a chicken sprocket, is like, killer dope for drive through orders. put a mobile toilet on the beast, and that would pretty much do it i think... wals mart. the best.
is green thats original color or did they make them red like the hood like mine? and im pretty sure mines a 600also cuz i seen the 800s in the pic of mine i can clearly see the grill is like urs skinny and has lines in it and 800s do not. do you think that engine is a kohler or briggs in the pic and if 6hp? i think maybe bigger? think its about the same size as yours?
mine should be gold. 62's 63's were all gold. none were ever red. all the hoods are exactly the same, except the length is slightly shorter for the 600, there is a different small indentation for the logos on the front, depending on the year, but not the model. in 66 or 67 the hoods became boxy. and '50 was added to the numbers. 600's never had locking rears or clutches, the picture you showed me does. it has to be an 800 or 900. unless someone put all the parts off of one on a 600 frame.
for that hood style, there was also a 1000, that had a wisconsin TR-10D engine, with a magneto, and a high and low in the gear box, not by different belt. but the picture has the lever for the belt hi-lo system, so it cannot be a 1000 or a 600.
alright, i'e been starring at the picture for a long time now. i wish it was alot bigger so i could see more detail. i think the 63's might have had off whiteish hoods. and gold frames and all. the hood looks short, like a 600's. so some one may have put all the parts from a 900 on it. for the better steering radius of the 600. i say 900, because the engine is starting to look like it MIGHT be a wisconsin S-8D. 8.25hp.
the way the exaust pipe comes out of the block on an angle, and it looks like the head has a curve's out by the exaust, those are S-8d and TR-10D/TRA-10D features. the S-7D engines had non curved out heads, and the exaust port was flat with the intake port. the 800's had the S-7D. That pully on the front is deffinatly NOT a stock pully. it might be a wisconsin pully, but its not for a bolens. though i'm sure it works fine. if its a wisconsin, thats what it is.
i just watched this video. haven't seen it for a long time. at the end the 600 is right next to an 63 800, so you can see the how the hood is the same, just shorter, and all the other similaritys and stuff.
this is a 62 bolens 600. with a 6 hp briggs engine. 63 was the first year for the tube frame bolens. it doesn't have the posi lock ability. controlled differential is what they call it. i'll try not to kill it, i like it alot, except the briggs engine. it works, but i'm more into the wisonsin engines most of the best ones came with. i have rolled this backwards down a hill since this video. messed the steering wheel up some. welded it back though!
they made the tube frame bolens from 62- the mid to late 70's i think. i used to know. they had all sorts of different power engines, 6hp to at least 15hp. they 600 was made till about 65? then was replaced with the 650. it was the same, but with a different hood, seat, steering wheel, dashboard, built in headlights, etc. not sure how long they made the 650 till. it was the cheapest one. if you want, i'll send you my myspace address, and you can check out the bolens pics on there.
The Green bolens 600 is a 62, the first year they made the tube frame bolens. the wheel horse is a 68 or a little newer. that tractor does really good at just about everything. the engine on the 600 is the orignal 6HP briggs, but the wheelhorse has a 5.5HP honda engine on it. its a great motor, lots of power, hardly uses any gas. quite. pullstart.
we took a two tires like the red lawn mower tire and put them on a ford fiesta rims had to beat they went on. front wheel drive man it was fun, we beat the finders in talk about a rooster tail
thats a weird concept for me... the idea, that the old tractors are ugly, and the new things that they call tractors are some how not. i have to say, the old tractors are strange looking macines, but i do really like the way they look. the green bolens is 6 hp, and the wheelhorse is 5.5 hp i think.
The Bolens came with them. thats the only real reason. i'd like to have them on almost everything! they do really well. i didn't even know they made that big of difference. i'll probably do that to a bunch more now.
i think 16, from memory anyway. 1050's- //// 850's- / 800's- // 600's- // 900's- // 1054's- / 1053's- / 1256's- / 1220's- / EK10's- / and only 2 of them work if you just walk right up to them with out doing any work to them. but i'm working on changing all that! hopefully.
well at least you have lots of parts to keep a few running my wife has a limit of 4 mowers in the garage so i will never be able to have that many without getting in trouble your a lucky guy that your wige puts up with 16
well, i'm actually a lucky guy that my grandmother puts up with 30 or so total tractors, and 14 or 15 cars i think. and all the other stuff i have. but it is all outside, in the back of the field she owns on 11 acres. so its not so bad when its mostly out of sight i guess. i'm only 23, not married or anything. it is great, having spare ones to keep them going! possibly even neccisarry!

alright, i'e been starring at the picture for a long time now. i wish it was alot bigger so i could see more detail. i think the 63's might have had off whiteish hoods. and gold frames and all. the hood looks short, like a 600's. so some one may have put all the parts from a 900 on it. for the better steering radius of the 600. i say 900, because the engine is starting to look like it MIGHT be a wisconsin S-8D. 8.25hp.

the way the exaust pipe comes out of the block on an angle, and it looks like the head has a curve's out by the exaust, those are S-8d and TR-10D/TRA-10D features. the S-7D engines had non curved out heads, and the exaust port was flat with the intake port. the 800's had the S-7D. That pully on the front is deffinatly NOT a stock pully. it might be a wisconsin pully, but its not for a bolens. though i'm sure it works fine. if its a wisconsin, thats what it is.

i just watched this video. haven't seen it for a long time. at the end the 600 is right next to an 63 800, so you can see the how the hood is the same, just shorter, and all the other similaritys and stuff.

ya thats a nice tractor i may be getting one how many hp is that? try not to kill it man what year is that?
fordwillkillyou 4 years ago
lol
this is a 62 bolens 600. with a 6 hp briggs engine. 63 was the first year for the tube frame bolens. it doesn't have the posi lock ability. controlled differential is what they call it. i'll try not to kill it, i like it alot, except the briggs engine. it works, but i'm more into the wisonsin engines most of the best ones came with. i have rolled this backwards down a hill since this video. messed the steering wheel up some. welded it back though!
tommartyn 4 years ago
lol nice what years did they make this from? are they all 6hp?
fordwillkillyou 4 years ago
they made the tube frame bolens from 62- the mid to late 70's i think. i used to know. they had all sorts of different power engines, 6hp to at least 15hp. they 600 was made till about 65? then was replaced with the 650. it was the same, but with a different hood, seat, steering wheel, dashboard, built in headlights, etc. not sure how long they made the 650 till. it was the cheapest one. if you want, i'll send you my myspace address, and you can check out the bolens pics on there.

what year are those babys
63impalaz 4 years ago
The Green bolens 600 is a 62, the first year they made the tube frame bolens. the wheel horse is a 68 or a little newer. that tractor does really good at just about everything. the engine on the 600 is the orignal 6HP briggs, but the wheelhorse has a 5.5HP honda engine on it. its a great motor, lots of power, hardly uses any gas. quite. pullstart.

we took a two tires like the red lawn mower tire and put them on a ford fiesta rims had to beat they went on. front wheel drive man it was fun, we beat the finders in talk about a rooster tail

it is wierd how mine looks good, but sucks mechanically, and those are old and ugly and they run great
adb140275 4 years ago
thats a weird concept for me... the idea, that the old tractors are ugly, and the new things that they call tractors are some how not. i have to say, the old tractors are strange looking macines, but i do really like the way they look. the green bolens is 6 hp, and the wheelhorse is 5.5 hp i think.
tommartyn 4 years ago
y doesnt the wheel horse have tiree chains but the bolens does?
sobe136 4 years ago
The Bolens came with them. thats the only real reason. i'd like to have them on almost everything! they do really well. i didn't even know they made that big of difference. i'll probably do that to a bunch more now.

that Looks Fun!

man how many bolens tractors do you have
Brian12Pearson12 4 years ago
tommartyn 4 years ago
well at least you have lots of parts to keep a few running my wife has a limit of 4 mowers in the garage so i will never be able to have that many without getting in trouble your a lucky guy that your wige puts up with 16
Brian12Pearson12 4 years ago
well, i'm actually a lucky guy that my grandmother puts up with 30 or so total tractors, and 14 or 15 cars i think. and all the other stuff i have. but it is all outside, in the back of the field she owns on 11 acres. so its not so bad when its mostly out of sight i guess. i'm only 23, not married or anything. it is great, having spare ones to keep them going! possibly even neccisarry!
tommartyn 4 years ago
keep them all working!
