  • Great news today. The Samsung contact I received today regarding a settlement is directly related to the class action lawsuit filed by Abington Cole. I am reviewing the forms sent to me tomorrow and I will let you folks know what the end result might be. Hopefully, you had signed up for the class action lawsuit and will receive a similar email. Great news!

  • OK now I know. Today, I received an email from Samsung itself! They are making an offer to settle with me directly because I have been involved with their repair performance and my television had defective capacitors. If you have had your set repaired by them then you will most likely receive this email. This is NOT Abington Cole. I still await their answer on that class action lawsuit.

  • OK to all that are following this Samsung debacle. Visit the attached web site and read the proposed class action law suit that is available. This is NOT the Abington Cole class action lawsuit. I am waiting for an answer from them on what to do. Read every word carefully. This may NOT be the answer for many of us.

  • Mr.Cape Cod, Thanks for the video. well done & informative. I have a similar problem.

I have to play with the remote about 5 minutes to get the set on. No problems after that as of yet. Just getting it turned on is a night mare sometimes,,,,,, Thanks,,,,,,,,,Steve

  • @proofdude Be careful. Continuing to turn the set on once the clicking starts may cause corruption in the motherboard, in otherwords, you will eat a $220 bill just for the board. The capacitors are deteriorating within your television. Have it repaired by samsung. Keep calling them until the cows come home. Be a pain in the neck...tell them you KNOW about the faulty capacitors. They will eventually send a repair team for ONLY the capacitors. They will NOT fix your motherboard.

  • A newer update for anyone dropping in on my video. 2/6/2012 After sufferring great pain at the loss of the Patriots to the Giants yesterday, I would like to report that apparently Samsung is responding more quickly these days to repair requests. Slightly less run a round. Thanks to social media, I think they are getting the message. Be forewarned...they are STILL saying NO to some people with older televisions. Keep it up.

  • You will have to add the first part to my link as it wont post lol, its safe it's my amateur radio forum hope you understand what I mean lol its the three letters followed by the dot lol, it will show you the £4 eprom I mentioned on my other post. nears.forumotion.co.uk/t30-how-to-fix-a-samsung-tv-switching-on-fault

  • @darynsax Anyone that has the problem and repairs it themselves through reading on my forum please join to let us all know, its all free amateur radio operators from round the world join and help others with info.

  • Yes the capacitors blow and I changed mine but again it would not start up, the problem on the motherboard whih happens because of the caps is the small eprom, I replaced this and the tv sprung to life, all that mone for a motherboard for the sake of a £4 eprom, mind it is very small but works a treat, Ive taken some photos of step to step procedure from the caps to the eprom take a look. nears.forumotion.co.uk/t30-how-to-fix-a-samsung-tv-switching-on-fault

  • I've just replaced 4 blown caps and so far my Samsung is now fine. Mine started with white noise on startup then few days later did random switch on off itself. After new caps in no more white noise but chiming sound back. It came in german and would then switch off after 1 minute so thought "i give up" only to find that sleep timer had defaulted to 1 minute!! Set this to off and now all good. Remember to get cap/polarity righr way around!

  • The problem is not wear and tear or bad design, it is faulty caps themselves. This is an industry wide problem not just tvs as shown on many youtube videos. This was not Samsungs' intention but not to back up their warranty is shameful. And I have seen many more than two of the defective brand of caps on their boards. ALL caps of the same brand(s) should be replaced during the service call, and for them to try to squeeze $300 out of consumers makes me hope their brand name goes down the sewer.

  • Anieves 1995, I also gave up on the Samsung brand and purchased a new LG model with an extended warranty from Best Buy. I am not going to gamble on any of these new electronic toys anymore. You really should consider joining the class action lawsuit. I too had the mother board fail, but Samsung blames ME for that failure. It would not hurt to sign up and heck, you might get something back for you pain.

  • Our tv just started having the same problem, we have had it for 5 and a half yrs. We had the mother board replaced after only two yrs and know this, we just gonna let it die and bye a new one not this brand though, it sucks

  • call samsung and they will give you a pro-rated refund. I got 540 dollars back for my 2 year old samsung. The number to call is 201 727-5638. When you agree to the refund they will send you an address and just send in the Electrical Cord (6 inch cut), and mail it together with a serial number in the back. The serial can be peeled and attached it in a bond paper and follow the instruction you will recieved from Samsung. After 10 days you will get at least 30 percent of the actual cost!

  • @pmagat01 This is a new tactic by Samsung. It will now look that they have developed a heart for the poor consumers who suffer the failure of their capacitors in the television sets. In my case, they sent me $200 in Best Buy gift cards. Did it help my pain for having spent over $1500 for my television? Absolutely not. They should take full accountability for their intentional production and sale of an inferior product. Thanks. I will pass this info along to others. Please, Join the law suit!

  • @pmagat01 I called the number, 201 727-5638, today, but there was no one to answer it. I had to leave message hoping that I would get a return call.

  • THE BEST SOLUTION FOR THAT PROBLEMS...BUY A NEW ONE AND ALWAYS HAVE THOUSANDS OF MONEY IN YOUR SAVINGS AND YOU WILL NOT DEAL WITH HEADACHES AND TIME!!!

  • fuk samsung i will try replacing the capacitors myself fuk them they won't be touching my set .they will only say you need more parts besides the caps fuk that company find a friend who knows how to solder .fuk samsung

  • Im keeping everything crossed that my tv will be ok, but prepared to replace capacitors myself if it happens again. Upping the voltage for each capacitor seems to be the way to go, ensuring (most important!) that the correct polarity is maintained. Not aware of any Legal action kicking off in Britain as yet, but way things are going, dont think it will be long. Thanks once again mate for all your efforts (keep up the good fight!) Hope you have many more hours of stress free viewing. HAGD!

  • Thanks so much for your kind replys to my Samsung queries. It's nice that someone takes the time and trouble to help others. It really annoys me (to put it mildly!) that Samsung obviously have been cutting corners at the expense of the consumer. Putting a 10V capacitor onto a 12V power board, what the hell did they think was likely to happen? It truly amazes me that that with this issue happening to so many people around the world, Samsung haven't done a product recall.

  • @77MyEsha My TV is LN52A750. I took a look at the caps, two of which were damaged with bulge at the top. The caps are 1000 micro F, 25V, 105 Celsius. It is not 10V rated. So it appears that the qualify is sub-par, not the rating or capacity. In my case, I doubt that Samsung will do anything for me, would it? Mine is 2 1/2 years old.

  • Hi there, Im from Britain (Wales) and have had this problem start with my 40" 2 year old Samsung. It went for repair, they say its been repaired and its coming back next week. Really worried now that they may have only done the 2 capacitors like yours. Cant afford to go forking out on motherboards etc. (my husbands just lost his job) so I am tempted to replace all 4 capacitors myself if the worst happens, what have I got to lose? Unfortunately I have 2 other Samsungs, which is making me nervous!

  • @77MyEsha the standard free repair by Samsung is for two capacitors on the powersupply board. If they see the two other capacitors have swollen caps, they will also repair those, but only if swollen. This is a minimum fix by Samsung, trying to get by with the smallest cost to them. It isn't worth worrying over because the current info says the motherboard failure is actually our fault from trying to keep using the television with bad capacitors. So, if the set keeps working..you are lucky.

  • @77MyEsha more info. I am not sure of what type of consumer protection you have in England so you may feel stuck with this problem. YOu might try to do a search of legal firms in your country against Samsung. They may exist. From what I have read, and I have read a lot about this issue with Samsung, the replacement of the two capacitors solves the problem. What no one knows is how long this fix is good for! Use caution in replacing capacitors you can do more harm than good.

  • also geek squad can be so awful...i'm worried of taking that risk...

  • @stop08it I understand your concern. Geek Squad will charge you $150 up front just to look at your set. Then, they charge for parts. Capacitors are cheap, really. A motherboard will cost you $220 plus a $30 Geek Fee for making a return repair visit to your home. Even Samsung, when they send their maintenance company will charge you $300 if they do not find swollen capacitors. This is an evil company.

  • i will pay for the servicing and whatever they need to replace....will be saving the receipts and will add my name to the class action lawsuit...thanks...

  • just got off the phone with an exec rep and she basically told me my tv was not found to have the bad capacitors (or whatever the heck it is) and that the tv just wore out...AFTER 3 YEARS (bought june 2008) but it's having the same exact problem....and i'm supposed to just accept this....it's crap...

  • @stop08it Welcome to the frustrating and deliberate world of Samsung! They have known for years that the capacitors were undersized. They have also deliberately treated people differently over the same issue and THAT is their greatest error. I purchased my TV just like you. My television was in that 2008 era. Samsung responded differently to me because I complained to my State Attorney Generals Office. Have you tried to file with yours?

  • Please join the class action lawsuit. Your situation is why this lawsuit will eventually win. We will not make a ton of money on this but perhaps you will receive the same gift certificates that I did. I actually went and purchased a new LG HDTV with Samsung's gift cards. I will NEVER purchase any device that carries the brand name of Samsung because of the way they have treated us.

  • @nvdwarriorLtc how do you join a class action suit? Honestly, i live with my parents and i'm just helping them with this...so I have to convince my dad about all this. He's the type to just pay for repairs without really wanting to go through any hassle...

  • @stop08it go to Abington Cole Lawfirm on the internet and select the class action lawsuit section. They have a form to fill out, very simple and bingo you will be a member of the lawsuit. I know that they are rapidly building a large number of people who have suffered our pain. Are you in the US? If in the US, use your state attorney generals office. For some reason, You Tube will not allow me to post their internet address.

  • @nvdwarriorLtc Thank you so much so much for taking the time to answer all my questions. I really appreciate it sir!!!

  • Thanks man I just got off the phone with samsung and they do not even cover my mdoel hpt4254 for the capacitors while admitting they know of the probleI joined the class action suit today

make sure your viewers go to abingtonlaw and click class action at the top

  • extended warrenty 4years $58 worth the money same problem they are going to replace the power supply board

  • the first two cap's were the beginning of the chain. It might be more... If you confident soldering boards, you could of fixed this problem yourself for about $15 - $20 dollars... Sorry you got the run around. I have to do my tv today. I can solder, mine is out of warranty... In any event, Shame on Samsung...

  • I have on/off problem on my LN52A750R1FXZA after 2-year of work. now it's dead for 1 more year. My power supply board is absolutly good and t-con board is good (i replaced that to verify it). Main board is expensive and i asked for advise from justanswer(.)com. Their most TV-expert solution was that LCD panel is dead and i can dispose my TV. People pay for such advises but i know for sure my lcd panel is ok because i am better expert just had no TV experience before.

  • Hello from Mass. My Samsung LN52 is also two years old and has started the on/ off cycle. I will join the Class Action Lawsuit. Thanks.

  • @Wastingtime5 Don't give up demand to talk to a higher level supervisor. The executive level CSR and don't stop calling. They will eventually admit to the inferior capacitor problem and should send out a maintenance team to replace them at no cost to you. Even though its over 2 years old. The danger here, is that if they don't find bad capacitors they may charge you $300. Be careful, ask questions, then sue them for the aggravation.

  • Another update if I may. You might start reading comments from folks on other sites concerning Samsung defects, Buzz Media is one. Careful. The latest scheme seems to be Samsungs repair people will replace up to 5 of the capacitors and tell you that the reason Samsung will not cover the motherboard is because WE THE CONSUMER have caused that failure by trying to turn the set on and off repeatedly. Apparently, failure to replace the capacitors quickly will result in MOTHERBOARD DEATH.

  • Abington Cole Lawfirm is handling the class action lawsuit. Join today!

  • @nvdwarriorLtc Abington Cole is located in Tulsa Oklahoma. Please google their website and you can find an online application for the Samsung lawsuit.

  • I'm a tv engineer in the uk, when the capacitors fail they can corrupt stored date on the mother board giving the same effect even after changing the caps, this is also repairable no need to replaced with a new mother board, i repair these boards every week, basically if you use the tv to the point it wont switch on any more chances are you will need the mother board repairing as well as the power supply.

    andyselectronicstuff

  • @andyselectronicstuff

but may something fail in samsung MB due to heat? or may soft settings cause this tv cycling on/off because some electrical parameters had degraded with time? i see that samsung design is poor. i can judge because i am electronics designer myself, in the past, though now i do not even have oscilloscope. if i also had schematics, finding the problem would be trivial for me. if i designed such box i would make its self-diagnostics w/o much cost added.

    Pls answer if possible.

  • There is a new group formed on Facebook that deals with the Samsung clicking noise and power issues. Try searching facebook, but be careful, half of the sites that come up belong to Samsung and they will NOT give you any useful information. In fact, several posts I have made on those sites were removed because I mentioned the class action lawsuits. Corporate terrorism at its best. They don't want the word to get out on this law suit!

  • Just an update, the television continues to work fine after replacement of the motherboard and the capacitors (Now over 3 months). The class action lawsuit continues to grow in size...please sign up if you are having the same problem with your inferior Samsung product.

  • Gester my canadian friend! Since my family comes from the Maritimes....please visit the link I have posted. Even though you are in Canada, I don't know why an American law firm that is filing the class action law suit can't help you. Your capacitors should have been covered by samsungs extended warranty just to replace those know defects. Send me your email address to nvdwarrior@yahoo.com and I will send you the law firms address.

  • DON'T LET SHAMSUNG SHAMYOU !!

  • Update, 4-12-2011. Just received a call from the Samsung Consumer Service Representative in New Jersey on behalf of the Samsung President. It appears they had received my complaint through the Massachusetts Attorney Generals Office, Department of Consumer Protection. They are sending me a $200.00 Best Buy gift certificate to ease my pain of the power on power off problem with my HDTV. I can keep this inspite of the class action lawsuit! God bless america.

  • Another update if I may. In addition to the class action lawsuit, I strongly recommend that you file a complaint with your Attorney General's Office in your state. In Massachusetts the AG will forward your complaint to their Consumer Assistance Council who will attempt to mediate with Samsung on your behalf. In New Jersey, Samsung is currently issuing gift certificates to Lowe's to appease their angry customers.
