Man the dx7 (well dx5 in this case) has some more awesome sounds than todays boring same sounding minimoog rip off sounds they use today in like pop and RnB music today.
I sold my DX5 about 3 years ago and have regretted it. I have a Kurzweil PC2X, which is great for pienos and strings...but the synth sounds are not even close to the "5". I had some really great FM Rhodes patches using both of the synth engines. Find the manual on line and learn the beast. You'll never regret it.
@AnthonyTheMr Are you kidding? No use for a DX5? You could almost rule the world with this flexible FM synth! Have you ever tried to load just a few of the millions of free patches from the internet into your machine and then layer them? Send the signal through a little effects processor (for chorus, delay, reverb, phaser, flanger etc.) and you will be happy again. The DX5 must be worth about double as much as the old DX7 (around 500 EUR or something, collectors pay even more).
@sauermusicDE Oh hurray thanks for the reply. Oh and apparently I just 'found' this in my closet. There's no manual or anything, so I'm quite lost to what to do with it or how to use it as well.
However, I'm having a garage sale soon, so I'm probably going to sell it to actual players ... any thoughts?
@AnthonyTheMr I'd find a manual online for that thing, and then learn how to use it before you go and sell it blindly and probably regret it later. Seriously. The DX5 is a helluva synth.
@AnthonyTheMr If you still have the DX5, email me, I may have a copy of the owners manual. Since the DX5 is basically 2 DX7's in one keyboard, you will need an original DX7 manual. If I remember correctly, the manual for the DX5 just covers the areas that are speciaol to the keyboard.
I still have one of these. Locked away in a friend's attic though (he has the space, I do not). Really nice machine. Basically two DX7s in one box, with a 76 note keyboard.
truly wonderful sounds. more!

Ooh I have this model. It's... quite old. Are they worth anything? I don't seem to have any use for it.

@rockawayy
only on the DX-7 MkIId and fd,... but if you install the grey mater E! or the super max,..then you have a 16 part multi-timbral dx7 ;-)

Gotta love the Yamaha DX series.
I used a TX816 for years (still do) and would kill for a DX1

saw one on gumtree the other day surprised that it was only £3000 gbp. But a dx5 is basically a dx1 with a hair cut
LF0 2 years ago
and the dx7II fd is a DX5 with another hair cut (and some tatoos...)
