I think this song is about making the most of today because life does pass by in a flash. Also, there are references to the things that are very wrong with society. "Those left standing will make millions writing books on the way it should have been". - I guess that's a reference to historians who will look back at the past which was once the present and comment on the very problems that led to the collapse of everything.

@kadz200 The meaning behind the video is the ancient Mayan belief that the world will end, or some sort of cataclysmic event will occur, on December 23rd, 2012 at 10:24 a.m.... The girl in the video is trying to warn the world, live your life to the fullest because soon it will be all over. And I believe that's the meaning behind the song. In our time, it seems as if so many live their lives as robots... Just going through the daily motions.
