Our dog was a rescue from the local animal shelter, so we don't really know his heritage. However, we have always strongly suspected he was part N.S. Duck Tolling Retriever with some German Shepard (sharper nose, triangular ears that can stand straight up). I can see our dog in the dog in this video: energetic and a sheer goof-ball and so I am more convinced than ever that our dog is part Duck Toller. (But rather than merely cute as that dog was, ours is truly HANDSOME).
i have a toller, (same dog, short name) als it has more white than this one, it's rejected for dog shows because she has to much white and things like that, but she is much cuter than this one!
i have a dog that looks very similar to the nova scotia but she has short legs and ears like a border collie of where they're between being pointy & floppy she dosen't have a tail that's as fluffy as nova scotia when i first got her i thought she was possibly a mix between a lab and a dachshund
i have a dog this breed but its mixed with something we found her in a park and she is now all happy but the mix with her makes the breed better and cuter ^^
Very cute toller. Check out mine. : ) They ARE very special dogs. There aren't many here in Georgia. When I take her to petsmart, people are always asking, "what kind of dog is that?" When I tell them, noone has EVER heard of a duck toller, lol. She is just amazing.
When Duck Lay there Eggs Foxes Eat them And the mother Try to Save them by Going close to the fox And When the dogs are Running On the march they think there Foxes, and even if they don't have eggs they just do what females do attack witch brings them closer to shot ( But you have to Shot the Duck so it wont try to kill your dog it isn't Strong enough to kill it or hurt it bad most likely to kill the duck)
duck toller is the best! they are high energy dog, but they won't drive you crazy even if you skip a day or two of exercise. i have a 5 months toller. he's such a obedient and smart dog!
We just adopted a NSDTR. His name is Tipper and he's 10 years old. We have two other dogs, a 8 year old golden retriever and 12 year old greyhound. I need help with Tipper...I thought being 10 he would be an 'old dog' but he still has soooo much energy. The question I have is "how do you curb the barking"??? and along with that discovered that he also "digs frantically" any help, suggestions appreciated!
@TipperHall evrey time he barks (inside your home) punish him or just yell at him when my toller barks i say ''no'' very strict and loud it worked for me and my dog digs like crazy to but that doesn't realy matter to me
WOW!!! this program is genial!!! :-) and... i have a question, i have a dog, and i think what it's a nova scotia duck tolling retriever mix, what do you think?? you can look photos of my dog in a page what it is in my perfil ;-)
I'm REALLY interested in getting one of these dogs. I'm currently doing research and the breed seems to be a handful when it comes to exercise. I run daily and live near a river, BUT I do live in an apartment and am currently in college (so I'm busy quite a bit). What are your opinions? Is this the right dog for me?
If you feel like you have the time to devote to a high energy breed, this may be the dog for you. You need to assess your living conditions and make sure that your dog gets the great life that he deserves. You can have high energy dogs in apartments, but remember that that means you may have to spend several hours exercising the dog. Make sure that you can provide the dog with this or you will have a HUGE problem on your hands. Please do your research before you commit to the dog!! Good luck!!
i own one but the dog will cost you alot of money because they are rare but they are very luving and caring and are really gud dogs but yes they can be a handful but its worth it becuz they luv u a ton
Don't know if you're allready made your choice: but these dogs are not like a standard dog, they need a long walk everyday and besides that you have to train with them (there mind you know =))
So if you can do that every day, why not? But mayby not a puppy but a grown up dog?
i love this breed!!! i have a 1 yr old male Duck-tolling retriever. he is 21 inches to shoulder and wieghs 55 lbs. his fav thing to do is chase the chickens every morning at feeding time. i only have 2 chickens so he thinks hes the boss of the "pack". his name is Guide.
Wrong. I assumed you were right because videos like this usually are inaccurate sometimes but after checking out several websites, etc, even a rescue site, they all say "Little River Duck Dog". Plus, it makes more sense since the dog was created solely to attract ducks. Little River dog makes no sense.

The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, or Toller for short, is one of the most unusual breeds of gundog, at least in terms of how the dog works.
Summervineable 2 years ago
do they shed a lot

They sure do! They blow their coat seasonally and love to get messy! Not a dog for the house proud. :)
