It was pretty good. The script got in the way but you were very good. I'd drop the English accent though. It's set in Italy. But for the love of God don't do it in Italian either...that NEVER sounds good!! Go with your normal voice. As they say..." non regional ." It sounds more natural and it adds to the timeless quality to not set any identifiable accent. As actors we always want to do accents to show that we can. It's just an accent. Know when to say " No ".
Nic, they (toffas1 ) were probably asking cuz the red lipstick, which by my experience, is worn by alot of goths back in the day. For the most part now, goths are few and far between (in my opinion, "thank Goodness)!
I'm looking to do a monologue of romeo&Juliet titled 'But,Soft' and cause he looks at her window in an audition how would i perform this to the audience much help please as i really want to audition for something and i got about 7 days thanks.
@Searching4Sid Hmmm, not sure. Maybe look up (in the direction of the audience, but not too much that they lose your face & voice) while reciting the monologue. Good luck! :)
Hi, Im an aspiring actress and I actually did this monologue for my drama class last year. What I want to say to you is good job. It takes a lot of courage to post a video of you on the web and allow millions of people to look at it and comment. Advice: If you havent memorized the lines, find a way to post it next to the camera to give the illusion that you're looking into the camera. Remember Juliet is a teen alone in her room thinking out loud. Practice. I think you should try it again.
@Cynda3 you seem good at this stuff i would like to know how i would perform Romeo&Juliet 'But,Soft' monologue to the audience because he looks at the window do i pretend i'm looking at a window and talk?
@Searching4Sid Yes. That's exactly what you do. Find the person center of the audience and find a spot on the wall a couple inches above their head. This way the audience will be able to see your face and all the emotions portrayed.
I didn't hate the accent actually. But yeah, you need more work. It wasn't fantastic. But it wasn't horrible either. Just keep working on it and you could be great :)
I hope you received acting classes since this. Acting is about being believable and this was not. It doesn't matter that it was the first time either, as long on your taking each line off the page you just simply 'express it'. Best of Luck to you!
ya, you shouldn't use a British accent. And you should speak louder (that's okay, i have that problem two) and remember Juliet is 14. It was good for your first time. My other advice would be to read the whole play if you haven't it. It will give you a better idea of what Juliet is feeling.
i agree with what the guy said below, everything he said was right, and yes, this is arguably the most overdone monologue for women, though unfortunately its not a coincidence because there only a handful of good monologues like this for women characters in shakespeare.
First, when you don't have a British accent it is ALWAYS a bad idea to use one for Shakes. Second, you should probably memorize your lines, maybe that's why you had trouble looking at the camera. Third, you need to be more physical, or if you're going to sit down do it with energy. Fourth, it is clear you don't know what Juliet is saying. She is not trying to be seductive. She is love struck, angry and frustrated. Fifth, this monologue is THE most overdone monologue at Shakespeare auditions.
@shapeprincess Thanks! :)

@dhenchers No I haven't had the money to do that yet. I plan on it someday though.
JadeVamp1986 1 year ago
No, with Shakespeare the characters always either speak to another person or to their audience. They NEVER talk to themselves.

remember you are supposed to be 14 and do not do an accent. She also is speaking to herself during this scene not to him so also remember that.

youre doing it wrong.
shakespeare dont read line by line
we read by sentences
so you go on until the sentence end, not stop at each line
