you should read the book Madam Valentino,Natacha Rambova ,aka Winifred Kimball Shaughnessy, aka WINK ! By Michael Morris! It will cast a new light on the Mystery 2nd wife of Valentino!
“Rudolph Valentino had an air of sadness. He wore his success gracefully, appearing almost subdued by it. He was intelligent, quiet and without vanity, and had great allure for women, but had little success with them, and those whom he married treated him rather shabbily. . . No man had greater attraction for women than Valentino; no man was more deceived by them."”
@msrudyfan 3 Abortions? Cite your source, please. George Ullman's book is what is known as a smear campaign against a strong headed woman and there's not much truth to it. He went head to head with her many times and lost. Very humiliating for a movie exec in the roaring '20s. Of curse he didn't like her.
@anderdorm George Ullman, Rudy's manager, wrote a book that was published in October, 1926, 2 months after Rudy's death. He says in his book that the photos of Natacha accurately portray her personality--she wasn't a happy or cheerful person. I think she looks bitchy, bored or angry most of the time. She conceived 3 of Rudy's babies and aborted all 3 of them because she didn't want children, knowing that he desperately did. This is just wrong.
Don't want to ruin it but Patricia Neal said Acker told her Rudy had "the clap". Don't know what the treatments were back then but I think they had them. Could this have had something to do with their relationship? I love Rudy and hope he was cured. Always wondered if the remedy could have affected his health. Do you know anything about this? RIP Rudy, much love.
@Kathylouu JA told her lesbian girlfriend this about Rudy, claiming he told her this. He had sexual relationships with many women, and none of them ever said he infected them. They had treatment for gonorrhea then, which was not as effective as today's treatments, but it still worked most of the time, so I think it's likely he was cured. There are several web references to the history of STD treatments in the pre-antibiotic days.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for your comment, I was so hoping this video would evoke the emotional shadow play that was cast over them so soon in their marriage; you are more than right, she really DID let a good thing pass her by (the MORON!).
@ForseItalia I am sooooo glad to hear from you! You've been missed around here!!!! Your vid did evoke what you set out to make it do! MORON is a tame word for Nat! I've saved it to my computer to watch later, I hope you don't mind me doing that. My net is cut off so I've tried to save all the good vids so I can watch them when I have free time :) I'm at my moms house using her computer now but I'm trying to keep up with things here too. Keep in touch darling! I've missed you!!!!
Such a beautiful couple. Too bad they were mismatched. I think Rudy deserved better, but I also think he did not want anyone else. Were those movie clips really of Natasha?
How terribly sad that the woman whom he loved never really cared for him at all. I often think how lonely and bereft he must have been when she left him sitting in that huge house he had prepared for their life together. I think he just gave up and let his health go, he just didn't care anymore. All the women he was with used him for their own career or for money. I get angry every time I think about it, my heart just breaks.
I agree with you, but at the same time I'm starting to realize how complex their relationship was given the fact that there were these "outside stressors" that a lot of relationships didn't have, I think there is more to the story than even I once thought. Even so, I think she did some shitty things and it hurt him tremendously, but I read something she wrote about him and their life together, so slowly she is gaining some cred from me personally, though I don't LOVE her yet.
@ForseItalia There is no evidence Valentino ,being a queer ever really loved that impostor.I, think her real family name was Smith. The Russian name came out of her imagination as in those days was fashionable pretend to be an exiled Russian Aristocrat in exile. She was a full time lesbian who did not care for any man.
Valentino and Rambova were both straight and her last name was Shaughnessy-Hudnut. She used a Russian name, because she was a professional ballet dancer and they all used Russian names. Please get your facts straight before posting ignorant comments.
Valentino wasn't queer and Rambova (Winifred Kimball Shaughnessy) wasn't too. Many have speculated about this, but no evidence has ever been given.
All Rudy's friends, even from his childhood, said he was heterosexual, and Rambova is not in the list of of Alla Nazimova's lesbian actresses , because she was not homosexual.
Their relationship was complex, because they were not simple characters, but in their own way they loved each other.
@ForseItalia Have you read George Ullman's book? If so, you wouldn't like her at all. George says that Rudy loved her unconditionally, but he's not sure she ever loved him. He never saw her behave affectionately toward him, and she frequently insulted him and verbally abused him in front of people. He calls her "egotistical" and said that after United Artists made it clear she couldn't set foot on their property and she couldn't use Rudy to achieve her ambitions, she was through with him.
Natasha wanted to become this huge movie producer. In my opinion, she didn't have it in her to be that "big". She used Rudy for her own purpose (from what's been written). She just didn't know what she had!!! This great man could have had nearly any woman he wanted, but he loved and cherished her.
@DobbyJunior Many tried hunting for one. Some producers scanned the country and other places looking for someone similar. None were found. They found a few similar in appearance but none that had that special smile, grace mixed with masculinity that Rudy had.
Rudy loved her and hoped that she would have had his children and be an at home wife. He must have realized that it would be an impossibility with Natasha, but still his heart and soul loved her till he died. I read he died alone with no one with him. That is such a heartbreaking thought. He was so beloved by so many, yet never had the peace and contentment he so sorely wanted. Rest in Peace you beautiful charming man. I am sure you must know now how much loved and missed you are even yet
Yep, I sure did notice that right off the get go!! I wish she invested more time in learning what it was like to be a TRULY dignified, and humane individual like she invested the time it took to pin those Leia buns on the sides of her head. It was plain to everyone she didn't respect him as just Rudy, and not even as Rudolph Valentino. I think all she ever really saw was Mr. Meal Ticket. Thanks for your insight, and have a good one!! Monique :oD
Natacha was a better wife to him than the first one,she was just a money grubbing lesbian, who married him for his money, and so she could call herself Mrs. Valentino. She wouldn't even spend their wedding night together with him.Talk about a user bit*h!
I totally AGREE!! For such a sensitive person, I think he was just naturally drawn to the polar opposite of himself...even though what he really wanted and yearned for was gentlness and kind understanding. Let's hope ol' Rudy has that now!! Thanks for commenting, and have a great day!
You know I used to hate Natacha too, but then I read her book on her life with Rudy and the Michael Morris biography on her and my view of her changed majorly. You should read them. They show a much different person than what Rudy biographies written by people who never knew him or Natacha wrote. Nor did these biographers live during Rudy's time.
HEYYY DOBBY!!! Sorry for the delay in answering you back...how could I have been too busy to talk to you, when you are THE BEST!!! Thanks for all the love and hope you are well and you are STILL one of my favorite characters!!
Aaaahhh! YES! I'd do that, too! His sweet face begging me to have mercy! I would be super gentle then do something to shock him. I might give him tears but also wipe them away.
If I were Natacha, I would have tied him up and done all kinds of things to him. I'll bet she did,...they say she was kinda "bent". The very thought makes me want to scream!
Rudy and Natacha..so in love ..so sad..the clip of them saying goodbye at the train has been documented as being the last time the two saw each other as Rudy died shortly thereafter. You can see the love just ooze between them in that clip.I like this video, the music, the timing, the subjects. Very well done. Bravo!
Hey there, thanks so much for liking my videos and for saying such cool things, it really makes me feel good to know there are such great people in the world that have such great taste for loving Rudy; thanks for lovin him!!!!
This beauty of yours never fails to make me cry and that hauntingly beautiful piccy at 2.01 has always been my most favourite of the two of them together.Superb, my dear lady!I'm sooo glad to see you back ~ xoxoxo
Wow! Where did you find movie footage of Natacha? Is it from "When Love Grows Cold"? Where did you find it? There are also a couple of photos that i hadn't seen before, like the one of Rudy at 1:48. Good job! I love it!
HEYYY GUYS!!! THANK YOU for all your wonderful comments, I'm so sorry it takes me a while to answer or I get side-tracked...I've just been so busy. Anyways, I wanted to say I love you guys and wanted to let you know I got clips of WLGC on Rudy's new DVD with Stolen Moments. It was a great EXTRA!!
I cannot thank you enough for posting footage up of Natacha! I've always wanted to see what she looked like on film/moving etc. and not just pictures! I also wonder what her voice sounded like! And also thanks for making a video for her, I wanted to so badly but I don't have the stuff to make 1 on my comp.
