This was very informative! But I still have some questions I was wondering if you could answer. Is it rare for Harvard to accept more than one student from a certain area? And if so, why? Also, if you are not sure what to major in for college yet, and thus do not know what to do to "reflect" that, what would you suggest doing? I do have interests, such as art and government and politics, and thus that is why I act on those interests. Is it possible to know if I'm going in the wrong direction?
@DarkSailormoonie Answers: 1. No. Why do you think so? 2. A lot of the students are, in fact, not sure what to major in. Do whatever interests you currently. That is not a problem - people change their minds all the time. Doing anything seriously is better than doing nothing. Art/Government/Politics are all good things to be involved in. But for more ideas, ask your teacher/adviser. Good luck and best wishes,
@aditya6196 Find out yourself. If you cannot, you are not going to go to Harvard. Harvard does not admit students who need spoon feeding all the time. That's a reality even though, I know, it sounds harsh.
@kimbhut65 Alright, Here is my doubt straight forward, When you said "Applications for the class of 2015", Does it mean that the applications for the class of 2013 will not be accepted? I have looked in the harvard website and many other websites, but it doesn't give a clear picture.
@aditya6196 In America, class of 2015 means the class who will GRADUATE in 2015. These students were admitted in Harvard College in 2011. One has to attend the college for 4 years to graduate. Clear? GOOD LUCK.
@kimbhut65..hi!my caps lock problem with the keyboard has been fixed......now my question is...unlike my brother.....that...what is the cost of studying in Harvard from India as my family's annual income is Rs.12,00,000.Please reply....and oh yes!are there any Indians who actually did go to Harvard for a Bachelorate degree from India?
@rituparno100 Scores of Indian students are admitted to Harvard College each year. (Few Bengalis though - I wonder why. May be they talk much and do little?) But Harvard needs initiative. You don't seem to have that. Those who go to Harvard do their own research! They do not rely on a YouTube video uploaded by an individual and not by Harvard!!!
@kimbhut65 thanks..oh yes!i do visit the harvard.edu website..for info, requirements, projects that the students work on and the type of professors they work with..thanks for your help sir...i surely will look into the matters you pointed out.Thank you
I am definitely going to Harvard. After watching this video, I am now starting to work very hard for the next 3 1/2 years of high school to make it into Harvard.
@FSXman456 Excellent! That should be the spirit. I feel my effort is motivating a lot of youngsters like you. That was my goal for creating this video. Please subscribe to my channel and look for more informative videos in the future. God bless you.
@kimbhut65 As a 14 year old, I was awarded a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition (for hard work) from U.S. Congressman, Thaddeus Mccotter. Would this look good on the Harvard application? Also, I'm a Pakistani living in the U.S. Would this give me a boost? Lastly I have a strong passion for business and finance, but unfortunately I'm not sure what extracurriculars I should plan to do. Any advice would be much appreciated.
1. Yes, definitely. 2. Not sure, may be. 3. I don't know, ask your teacher or adviser. I think you should try to do apprentice work in a business or financial organization. But for admission in Harvard College any good extracurricular will do. Try to do something relevant to your ultimate goal.
I did not delete your comment after all! I just could not find it quickly. Sorry for the confusion.
@kimbhut65 I Am VERY VERY AMBITIOUS ABOUT MEDICINE AND SURGERY..........I AM VERY AMBITIOUS AND BELIEVE I WILL GET IN HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL....EVEN IF I HAVE TO STUDY DAY AND NIGHT!!!........THANK YOU SOO MUCH......OH! I AM 14.... AND AM INTO CHARITY,LITERACY DRIVES AND AWARENESS PROGRAMS.....ALSO I HAVE EXCELLENT RECORDS IN ACADEMICS(AVERAGE GRADE IS "A")....ALSO IN PERFORMING ARTS...I AM FROM INDIA....SIR CAN I GET INTO HARVARD?
@rituparno100 First of all, never write in all CAPS! Secondly, Harvard Med School is a different ball game. Find out its requirements first and prepare accordingly.
@bzhang00 Yes, I do and I have mentioned that in my video. If you haven't got it, see the video again and again. Here is a clue: you have to be SMART to get into Harvard. :)
@bzhang00 Not necessarily. They look for your OVERALL BRILLIANCE IN ACADEMICS, EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, PLUS OUTSTANDING TEACHER EVALUATIONS. All three factors are EQUALLY IMPORTANT!
This is a great video. I am a Sikh student in NY and my 9th and 10th grade was not going well. Now I am focused on studying and my grades are mostly A and A+ in some subjects. I also participate in athletics but I'm not very good at it. Do u think I have a chance of getting accepted by harvard
@argo117007 Keep trying. You still have time to improve and prepare yourself for Harvard. Keep a positive attitude and work hard. Success will come with determination. Best wishes and good luck,
Hello. In the beginning of high school, from 9th-10th grade, I wasn't completely focused on my grades, and it reflects on my GPA. I understand, as you've mentioned in the video, that Harvard looks for consistently strong grades. My view of my education has changed, and now I am almost a straight A student.. but my accumulative GPA is still relatively low (2.9 something). I've done some calculations and it's only possible to reach a 3.23 by grad. Do you think I still have a chance?
@IVMoMoIX Honestly speaking, I don't know. But I think Harvard gives more importance to your last 2 years in school. Make sure your SAT scores are excellent, you get great evaluations from your high school teachers, and you have outstanding records/experience in non-academic activities as I have emphasized in my video. Good luck and best wishes,
hello sir, proud to say a fellow indian made me feel a bit better about my chances. I still don't feel too good about them, though, because the rate of admissions is very low, especially for asians.
@icebird753 Harvard has scores of Indian students besides Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc. East Asian students. Over the years Indian student population has increased by leaps and bounds. Just keep a positive attitude and work hard to achieve your goal. :)
@marcisthabest I know you are not a junkie. But if you want Harvard to recognize your skills as a comedian. I am afraid you have to sharpen your skills a lot. You really have to stand out over other comedians like you. ;-)
thank you! I really really want to go to harvard. one question: I live in Amsterdam and I make money trading in marijuana, will Harvard judge me for this?
My apologies for spamming again, I accidentally made my comment too long.
Anywho, what I was trying to say was this: Although I am only thirteen, I study hard and do my best in extracurricular activities. High school is my focus at this point, but I cannot help but look into my (potential!) future.
@KaiKlee238 I can smell you have the potential for Harvard. No, A+ is not mandatory for all classes (though it will improve your chances of getting in). Harvard looks for overall brilliance in academics along with other factors (including teacher recommendation) I mentioned in the video. Stay focused in your goal and keep working hard. You will get in.
Thank you so much for posting this video! There is tons of advice here that will stick with me for life.
One question-- when you mention "exceptionally brilliant" grades, or something along the lines of that, is there a particular grade? Being in the A range is a no-brainer, however, is an A+ mandatory for all classes? Would it be alright if I had, say, three classes with an A+, two classes with an A, then one with a high (94-ish) A-?
I do wish to get into Harvard one day, and although I am
I'm an international student from india and I want to know if harvard considers students who are ranked among the top 10% of the students in their class but have average grades?
hi there, im 13 years old and i want to get accepted into harvard. i usually get nothing less than a B and normally get A's. I have tkaen up programming and animation. i am also good at sports. do you have any advice that would help me get accepted or anything i can do at my age to ensure a place in harvard or any other good university?
@FireVortex720 Try to excel in academics and sports (or any other extra-curricular activities). Also get as much work experience (including volunteer work) as possible. That's all I can say. You are young enough, so you have time to work towards your goal. But your best advice should come from your teacher (student adviser) and your parents. Good luck and best wishes,
@yeaitwasme You have to find that answer from Harvard's websites or write to Harvard. So far I know, they treat every student equally. You may have to furnish some additional info if you are an international student. That part will also likely be included in the online application.
@nadeemstine See the video again. Then go to Harvard's website to find out about exact fees and other charges. Remember, if you have TALENT, Harvard WILL help you with money if you happen to come from a low-income family. That is what is STRESSED in the video. :)
Thanks so much for this video. We enjoyed it very much.We have sent this on to our Grandson who will be applying to McGill in Montreal. He wants to be a Doctor and will be absolutely superb as one.
