I had Judy Engel as my 11th grade math teacher in the 1958-59 school year. This was one of her first years teaching, and I thought she was disorganized and didn't maintain class good control. Yet the initial elements of her innovative teaching methods were very much present, even in those early years.
I ended up with 91 on the 1959 Regents, the toughest ever given up till then, so she obviously did a lot right, even if I didn't appreciate it at the time.
Judith Engel was my algebra teacher at Bronx Science for the school year 1965-66, many years ago now. She continues to be a vibrant person and I'm glad to count her as a good, devoted, friend!
