This part of the movie and even the music always gives me chills. This scene, far more than with "Superman" really made me know what it might feels like to fly
The flying scenes were great in this movie. The work from the late 70's and 80's were some of the best on film. The fact that they gave Supergirl and slightly more gentle and freespirited flying look was perfect. The Goldsmith soundtrack is just timeless to hear.
I agree! The Superman films of the late 70s and early 80s compared with Superman Returns, the flying looks so much more natural and lyrical because the actor is actually doing the landing/ take off/ flying rather than a digital cartoony performance!
I never saw Supergirl, but, I grew up with Christopher Reeve's Superman. Why did they have Supergirl fly with her arms outstretched, instead of straight ahead like Superman?
@sdkjhsdglih Never ever play COH or Champions Online, mate, because you noticed that, which they never did. Superheroes who fly generally reach their arms forward, OR put them out to the side like a plane, never at their sides
@sdkjhsdglih If I suddenly got the power to fly, I'd fly carefree like that as well for a while, just enjoying the shit out of being able to fly. Once I got used to it, then I'd fly in a more conservative manner.
@sdkjhsdglih it was also supposed to be more of a glide when her arms were outstretched, but if you ever watch the movie, you'd see plenty of scenes where she flys with arms straight ahead.
Me and my sisters used to watch this NONSTOP! I LOVED her flight scene it always looked so real to me and sooooo exciting! It was soo cool how she came out of the pod! I thought Helen Slater was a great Supergirl, though I wasn't taken with the entire plot of the movie. And her costume, Now THAT is the way Supergirl should dress, not like the little trampy outfits they give her today. Great clip!
Wow! Check out those supertits!

Yeah , it was a real shame we didn't see Routh fly more. I though the parts where it was actually him on screen was sensational.

I like that they put the horses in. They definately know the target audience.

I don't know. Im guessing because Supergirl is portrayed as more youth spirited and carefree?

@sdkjhsdglih When she boosts speed she flies with either both arms back or with one arm outsretched like at the end of the video.

@sdkjhsdglih well, Superman is in his mid-thirties, while Supergirl was around seventeen or eighteen...maybe that has something to do with it.
