Wow. You seem to really know a lot about your doves. Could you answer my questions about mine? After I've done quite a bit a research, these are the answers I can't find:
1. Do you put the grit && gravel in the doves' food?
2. Could mine be so quiet because they're new to my home?
3. Can you easily tell the difference between males && females? ('Cause I got mine the the Humane Society && they used to be a breeding pair, but I can't tell which one's which.)
1- No you don't put girt and gravel in with the food, you need to put it in a separate bowl to the food and make it accessible tot he birds at all times. They eat very little grit and gravel so only provide a small amount and make sure to freshen it up regularly.
3- Theres no way sex pigeons that is 100% accurate. Males can be larger and coo more. Thier coo comes with a dance and fanned tail scapping the ground. They like to chase other pigeons. Girls can be smaller. They respond by dropping their wings when accepting a male. Some Breeders use the vent or hip bones to tell male or female. Male bones under tail close together. Females wider 1/2 inch. Watching behaviour is the best way to tell.
these pigeons are lovely i keep white pigeons and bred some this year which was great my neighbours hate them though pity these birds have such a bad rep did you breed many this year??
Not too many this year about a dozen, we had to move house and it tok the birds a while to settle down again. Both the neighbours we had before and the ones we have now love the birds. I think people tends to take to our birds better if we call them doves and not pigeons.
ur fantailed and garden doves they look so nice. i look after some fantailed dove from time to time i hold the chicks to the adult doves dont mind there r 4 chicks at and 7 adults and 4 eggs im well excited how many do u have btw i love ur cage thingy looks really smart ^.^
At the minute we have 5 white doves wwith 3 chicks and 5 fantails- no chicks but we have given away 16 this summer and are planning on getting some white homers in december for a wedding release business.

2- Yes, it takes new birds a while to settle into their new homes. Give them a few weeks to get used to you and their new house.
