I don't know much about her, but I wasn't feeling that! I was feeling the blonde locks (while singing about black pride) even less. God forbid if she has mixed kids!
lots of bozo's using this as an excuse to fire up the racist thing (yawn) & are missing the point that this is simply a superb song sung by a beautiful lady with a sublime soothing voice. For the record i'm white, loved reggae since I was old enough to listen & just PROUD to be a member of the human race. Was fortunate to pick this album up on cassette on my travels round Aus' in the early 90's & played it to death & still have it 20 years on.
Saw the one Kofi at the Jazz Cafe in Camden, London,( yesterday). Oh god she light up the house with this Antum ( her pronunciation) celebrating Black History month and everyone joined in. What a fantastic night it was. There should be more of our female lovers rock sisters concerts/shows. Well done! & Thanks to you Browningbbw for posting on u-tube.
@C0BO I had wanted to make the show but couldn't. But was chatting to the promoter at the after party last night where he said it was a great show. She's leaving the UK, so wishing her all the best in her new endeavours.
well this black white thing going on....... my moms white an my dads black so I cant babble bout it. I love the way god made me Im perfect as u all in his eyes!
Also, wenn ich bin stolz dass ich bin weisse dass ist ein grosse problem, rassismus, aber wenn du bist schwarz dass ist nicht ein problem, ist stolz. Fick dich! 14/88
Top drawer music from back in the day.Take your arguments on skin colour somewhere else and leave this corner for lovers of good music.. Thank you.. browningbbw, that's a massive job you've done.
Kofi (Carol) is my Mother. Thank you all for the positive and good comments. Look out for an album called Rocking Eternally. GREAT ALBUM by Kofi (Mum)
Nothing wrong with being proud of ones race/skin colour. Does'nt make you a racist unless thats who you want to be. This song is about empowerment and reversing the negative not supremecy.
Listen to it carefully. It is telling black people to be proud of who they are and be proud of where they came from. It was made at a time when there was such blatent racism and prejudiced in the U.K!!
@ELLABELLAMJ That is right! And there was no equal opportunity these times. I know coz Kofi is my mother and i too saw what she had to go through. Now look at the UK today. Peeps like my mum made a change to this country and its prejudice ways. It still goers on dont get me wrong but not as much as it was then.
well, im white but i wouldnt really say im proud to be white...same case if i were black. its just a shade of colour at the end of the day if you know what im saying lol. but yeah, i agree with what you said about the era and negativity towards black people. anyway, love this tune though and i LOVE kofi!
My sis went to school in the early 70's and there was lots of name calling and abuse black and mixed race people really were a minority where we lived. She and her friend used to listen to 'Young Gifted and Black' not be anti white but just to get through bad times We were treated like wewere inferior, these songs were born out of that experience.
i came to this site looking for a fight. the song and peoples text disarmed me completly. i hope you all experiance life to it's fullest potential. may the sun shine on youre faces and you feel loved each and every day you walk this earth with " pride" /cheers.
dreamssofblue. I think your comment is one of the most poignant here, as it shows a willingness to listen and understand and not to always take things at face value. Blessed love to you.
@browningbbw I think the message is a little confusing with the blonde hair and all. But I know each of us is at a different level of self love. Overall, the root of the message is very clear.

Thanks, Browning.. I am sure that I know you from somewhere. Do you control a website group? You must get in touch with me , we seem to have a lot in common..
re: kofi, fair comment, i agree with you. im just pissed off with all this PC bullshit thats around today ,the late 80s was a wicked time for this music, still love it but more into dub now and thats from a white guy

BLACK/WHITE/BROWN PRIDE. we are all proud for the world to see. KOFI is proud of being black and my sister in law is proud of being white.
I can't say that I am proud of being white as I am not white, but also if you listen to the song there are no extremisit views being sung.
I LOVE YOU KOFI underate artisit and a big lost for the UK music scene in the 80s an 90s not capitalising in artist like these for the world to hear.
Black is my colour of my skin and it will never fade.

love this but can you imagine a white woman saying the same thing about being white she would be called racist
peterwoodings38 2 years ago
I disagree. You should be proud of whoever you are and if you're proud of being white - all power to you.
I think you also have to put the track in the context of the era that it was released and what was going on at that time.
Tunes like this were and still are necessary to counteract the negativity that has surrounded the black UK experience.
browningbbw 2 years ago
A beautiful response BBBW! And spelt correctly too!
PS: I'm here on my son's account! He doesn't really get all this.
