  • I don't know much about her, but I wasn't feeling that! I was feeling the blonde locks (while singing about black pride) even less. God forbid if she has mixed kids!

  • sometimes i feel like blasting this im my car with the windows OPEN !!

  • What a beautiful song.

  • Went to black grape platinum suite last night and they played this tune, the crowd went crazy. Loving this tune forever.

  • @dennatrol81 Would have been there but had another event. Look out for Sir Georges lovers dance in the same venue on 10th December

  • @browningbbw Will do. Thx for that

  • i love this song, and if you are black you must hold your head up high and be PROUD

  • Definitely agree - this should be our Anthem! Some need reminding

  • This one goes to all the coloured mates i had in the Army, either through work or football

  • Beautiful song Beautiful voice - making me proud!!

  • lots of bozo's using this as an excuse to fire up the racist thing (yawn) & are missing the point that this is simply a superb song sung by a beautiful lady with a sublime soothing voice. For the record i'm white, loved reggae since I was old enough to listen & just PROUD to be a member of the human race. Was fortunate to pick this album up on cassette on my travels round Aus' in the early 90's & played it to death & still have it 20 years on.

  • whole album is a classic but this is the stand-out cut.

  • BIG TUNE!!

  • we have endured so much for hundreds of years!!.......this should our universal anthem....nuff said

  • been looking for kofi for the longest time i grew up on her and cant find her album anywhere soooooo THANK U!!!!! :D

  • I saw kofi performing this at the brent carnival many many many years ago I love this tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Big up Kofi. This tune is still blowing up the place. Big up black pride

  • this is the reason why I miss England, this is a true classic, big up to all my brit brothers and sisters...

  • this song, lyrics, PRODUCTION......very very special. Different level altogether.

  • BLACK/WHITE/BROWN PRIDE. we are all proud for the world to see. KOFI is proud of being black and my sister in law is proud of being white.

I can't say that I am proud of being white as I am not white, but also if you listen to the song there are no extremisit views being sung.

I LOVE YOU KOFI underate artisit and a big lost for the UK music scene in the 80s an 90s not capitalising in artist like these for the world to hear.

Black is my colour of my skin and it will never fade.

  • Saw the one Kofi at the Jazz Cafe in Camden, London,( yesterday). Oh god she light up the house with this Antum ( her pronunciation) celebrating Black History month and everyone joined in. What a fantastic night it was. There should be more of our female lovers rock sisters concerts/shows. Well done! & Thanks to you Browningbbw for posting on u-tube.

  • @C0BO I had wanted to make the show but couldn't. But was chatting to the promoter at the after party last night where he said it was a great show. She's leaving the UK, so wishing her all the best in her new endeavours.

  • @C0BO there are in a cafe which I'll get the name of in North London Finchley. Lover Rock all the big names. This week will be Omar.

  • Why is it when somebody is proud to be white, they are called racist? Also, worst song ever.

  • well this black white thing going on....... my moms white an my dads black so I cant babble bout it. I love the way god made me Im perfect as u all in his eyes!

  • ausome video

  • Kofi ist einfach toll!!! Ein Supergeiler Song!!!

  • i just discovered your channel and i'm loving it. thank you ms browning for such wonderful tunes

  • Also, wenn ich bin stolz dass ich bin weisse dass ist ein grosse problem, rassismus, aber wenn du bist schwarz dass ist nicht ein problem, ist stolz. Fick dich! 14/88

  • Isnt Kofi mixed race?

  • Comment removed

  • Top drawer music from back in the day.Take your arguments on skin colour somewhere else and leave this corner for lovers of good music.. Thank you.. browningbbw, that's a massive job you've done.

  • big tune bap bap bap brings bk memories man

  • I'm proud to be a White person.

  • @MrOscarWild And so you should be

  • Kofi (Carol) is my Mother. Thank you all for the positive and good comments. Look out for an album called Rocking Eternally. GREAT ALBUM by Kofi (Mum)

  • @simmzy80 am glad she is still singing when is the album out

  • @ANSELARAYE12 It is out already. but you may have to look for it coz its a seller!

  • @simmzy80 thank you

  • @simmzy80 your mother is so pretty she must be in a 40s now or late 40s

  • @ANSELARAYE12 Yes you are right she is. And still going strong!

  • @simmzy80 can u sing like your mother

  • Great, classic lovers vibes thiough prefer Brown Sugar version...

Nothing wrong with being proud of ones race/skin colour. Does'nt make you a racist unless thats who you want to be. This song is about empowerment and reversing the negative not supremecy.

    Thanks for sharing BBBW

  • didnt kofi sing with brown sugar!!

  • I'm not sure but i know Caron Wheeler of SoulIISoul was in it.

  • yeah she was in brown sugar, slammin tune though!!! real classic

  • @jazzfreak56 she did briefly.

  • @DollyMat Great speech! I agree! and Kofi is my mother.

  • Listen to it carefully. It is telling black people to be proud of who they are and be proud of where they came from. It was made at a time when there was such blatent racism and prejudiced in the U.K!!

    Brilliant record.

  • @ELLABELLAMJ That is right! And there was no equal opportunity these times. I know coz Kofi is my mother and i too saw what she had to go through. Now look at the UK today. Peeps like my mum made a change to this country and its prejudice ways. It still goers on dont get me wrong but not as much as it was then.

  • @simmzy80 it was the government dear not peeps like ur mother, fool

  • @clazza01 Its only a fool like yourself that needs to make a point by being disrespectful.

  • @ELLABELLAMJ

Well said....the only trouble is it still hasnt gone away, just bubbling under the surface!! no matter how far we think we've come!!

  • Lovers Rock par excellence. Love this to bits.

  • love this but can you imagine a white woman saying the same thing about being white she would be called racist

  • I disagree. You should be proud of whoever you are and if you're proud of being white - all power to you.

I think you also have to put the track in the context of the era that it was released and what was going on at that time.

Tunes like this were and still are necessary to counteract the negativity that has surrounded the black UK experience.

  • A beautiful response BBBW! And spelt correctly too!

PS: I'm here on my son's account! He doesn't really get all this.

    groovychick

  • Why thank you ;-)

And there's still time to work on your son lol

  • well, im white but i wouldnt really say im proud to be white...same case if i were black. its just a shade of colour at the end of the day if you know what im saying lol. but yeah, i agree with what you said about the era and negativity towards black people. anyway, love this tune though and i LOVE kofi!

  • @browningbbw Did you not just contradict yourself?

  • @browningbbw Did you not just contradict yourself?

  • @simmzy80 Just saw this...how?

  • Agree

  • My sis went to school in the early 70's and there was lots of name calling and abuse black and mixed race people really were a minority where we lived. She and her friend used to listen to 'Young Gifted and Black' not be anti white but just to get through bad times We were treated like wewere inferior, these songs were born out of that experience.

  • Absolutely, and that is what people sometimes don't get. What they see now is not how things were 2/3 decades ago. Walk a mile in my shoes...

  • i came to this site looking for a fight. the song and peoples text disarmed me completly. i hope you all experiance life to it's fullest potential. may the sun shine on youre faces and you feel loved each and every day you walk this earth with " pride" /cheers.

  • dreamssofblue. I think your comment is one of the most poignant here, as it shows a willingness to listen and understand and not to always take things at face value. Blessed love to you.

  • @browningbbw I think the message is a little confusing with the blonde hair and all. But I know each of us is at a different level of self love. Overall, the root of the message is very clear.

  • @browningbbw yeah i agree white power!

  • @dreamssofblue The video is a little confusing with the blond hair and all. I know we are all at different stages of self love. But the overall message is clear.

  • Head held high ALWAYS

    Big, conscious tune

  • This is beautiful...brings back memories! :-) Thank you browningbbw

  • very true. lol. but would you want to hear your old maths teacher singing the times table to you . i know i wouldn't lol xx

  • how comes i remember the words, like i heard it yesterday haha. browningbbw. what can i say . thankyou for making me smile . xx

  • I always say we should teach the children by song, they'd never forget their times tables then...

  • Yet another brilliant track that got to number 1 in the reggae charts and rightly so.

  • Thankyou so much browningbbw! I having been searching for this track for so many years, I'd given up hope!

  • Never give up hope!

    Real glad you found it

  • black an proud

  • @blackprideopi yeah i no right white power

  • Classic XX

  • my tune

  • Big Tune..Miss Browning your page a fire me a satta ya so fe now like white on rice.. Big Up

  • Check out kofi's myspace page. She has not changed a bit, still beautiful. Love this song

  • Beautiful track!

  • Is she from Brown Sugar?

  • Yes, she is. So sometimes you can see the track credited to just Kofi or to Brown Sugar.

  • Thanks, Browning.. I am sure that I know you from somewhere. Do you control a website group? You must get in touch with me , we seem to have a lot in common..

  • re: kofi, fair comment, i agree with you. im just pissed off with all this PC bullshit thats around today ,the late 80s was a wicked time for this music, still love it but more into dub now and thats from a white guy

  • Noted and did you know that Kofi is also mixed race, which again puts another slant on it!!

    But thanks for your comments.

  • True,True,True!!! The words say it all & thats why we have to be proud to be Black!!!! And another top tune again!
