  • nice work but please tell me how to make a script?

  • @omaromari1975

This is explained in Part 1.

  • I've searched a lot on youtube to find tutorials about "motion tracking" and "3Ds"... This is a really good tutorial for beginners!

I'm busy with a small project: I'd like to track a scene, import an object from SolidWorks into 3Ds and then rendering it into the "real world"... and this tutorial helped a lot! But I'm using Icarus to track...

  • so why do u need a camera tracking to make this?

  • Sorry i'm spanish, What's the web site you said on video? Thanks

  • this is sweet... it's been 2 years but im gonna ask a question anyway. can't we do this camera tracking on 3ds max? do we need synth eyes program?

  • @SercanSalkir

3DS Max does have this capability, however it is more awkward and imprecise compared to SynthEyes or another dedicated tracking application.

  • @troy2062 yeayy thanks a lot ^^

  • @troy2062 I mean, wmv

  • Hey pal, one problem with this for me is that it wont allow me to open up my video as you did on 3DSMax :(, when trying to open it up via the render tab, it simply wont let me open it, no error message, but when opening it up via the views tab etc a error mesage occurs saying, "No Driver to Handle Given File".. baha, would you still be able to track without the video sufficiently? although i can guess it would be alot harder, Thanks in advanced!

  • thank very munch.....

  • did u use a plugin?

  • haha.. seems like the camera tracking is useless~ hehe .. its only a fly thing... though ur were made a static building.. srry.. my english sux`

  • hey when i add a plane with matte material my video dissapears what can i do ?

  • grrrr when i go to get animation to merge it doesn't show any of my 3d max files and then i click all files and they show up.... but then when i click one of the files it says Oh Shit this file is improper... God damn shitty damn shit.

  • @cvb941 is this the same program as the first tut?:S

  • @cvb941

    Camtasia.

  • @troy2062 thanks for ur tutorial,it realy helped me!

  • @troy2062 Could you tell me what file extension does it have to be, I tried importing the avi. File that i have into background but it Max appaerently doesnt support it. Ill try reconverting to Mpeg1

  • what is that script for i dont understand?

  • it was very helpful thx very much

  • Great tutorial, I had been trying to work out for months how to get film footage into 3d max, excellent work.

  • Genial man, espero que sigas subiendo + tutoriales, un abrazo y muchas gracias.

  • how do u add shadows

  • @KoopsTV

Shadows can be produced using a plane with a Matte/Shadow texture applied.

  • @troy2062 can u please explain us about the other program that u use called synth eyes, what is it exactly for?

  • @troy2062 hey may i ask a quick ques..why did u chek the "animate background" chek box in that dialogue box, what it ll enable?thanks for possible help!

  • @lukaszy123

What I named "Script" was merely the exported tracking data from SynthEyes which I saved to the desktop.

  • were you referring to a 3D mesh as a "her"? haha, nice tutorial :)

  • @prallworks

Lol. Spending enough time on a WIP does that to you. xD

    Thanks ^^

  • The tracking points are completely useless if you don't use them.

Shore thay are visible but you don't use them.

  • @knapptor

The tracking points here are used, however the camera movement is a bit too slight for the result to be visible here. Even so, the methods outlined here are effective for just about any good quality source footage. :)

  • I know your probably sick of answering questions, but If I were to animate a 3D person, would I track the movements of a person the same way, and then just attach parts of the animated person to the corrisponding tracking points?

  • Always happy to answer :).

What you are asking is known as Motion Capture. SynthEyes does have this capability, however you would require several cameras recording at once from different angles, and visible (usually lit) capture points on the subject.

  • what if I just wanted to replace a real person with an animated one? It wouldn't work that way? couln't I put points on the feet, knees, chest , head and arms and just attach them to the 3d figure? Say you had 20 tracking points, you could attach 20 different models to every point right?

  • This would not work, as it would involve separate tracking layers for each limb and the result could not be translated into realistic movement. Each mesh would simply move independently.

  • Thanks for the tutorial on both video.

  • hi it seems like when you play the background footage the 3d object you put in there stays on one place and it looks like it doesn't need any script from syntheyes. What to do if you in to the same background instead of a plane add some building which need to stay on one place (like align object to the script)

  • Well done, Thanks for posting. You made it simple and explained it well.

  • for some reason my videos keep flashing black any idea why i have upladed a video example please help

  • Why when I import the data it don't give a plain or something so I'll know how to place my objects... it's kinda working but it's hard to place the extra elements..

    thanks mate

  • After you have imported the data from SynthEyes to Max (or another app), you can just drag out the planes as a guide.

Although I may have misunderstood your question.

  • When I place a plane or any other object it seems like I'll have to place it, rotate it and set it for the right perspective manually... no idea

  • Yes, that is what is required to align it correctly.

  • What do you use to capture your computer? I know its not camstudio...

  • I use Camtasia.

  • just one more question please how can you add shadows ??

  • You have to use the point guides as a reference and somewhat model the topography of the ground and objects in the footage, at least the ones you want to have a shadow cast over. You then give this a matte/shadow material, which will be rendered as invisible, but will cause the object to show shadows cast on the object, as well as made objects behind it appear invisible as well. This is how CG objects can appear "behind" objects in the footage. It is the very core of modern day film CG.

  • The best tutorial! thanks i was waiting so!!

  • 10x...will try and if i can get it to work will post response ;)

  • hey...nice work !

but background seem so 2d.. can it be done with totaly rotation of camera around x , y and z axis?

downloading program now and will try it ;)

  • Once you don't go overboard with insanely random motion at low resolution, you can do perfect 3D tracking :).

  • whats the song called?

  • The music is "Clubbed To Death" by "Rob Dougan".

  • the craft has way to menny verticees or pints tou should use less and it would give a beter effect play well and render faster, uther than that it was good

  • The lagging playback is just a result of the low capture framerate. In reality, the mesh performs perfectly, at around 190fps+ in the viewport, and rendertimes are very short (about 3 seconds).

  • no the video itself is good i mean that using less polygons can make a beter modle uther than that the video is realy good. you did a good job

  • Yes, I was talking about the Exceeder mesh also :)

  • At last!!!! thanks verry much!

  • Hell yeah! Thanks so much for part 2! Also, thanks for the shoutout! =)

I plan on posting my tracking tests in the near future and i'll be sure to let you know so you can see what you've helped me achieve!

Once again, awesome stuff my friend and thanks alot!

  • Glad I was able to help you =].
