Hi- I've used this technique, but on a library pocket on the free endpaper. I was able to remove after 3 damp paper towel applications but the paper is rippled. I am wondering if possibly my towel was too damp (I don't think so, because I patted between dry towels thoroughly) or this technique shouldn't be used on the free endpapers.
Thanks so much for demonstrating this! I've got a 1st edition/1st printing of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone with an address label inside the front cover that I have been wanting to remove. Now I can!

Clearly, this is for those who dislike nameplates,but tend to agree with the view that a bookplate is part of the book's history.
Indeed, depending on the circumstances, a bookplate may increase it's value considerably.
