  • We have to realize that women are becoming the new man. More women are entering the work force, getting their master's. Although this does not depict all the women around the world we see it in many developing worlds and in America. Probability of women making more than men is becoming very high because of these breakthroughs and ends of vicious cycles that she talks about in the video. The roles of men and women are being switched, this can definately be looked at in a positive and negative way

  • On US Aid. 0.7% of the GDP is given as aid to 'developing' countries. Half of that goes to support Israel and cause the atrocities that are happening in the Middle East. A lot of American citizens are good people with warm hearts and donate a lot of money to good causes. Don't speak to me about US Aid though, the net effect of Americans as a whole on the globe is resoundingly negative

  • This is real Feminism. The people teaching 'feminism' in American universities probably need to give up teaching middle class brats how to distort social science research and humanities analysis and do some of this stuff.

  • This is bullshit all the way. She is not being realistic at all. In reality female get more attention and accordingly, deal with less stress and life difficulties because there is always the option of getting married to a richer guy and have financial support. Im not trying to profile anyone or anything. but lets face it. It might be true that males have a higher average income but that doesnt mean female is being suppressed. I think females and feminists are stepping a bit outta fair boundaries

  • "With that great fortune, comes great responsibility."

    Remember that, Peter.

  • drop the tone, then it would be easier for us all to listen

  • rofl woman have injustice GTFO this has gotten way out of hand. men now pull the short end of the stick. time to to put woman in their place wich is behind the SINK!

  • @churde So where to put men? Under the sink?

  • she sounds like a bitch

  • Her sarcastic quip about the 13 dollar donations really gave me a hard time taking her seriously. I mean really? Someone making a donation should be appreciated, regardless of the amount. I'll bet this lady could spare a whole lot more if she thinks people aren't being generous enough.

  • @ScionAscendant She wasn't being sarcastic you goddamned retard, she was just making a joke. You're honestly too stupid to be watching a video like this if you can't understand something that simple. And if you think she could "spare a whole lot more" she has: she and her husband built an entire school in Cambodia. That's a lot more than you'll ever accomplish.

  • @coxyomommasaid By that logic, if a millionaire donates ten thousand dollars (1% of a million dollars), that makes them more generous than an ordinary person who gives five thousand.

  • The real problem is that people see a video like this and they get offended because it makes them feel bad about not giving enough to charity or not being compassionate enough in general. Here's an idea: instead of insulting someone or desperately trying to bring them down in some way because they make you feel insecure, just give money to charity or be a nicer person. Then you won't feel bad about yourself AND you'll be making the world a better place. Two birds, one stone.

  • The real question that is not asked here is why the GOVERNMENT of china is NOT investing in the education of its own females. Instead of "GULLIBLE" westerners donating money, capital and resources to the principal in hubai province, why is the government of china NOT doing this. Afterall, the communist government of china has several trillions in SURPLUS.

  • @SocratesTheGadfly china is a corporation, not a goverment, their bottom line is money not people....USA is going that way except that goverment is the trashing ground to put debt on people and corporations keep it all

  • @QuantumProphet did I NOT say as much? do you think that I am just as gullible as the useful IDIOTS of the liberal socialist progressive communist mindset? give me some credit will you. I am questioning the motives of the communist government of china that RULES that country.

  • @SocratesTheGadfly you did. I thought it would be nice to underline it :)

  • @QuantumProphet pardon me, I did not realize that you were being a great deal more articulate than I in this discussion. I tend to be a great deal more forthright and examine the TRUTH behind everything rather than focus on the mundane or the style or the symbolism or the fluff that the IDIOTS out there who value minutiae as opposed to the hard REALITY. one should NEVER trust a communist governmental system because it is inherently EVIL.

  • I agree 100% But also "Vegetarianism" (not burning food, including meat) is another major solution to eliminating hunger, starvation and poverty.

  • @switzerland "Male circumcision isn't harmless" Most stupid comment I've read this far. Excision is like taking off your entire penis, so for you to know. Maybe you should take a step oustide of the richest thief, ahem I mean country in the world.

  • @ nippyhippy Even if it's always. The increase rate of 2-1/x is always higher than the increase rate of 2. But the value always remains lower. It just seems you use "mathematically impossible" in the way that suits you.

  • Whenever women break though the glass ceiling in high powered corporate jobs they behave just as a man would. Just as aggressive and ruthless because they've been corrupted and conditioned on the way up the ladder.

It's not a matter of women having more access it's a matter of changing the ruthless and aggressive culture of which we are ALL victims.

  • @felixq78 well said.. i agree with you.. ppl are puffed wid arrogance.. they can let their ego away and then they want to change the world! its not gonna happen

  • @felixq78

    Preach!

  • @hippy So you admit that the increase rate of life expectancy can be higher for men during a certain time without necessarily causing their life expectancy being immediately higher than that of women.

  • @dhepermana You should work on your reading comprehension. What do you think the word "always" implies?

  • For those who doubt, what this woman says is supported by the statistics of this guy here: relation between child death and family size and woman literacy. watch?v=OT9poH_D2Iw&feature=relmfu

  • So she's saying that all our problems would be solved if women take over? Did you know that over 99% of all on job deaths are with males. I don't see her fussing about the "equality" for those jobs.

I also noticed how when she was talking about poverty, she implied that having less children was a good thing!

Don't get me wrong. The discrimination in China and other countrys is HORRENDOUS!

  • @SamuelDMorgan Why having less children wouldn't be a good thing?

  • @dhepermana What if your parents didn't have you?

  • @SamuelDMorgan Well, if your mother didn't die while giving birth to you, in which case I apologize in advance, let's say she could have at least 10 more children over her period of fertility, right? Multiplying with the number of women on earth this leaves us with dozens of billions souls at God's complaint board for not being born. Then I wouldn't be alone!! I hope this answers you question. For a blunter answer, ask again.

  • @dhepermana Hahah! My Mother had nine healthy children (no twins)

  • @SamuelDMorgan Vagina's not a clown car.

  • @dhepermana Excuse me?!! I wasn't joking!

  • @SamuelDMorgan At no point does she claim that women should "take over". She is asking that both women and men in the developed world work towards balancing gender inequality . No-one is saying that this is because female children are more valuable than male children or because boys in the developed world don't also suffer but because boys are favoured by a notable percentage of families, in terms of the food, care and education they receive. She is asking for help in adressing this imbalance.

  • @MsLadybones There is no such thing as gender inequality. It's a made up word by feminists.

Because instead male/boys are are forced into the military/militia, gold mining (and general) labor ect... So they dont even have the luxury of speaking about 'their story' due to either being brainwashed or dead.

And i'm not even go into the ridiculous stories she made up, and her completely ignoring how males/boys live in the same situations just to make females look like stronger, smarter beings.

  • @SamuelDMorgan Through addressing this imbalance in education we will see many more educated female accountants, nurses and graduates who will go on to teach their children and those around them that women should be respected as equals, their achievements rippling throughout their community

Re: Having less children - She is not promoting China's 'One Child' policy, however it is necessary for all women to have access to contraception which inevitably lowers the number of births in a household.

  • @pikkuriica if the term feminism is of concern for you then what do you think about the terms policeman, fireman, manmade, human, and other terms that are actually biased in their respect to all genders.....

this is a very powerful video, it would be a shame to just argue about things like the misuse or characterization of terms given...not to say words aren't powerful but we could spend our time brainstorming a solution instead?

    anyone got any ideas?

  • @HM919 to have a fruitful conversation it's important to be on the same page, to use the same definition for words. I don't remember what I posted originally, but feminism struggles for women's rights, and against gender roles. Not for equality.

  • Laws for equal pay for equal work, affirmative action, EO, all bullshit.

  • A population with 1 male and 100 females can and will grow very rapidly. A population with 100 males and 1 female cannot grow. In areas of the world where precious resources are scarce an increasing population is a death sentence to everybody. The scarcity of resources is the dominant and recurring theme underlying all of her examples. Framing this issue as purely a gender or sexism issue is inaccurate. Human rights violations and oppression occur throughout the world, against women AND men.

  • @nippyhippy123 Sorry but your arguments appear to me a little light comparatively to hers. Fact that women are seldom treated as complete human beings cannot be denied. Fact that all societies would improve from treating them equally neither. "Human rights violations and oppression occur throughout the world, against women AND men." right, but not with EQUAL FREQUENCY. Come on, how many husbands beaten to death by their wives?

  • I'm not even sure what to respond to, you're completely incoherent. Let me throw you a bone though, let's agree for argument's sake that women do actually have it worse than men. Does that justify ignoring the status of men and boys in all cases? You're essentially arguing that if a group is denigrated more often than another group that the offenses against the lesser denigrated group don't count.

Sorry, but the offenses still count. Stop being so gynocentric and care for all people.

  • @nippyhippy123 Who said not to take the offense to boys and men into account? She just says the question of the offense to women is not taken seriously enough. If two children come to you, one with a bruise, the other with a bleedind wound, which one should you take care of first? Seriously, do you think our society can be qualified as over "gynocentric"?

  • @dhepermana This video stereotypes men very negatively (they drunks, smokers, selfish, etc) in order to justify its message of preferencing concern for the status of women over men. You just made up a story in order to justify your own world view (comparison of a bruise vs a bleeding wound). Your story is not reality and responding to it like it is would do a disservice to people concerned with reality.

It is gynocentric when women's issues are more important than men's for false pretenses.

  • She says, regarding women in the western world, there are more women because "we live longer." Matter of factly, without any possible inquiry, like it's undeniable truth. I absolutely support ending gender inequality. The shorter life expectancy of men is one of the greatest human and economic travesties of in the world. Today men's life expectancies are increase at three times the rate of women's, contradicting her absolutist statement. What is done to boys and men so that they die sooner?

  • @nippyhippy123 "female human life expectancy is considerably higher than those of men. The reasons for this are not entirely certain" ( wikipedia). Maybe the life expectancy of men increases faster, but still remains lower, you see?

  • @dhepermana Mathematically speaking, that's impossible. If the rate of life expectancy increase was always for men, their average life expectancies would be higher too.

The reasons are quite numerous why male life expectancies are lower than female, but they are not vague and amorphous like you imply. A major reason is that heart disease is more devastating in men from a much earlier age. However, in the US at least, heart disease in women receives more attention and now more funding.

  • @nippyhippy123 I said: "Maybe the life expectancy of men increases faster, but still remains lower, you see?" and you said "Mathematically speaking, that's impossible". Yes it is perfectly possible. Please think about two minutes before answering. And about "It is gynocentric when women's issues are more important than men's for false pretenses." just watch the video again and ask yourself whether men are in danger or not of being murdered because they had a fistula while giving birth.

  • @dhepermana No, it's not possible.

The rate of life expectancy increases among women was considerably higher than men for most of the 20th century. That's why in 1920 there was a 1 year life expectancy gap and in 2011 there is a 5-7 year life expectancy gap. It is only very recently that the rate of life expectancy increase among men has been higher, that's thanks to improvements in treating heart disease and lower rates of cancer.

    Stop making up stories.

  • She is a beautiful speaker

  • The "why should you care" reasons at the end pisses me off.

You should care because it's the right thing to do, period.

  • Gender inequality hurts males, too, though not nearly as badly as females.

Point is: gender equality will improve everyone's lives.

  • @deskset24 truly, there is a lot of sexism discriminating males as well. Which is usually disregarded as just due to stereotypical, conservative views on a "man's role".

  • @PikkuRiisa Yes. I know. I agree. Sexism against males will be less if we fight - call yourselves feminists or masculinists - I don't care which - I'll proudly call myself a feminist - nothing wrong if one calls oneself a masculinist - and we fight for equality among both sexes. That includes equality to fight against slavery, such as military draft. To allow each individual to choose which war they want to fight and pay for, or not.

  • @deskset24 I've always been wondering why nobody pitched in the word equalist. I hate calling myself a feminist.

  • @PikkuRiisa So, the word feminist doesn't suit you. That's fine. But, for those who do enjoy the label, they've got nothing to be ashamed of. They should be, and are, proud to call themselves feminists.

Equalist is not bad. I wouldn't mind that label for myself.

  • @deskset24 The thing I despise about the term feminist is that it is supposed to be a way of thinking promoting gender equality, yet the name has reference to only one gender. Plus, people calling themselves feminists often only promote ideas of better rights for women, completely ignoring sexism targeting males.

  • @PikkuRiisa You've got nothing to complain about self-proclaimed feminists. Given the ENORMITY of the battle of BILLIONS of women FORCIBLY denied the right to vote against their will for centuries, I don't blame feminists

for not having an ounce of time, energy, or money left to fight sexism-towards-men.

Feel free to start your own group to fight those injustices against men, which are real and serious.

But don't complain about the feminists.

  • @deskset24 centuries of discrimination towards a gender does not justify any discrimination towards the other. True equality will only be reached when instead of the benefits of their own group people start to think of the benefit of all.

  • @PikkuRiisa Nobody says it does. No reason to show discimination against feminists or masculinists - i.e. towards activists - any more than to women or men.

  • @deskset24 pointing out that the name they use can be interpretated as sexism is hardly discrimination... the point I actually wanted to make is that many people calling themselves feminists have a faulty mindset and that the name of their group kinda indicates that - how did this erupt into an argument again? x)

  • @PikkuRiisa egalitarian?

  • @bertthebetrayer same thing

  • you guys dont seem to see the real problem why poverty still exist, the thing is that alot of poor people will continue to be poor becouse of big companys.

for example, mostly all the fields in africa is owned by european companys, where african people work for extreamly minimum salerys.

and for instance, in senegal, people work whit shipping the crops out and on boat to europe, and then ship em back from europe back to africa again, where the already poor people will buy very expensive food

  • "The Real China"

USA borrow 2 trillion $ from the real China

  • I bought "Half the sky" and not many books are page-turners for me but this is one important book to read to gain awareness. My sister also couldn't put it down.

  • If what the woman in the video says is true, it is very sad. A large part of why women suffer in 3rd world countries because of religious dogma. Women are still seen as second class citizens because of religious dogma like the so-called religion of peace, Islam.

  • @Satchel334 Christianity is the largest religion in Sub-Sahanran Africa. East Asia is mainly Buddhist with some Christianity, and Islam in central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. But you don't go "Christianity is the reason HIV spreads so fast (since the Pope strongly discourages the use of condoms)" or "Buddhism and Christianity condone trafficking (thinking of Thailand and Eastern Europe)". It's not about religion, it's about culture, poverty and, as a result of that, lack of progress.

  • Fuck gender inequity! Women need the same options as men!

  • The root is poverty and economic development, not lower status of women, I believe. Of course some cultures, religions etc. encourage to lower states of women, but that is a minority. Help the economy to grow in LEDCs and most of the problem is solved.

  • @cCoOmMeEoOnN don't u mean LDCs?

  • @africanchina1 Doesn't matter if you say Least developed countries or Less economically developed countries I think...

  • @cCoOmMeEoOnN But isn't poverty and low economic development intertwined to the low status of women? How can a country overcome poverty when 50% of its population is not able to contribute?

  • The best teachers for men are women! Best teachers of my life are all the non-romantic loves of my life which are all women. You can learn a lot about being a super hero from them!

  • support women! Women education in developing worlds is critical.

  • oh, and btw. Bill Gates spent / donated already like 30,000,000,000 $ to organizations which take care of family planing, sterilizations, REDUCING human population. those who are running this world would love to shot us in the head on spot. unfortunately they cant do that now but they are doing what they can to murder/kill us in large numbers :

cancer, GMO, codex alimentarius, weapons trades (both legal and illegal), shitty food, and fucking monetary system.

    bye

  • excuse me, miss, but now it's 7,000,000,000 of us.

7x more than 100 years ago.

sorry, but i dont give a damn about some poor kids who live in some shithole

in the middle east or far east in great numbers cause their parents decided to have at least twelve of them.

i am poor, got shitty job, no perspective and NO FUCKING KIDS. end of topic.

if you earn like 1-2 dollars/day you shouldnt breed, so fuck you.

more of them die the less competition on job market or ppl waiting for state support.

  • @utar88utar

hahaha "decided to have at least 12" as if they weighed the options like they're educated on the long term consequences hahahaha that's funny. You're funny.

  • @metsubo that's your whole argument? wow.

guess who is funny now, mate?

  • @utar88utar It wasn't an argument. I just thought it was funny that you think they have a choice in the same sense as people like you or I do as if they're like, "Hmm, well it's a bad season down at the office so they're cutting back on Bonuses maybe we shouldn't have that 11th kid just yet. I don't think we could afford to send them to Harvard" when in realty it's more like, "You are physically weaker than I am and I am going to have my way with you and there's nothing you can do about it"

  • @metsubo because of that we should feel sorry for them? (well, i dont mean only women)

ofc i am against mistreat of women. i am all for equal rights for both genders.

it's the only way to maintain balance BUT

if ppl are dumb and kill eachothers in great numbers for whatever reason,

ppl are assholes or stupid and plan reckless i dont care.

    i simply dont care.

there is 7B of us already. killing eachothers is good (ofc excluding me :] ).

    more space for me.

  • @utar88utar Oh god know. I don't believe in feeling sorry for anyone whatsoever. I agree with you, there are way too many people in the world and some of the worst ones are the ones making more of themselves. I just believe fact and reason can change the world and those nations are what happens when information is heavily controlled and because of that I found your statement funny.

  • i dont agree with her population stat about women

  • china's problem, is not your problem Sheryl

  • All you need to fight poverty is common sense, Simple common sense.

  • ahhhhhh Sheryl Wudunn the banker director promoting her book call "Half The Sky".

  • @IllIIllIII we need more people like her that are inspiring others to change the world. She deserves a profit, anyone who does what she does deserves to as well.

  • @diotimian

Motivational speakers are a dime a dozen and all wear blinders that focus their vision through a tunnel, which is the product of researching any given topic so thoroughly. I'm all for removing bias in politics/government/any type of leadership, but I don't think that's what this specific motivational speaker is accomplishing.

I especially don't like the skews she used in every scenario. She did speak as though its the actions of the individual that made the difference, that's good.

  • @MadBagOfHorses at this point, her life has measurably given something more valuable to the world than I have. That being the case, I'd rather get behind someone that was helping to make a difference, even if it isn't up to my level of altruism, than be ashamed to complain on how it was done.

  • Gosh,, what the hell is happening around the world!!!

  • @sourzzon what is happening? well it happend that 7,000,000,000 ppl live now on this planet and monetary system aint prepared fro that huge number/ammount of us. life had no value nor meaning 100 years ago when there was only 1,000,000,000 so now it's worth even less.

but dont worry. WW3 is comming.

will solve most of our problems pretty damn quick

  • @utar88utar Did your parents reproduce at a power plant with massive radiation levels? Judging by your extreme ignorance that is either the case or you are just an asshole with no formal education or empathy who lacks any trace of enlightenment.

  • @MVT44 my empathy is fine actualy but what else can i say when there is 7,000,000,000 of us and rising every damn day?

humanity by far is the worst plague that fell upon this beautiful blue planet.

we are the cancer of this world... but not for long. WW3 is comming.

    cheers

  • "The highest return on investment in the developing world is in girls' education." I did not know that education brought the number of children per woman down so much more significantly. This makes sense, now that I hear it. Now I believe that girls' education is probably the best way to end poverty.

  • I thought it was unfortunate that she sarcastically criticized New York times readers for being cheap because many of them only gave $13 to help a girl get an education. She is shooting herself in the foot with that snide comment.

  • Comment removed

  • She reminds me of an evangelist. This was mostly just a long list of "research shows..." and "you should do something...".

She started saying that this rarely gets to the news... Surely you can't be serious. to present information as it is somekind of underground cutting edge journalism, is very misleading. All in all, I see this is mostly a regurgitated rhetoric with virtually nothing to offer to this huge problem. I sympathize with the issue wholeheartedly, but she really gives it a bad name.

  • it would've been far more purposeful IMHO to stick to examples and avoid labelling all men as chain-smoking alcoholics. She didn't really bring much new into the issue.

The issue is as complex and diverse as the human race, so it doesn't convince me to draw every case under an umbrella made of "a set of studies" (no matter what the study, each case is unique). You have to treat a problem as huge as this with much more respect.

  • Her discourse is powerful and reasonable. But, as a Japanese man who is not a TED member, just trying to live my life, I don't know what to feel. I think, the biggest luxury one can have in one's life is, to have a purpose of life (In her case it's creating a better world for women).

I just want to live a happy life with good friends and decent money. I know this is good because this makes my parents, brother and friends happy, from all I know. Will this woman be happy for that? I hope so lol

  • YouTube misogynistic bigots strike again. Honestly now. Putting a thumbs down for someone who says the enslavement of a group, many of them young children, is an injustice is beyond fucked up.

  • World wide in every country female college enrollment is far out pacing boys. It is all genetical thing you all guys wake up and begin to learn cooking, cleaning and taking care of babies.

  • Wow. Really? Name calling is the best you've got to defend your position? I'm done here.

  • Yeah, you're right. Let's start discriminating against men now.

  • why are people disliking this video?

  • this bicth needs take some speaking classed, goddam that was sad!

  • This lady is a true piece of shit, look what we to to male in her fucking backyard but she has to travel around the world looking for women discrimiantated against, in HER WORLD men die 5 years younger, in HER world we have legal discimination agains males law like Tilte 9, Title 7, VAWA, 4d $ for women, this lady should fucking kill her self and do us all a favor.

  • @ORVX cool spam bro

  • This lady is a true piece of shit, look what we to to male in her fucking backyard but she has to travel around the world looking for women discrimiantated agains, in HER WORLD men die 5 year syounger, in her world we have legal discimination agains males and programs law like Tilte 9, Title 7, VAWA, 4d women for women, this lady should fucking kill her self and do us all a favor.

  • @sosolidshoe2 I agree...IF it's true. Often times, the historically privileged group sees loss of advantage and bias in their favor as discrimination. Falsely. I don't know about the school system in Switzerland to say which is the case here. I'll look. I doubt the males are being discriminated against in it's educational system. I could be wrong. I think ANY group suffering from discrimination has valid points, but this is a discussion about the females of the world. (which offends some)

  • @swiitzerland You admittedly don't care about anyone outside your tiny bubble and don't like issues concerning discrimination against women, so I wonder why you upset yourself by watching a talk like this.

Consider this: perhaps your society has decided to make up for hundreds of years of an educational system biased towards males.

  • @098anne No idea what you really want to tell me. I was stating how men and boys are being discriminated again. Don't tell me about a "tiny bubble", the only people that live in a bubble are the feminists who usually don't care about men.

  • @098anne I don't agree with many of his points, but if what he says about education is true then it's a valid complaint. If his society wishes to "make up" for its past discrimination against women, it should reform its education system to cater to everyone regardless of gender, not reverse the focus of that discrimination.

  • @sosolidshoe2 maybe we need to reform educatgion but there is NOTHING to "make up" for, maybe some women had fewer oppurtunites but the also were not forced into coal mines and off to war to tie, lol to day men in us must STILL sighn up for selctive service, but the same women who demand a right to vote suffer no such burden, it's time we start making up for what we do to men NOW in the west!

  • @ORVX Well thanks for the support dude, but cut down on using curse language.

  • @swiitzerland nope, most these type of people don't understand reason, the only thing that can be hoped is to piss a few off. over time most of these kind or weak minded and hold no truth in integrithy, if it suites there need, they will see things another way, right now they think it is cool to be a cheerleader for the current pc bs, they don't care about truth and reality, once they see, they will be riduculed most these losers will change their attitude as they hold no core values.

  • @098anne Society hasn't had public education for hundreds of years, you're making that up. Education prior to public education was more closely correlated with wealth and social status than your sex.

You do realize that this religion you express, that males have "to make up for hundreds of years" of bias, is in fact a cause of discrimination of bigotry against innocent boys and men today. Men alive today are not responsible for past grievances so stop treating them like they're all oppressors.

  • RETITLE: why women should stick to making sandwiches.

  • Great talk. Gender inequity is still a problem even in the U.S.. Look at wage disparity. Granted, it's far less pronounced than in other parts of the world.

All the whiners talking about the boys are distracting from the topic at hand. Gender inequity. For the boys in similar situations see other talks about poverty, malnutrition, education etc.. Stay on topic !

  • @098anne I as a swiss am heavily opposed to those "women are being suppressed" talks. And I don't care about the rest of the world, half of Africa doesn't have a life expectancy over 40 anyway. I'm talking about Europe, for example, or Switzerland in particular. Worldwide, in nations where there is a conscription, only men need to do something or need to service more than females. No exceptions. Male circumcision isn't harmless and is a violation of one's right to physical intergrity.

  • @swiitzerland But nobody ever says anything bad about it. Around here, boys are being discriminated in school and education has been specialized on how to teach girls. In Switzerland, you have to work one year longer as a man until you get paid pension by law. In the western world, women can ruin a man's life by just accusing him of rape or such. Also, mothers have a right to financial aid by the child's father if they don't live together any more, even though they can restrict the father's..

  • @swiitzerland visiting rights. Now really, you people are talking about the "suppression of women"? Give me a break!

  • @swiitzerland Except this video was not talking about the western world primarily, it was talking about the developing world. And if you, by your own admission, "don't care about the rest of the world," there are plenty of other videos to comment on.

  • i can see some brains on this tread are very weak and still not ready to make changes, common! we can do it.

  • I'm a male and am 100% behind every word Sheryl WuDunn has said in her excellent presentation shown here. It's time for the world to awaken to the inequity & waste involved in the rampant discrimination against females.

Having said this, i need to note that only females can bring this about. They've done this in the US and in most western countries by refusing to be discriminated against. Males generally won't help them. They've got to force an end to gender bias.

    I'll do my part! Marti.

  • @marticollin Totally agree with you dude; just one question. In Darfur, is it only females that are malnurtiioned? Are there males in this world that are just as fucked as the females?

You see, if you were not an ignorant twat, you'd realize that the gender differences that are in the 'west', are totally different from that in the the developing world. Learn more pls.

  • @Nowasta

First you say u agree with him, and then u call him an ignorant twat? WTF dude!? hahaha

  • @africanchina1 Do you understand the context of my argument or are you just an idiot? "WTF dude!? hahaha"

  • sexist....a freaking total waste of my time. All about girls girls girls, what about the boys in similar situations. I would not give a penny to her charity.

  • @cray32 She talked quite a bit about boys in similar situations, and how they were favored.

  • ohh common guyz this video is about education for poor girls , this video is not about giving money to TED.....and you know what if you realy want to help poor girls just do somthing individualy if you dont trust on any orgnization.

  • What, we're giving education to girls now??

I am outraged, this practice must stop forthwith. - whatever next, women driving cars, flying planes!!!! We are headed for rackand ruin!

  • I use to think people were all in all good. Not since I started reading You Tube comments. What a bunch of spoiled, petty, narcissistic creeps. Fuck you. If you are offended by this it must be you I am talking to.

  • @LastBankJob

It's the result of the democratizing of the Internet.

  • @LastBankJob welcome, you're one of us now

  • @LastBankJob my thoughts exactly

  • i'm a guy and i'm totally her on the whole women are oppressed thing but her lecture sounds unfounded.

  • i'd like this talk much more if it wasn't sexist. There are boys growing up in the SAME CONDITIONS.

  • @Apeiron242 Wow, did you listen to the damned talk at all? These places have sexist practices that unevenly value boys more than girls, so she's fighting to help the ones that need the most help. Jackass

  • Cayvmann,

Do you notice that she didn't give a shit about boys who in the same conditions? She unevenly values girls over boys. Two wrongs don't make a right. If a boy and a girl both drag themselves 30 miles to get away from their villages... this woman would help the girl to the exclusion of the boy. If helping the girl helps the boy, fine... but whatever. He has a penis and would be fine anyway.

  • @Apeiron242 this is the typical accusation that's leveled against feminists. and it's completely wrong. did you listen to a single word she said? overpopulation exaggerates poverty. a major way to curb overpopulation is to educate women and increase access to birth control and health care. when this happens, both male and female children will have better quality childhoods.

  • @theseanze I disliked this video, because people like her do actual harm to the causes the attach themselves to. The do worse than fail to turn people on to helping. They turn people off.

  • We have waited a long time for such a dynamic speaker with such an urgent message.

Women are born managers, genetically pre-disposed to raise families. They are the brains to men's brawn. Is it any wonder why men repress them?

  • Another great TED talk, I agree with her completely. Misogyny is very real and very detrimental to the progress of any society. I think the champion of misogyny is any religion, and in particular the Abrahamic variety. If you think "God" gave man the approval to rule over women, then your a fool.

A peanut butter sandwich is very dry, a jam sandwich is very sweet, but together they are awesome, and I am hungry, bye.......

  • I understand where this woman is coming from, but her ideas seem a bit sensational. I guess it rubs me the wrong way when people prioritize "womens rights" over "humans rights".

Cultural shifts in third world countries are what's needed instead of simply pumping money into charities and hoping that there will be improvements.

  • @knucklez2 Except she talked quite a bit about cultural shifts, instead of pumping money into charities. Please read beyond the first 90 seconds of the video before commenting.

  • @Sylocat I watched the entire video. She was describing specific environments on a micro scale, there needs to be macro level changes for real improvements. Changes of thought, theory and philosophy that naturally imposes itself into day to day life. Forcing change impedes this.

  • No that incorrect- there are more females than males - maybe in china - but thats one part of the world

  • It does not suffice to send only resources and money, most importantly, PEOPLE need to be sent there too.

If the missionary and the doctors weren't there, that lady with obstetric fistula would probably die of her wounds or the hyenas and would never get to be a nurse and help others.
