martin landau plays his part with conviction. In 1963 the concept of coming from the future to change the past must have seemed so far beyond the standard tv fare of the time. but landau brings a very human sense of despair as the pattern of time unfolds despite his efforts
FYI: just posted a 4-part "The Outer Limits documentary" with interviews from William Shatner, Harlan Ellison, Robert Culp, et al. Check it out if interested.
Ugliness used to shock and horrify us...now it's just commonplace. Now, virtue, wholesomeness, strength and visual appeal dismay us and turn us away...
Andro reminds me in "appearance only" of a homeless hard core crack head I once met in dwn twn LA a few yrs ago, w/ face, limp & all & yes he would fit in our pre appocalypic times, yes indeed mates, I have to tell you thking in retro the OL's was quite prophetic in some regards id say.
@SuperZenozeno : I look at homeless people, and imagine them in their true, happy and healthy selves. It's good exercise for the imagination. It's going to be interesting when our society flips back around to health and strength again. ;])
When I was a kid of about 18 years old I paid seventy five cents for a room in the slums of Sacramento Ca. A room with just a bed, no sheets and holes in the walls, with Rats crawling around. This was about 1969. Next morning I had 25 cents for food then I was broke. I went a week without food until I found some work to do to git enough money to git back home.
By the way...pretty cool movie, never seen it before. I love the old ones.
@alterego227 My parents financed a house for $18,000 in Los Angeles in 1965. People didn't get paid much, but money sure lasted longer in those days. I'd be lucky if I can make it to next week w/ $20 in this wonderful modern age.
hm they might be able to come back. travel through time anywhere, but they cannot change the present becouse there were no time travellers, its locked. the ultimate vacation. hm the future is a question, you can see it and make actions in the present. if you can come back. Learn from the past too. it could be used for purposes of war, but that would be tricky cos other ppl can see too, and you realize the effects of war won´t last, and how futile it really is.
Not exactly. In (the excellent) 12 Monkeys, Bruce Willis went back in time to fetch the non-mutated virus for research purposes. There was no plan to actually stop the virus from spreading.
Take notice younger viewers. No over the top music,no special effects...just a beautiful screenplay.Real actors with perfect diction.Something Hollywood ditched for it's current lineup of smash you in the face crappy movies they foist upon the masses.
probably because of the entertainment demographics, back then things were targeted towards adults with adult attention spans, nowadays the PG-13 and up crowd are the main targets
because of demographics, back in the day adults with adult length attention spans were the main target, nowadays the PG-13 crowd are targeted and the industry knows young people can't stand to be without a nifty sfx shot every two seconds... god forbid they sit through dialogue :)
@BrimptonFopp its just rubbish , the poor kids of today have no imagination or wonder watching todays rubbish. Shame on Hollywood , there is just no real magic in movies or tv shows any more
Ed Rendell looks alot like this guy-Co-insidence ?I don't think so.Maybe he's from Earth's future.Outer Limits always needed a Beam-Bug Eyed Alien Moster.Would sick humans look like this guy Andro.

Clearly superior programming. I hope more younger viewers get to appreciate programs like the Outer Limits.

Why would she think Martin Landau was an Englishman. He sure doesn't sound British at all.
Jackalman99 2 years ago
The acting, screenplay, and character development was far superior to anything else from that period.

10 dollars a week for a hotel room? Is that how much it cost back then?

yeah, because the money still retained some value.....it's called "inflation"

I know, lol. It's just weird to see a hotel room that cheap, even though this was filmed decades ago.

My parents bought their home in 1964 for $12,000. It sold in 1998 for $250,000. I remember when candy bars were 10 cents.

the plot is similar to terminator, a guy from the future sent to assasinate someone in the past
azia2x 3 years ago
or better said the terminator plot is similar to this one considering this was made earlier :)
spid33r 3 years ago 5
Ellison Ellison sued the makers of the Terminator movie, for the similarity to the Outer Limit episode "Soldier" that he wrote.

This is similar to 12 Monkeys with Bruce Willis where a prisoner from the future has to stop a disease from being created.
