Referring to "alternative" sources, we have to mention photovoltanics, which is clean and is being used at an increasing rate (yet still expensive). There's going to be a new generation of nuclear power plants that will eliminate most of the old risks and start with new, better energy production. Nuclear fusion is the most promising one, yet the first experimental reactor will be built in 2019. We'll have to wait.

@Nomasain whether matter is created or destroyed, the conservation of energy law is maintained, the energy just changes its form into different packets. Even the energy that produced our universe has been already existent and originated perhaps from different universes that preceded ours. The energy constantly fluctuates it is never created out of nothing or destroyed into zero value. If I blew up the whole planet, the energy would still be conserved. Nature works this way.

Laser pulses were sent thru Cesium vapor at 310 times lightspeed in Princeton, NJ in 2000. Cern has conclued in multiple experiments that Neutrinos travel faster than light.
