  • I love this. It reminds me of My Dad,who was a Master Control at our ABC affiliate.

I know its a NBC feed, but it reminds me of when I used to go to work with my Dad when I was little. RIP DAD.

  • was that Jessica Savitch announcing the slugs for the feed?

  • THE RON SMITH SHOW VIDEOS most are defaults at this time vgv , NOWOSIELCE, POLAND

  • Gosh! At the 1:12 point when the news feeds begin, I would have sworn the female voice was that of Jessica Savitch. However, the date mentioned is September 11, 1986, but Jessica Savitch died in 1983.

  • agnamaracs,

You said it yourself: "never meant for public consumption."

Well, I'd be willing to bet that they didn't say "AIDS Boy" on-air, but for a billboard to affiliates (which only the production person taking the feed at each station sees), brevity is key...just enough to know which story they're referring to.

  • @SuperPC658 it was 1986

  • It's sad that satellite feeds have become so controlled and C-Band is basically obsolete because everyone has gone digital.

Mid 90s Primestar was sort of similar with the odd feeds that would pop up every so often, but it was rare compared to C-Band.

  • 86 points, thats a kiddy slide compared to the roller coaster today

  • This kind of stuff never meant for public consumption is fascinating (the A-News 1 announcements in particular). Do you have any other editions of this?

Also, "AIDS Boy" is a horrible name for a story.

  • @agnamaracs

Especially considering how sensitive Ryan Wayne White's case was. He died months before I was born.

  • lol WPBN, my hometown affil

I never did watch NBC skycom, but I watched the ABC version of it, whatever it was called, once or twice on my grandma's c-band dish. fun times! I was more likely to be watching fox kids feeds or bvista cartoon feeds :D

  • the ABC version was called ABC NEWSONE (they still exist, but all feeds have gone digital)

  • This brings back memories! Sometimes you would hear some funny comments here and there! Kept everyone sane in those days. Great stuff!!

  • At least you get the hear the whole "Mission," albeit as background.

  • Thought it was kinda neat to hear it too, also the fact the announcer was able to cram all that into in to fit the entire theme.

  • Well the actual Mission theme is really really long. What you hear on the start of Nightly News is just a small cut.

  • I know, I was just saying for the longer theme used for that part the announcer had enough time fitting all that in anyway.

  • September 11? 1986? OMG! TRAGEDY! STOCKS SLIDE, FLOOD, IS IT PRE-2001?

  • lol - I remember they were saying that pollution was going to kill us and we were going to run out of water supply. NOW it's global warming, killer bees, and shark attacks. News is a dishonest, disgusting business.

  • Is this the Affillate Feed? Something like "NEWS CHANNEL". Or is this from the GE Sattlite's?

  • this IS from the GE satellites.

  • Fukken win! WPBN is my local affiliate, lol TC here.

  • Coolness... news live feeds are AWAYS amazing to watch

  • I agree. You always see bits & pieces of unique stuff not meant to be seen on the finished product.

  • I only wish I was a tad older and worked in one of those places where this would be the usual boring thing we'd have to see daily in doing a local newscast or whatever.

  • Damn, I miss my old C-Band dish! I used to have dozens of tapes like this from my youth - news feeds, affiliate promo packages - my all time favourite was some uncensored live pre-air rehersal footage of Sam Kinnison hosting some world music awards in 1990 - wish I still had them.

  • A C-Band satellite dish? Where can you get one -- eBay I presume? I WANT ONE SO BAD!!! I allways wanted to see what they do durring pre-on-air rehersal whenever a comercial brake comes on.

  • Heh, I only wished I had one too. A friend of mine up in Canada had one and could watch all the US cable channels easy.

  • Did anyone notice she said, "September 11th, 1986". Fifteen years to the day...

  • Kind of chilling isn't it? If we knew then, what we know now...

  • AIDs boy

  • September '86 - I was just four months then.

  • Wow, this is interesting to watch, for a broadcasting/AV dweeb like myself, and the fact that it's from 1986 gives it extra bonus points :). I'd like to see more raw sateliite feeds like this on YouTube....

  • Satellite feed rules!

  • Thats my DOB!

I watch this everyday in Europe on NBC satellite feed to Europe.

    Weird

  • do you have video of that

  • Awesome!

    :)

  • Interesting...so is this, like, the stuff you would see if you worked at an NBC affiliate station or something?

  • In radio, I worked for an ABC Radio affiliate at the time--this is similar to the NewsCall that get sent to stations. While in the newsroom, I took feeds, cuts and stories from ABC Radio, printed out the copy for the newscall and took whatever stories/sounds I could and the accompanying scripts.

By the way, note the date--Septemeber 11th

  • Yup. I worked for an ABC Radio affiliate too! We didn't have to worry too much about the NewsCall (AudioVault would record that), but we had to make DAMN SURE to catch the SportsCall at 2:09am ET. Wonder if it still feeds at that time?

These days I see a lot of CNN NewsSource feeds. They're just not as personable; changes to the rundown are fed automatically into the newsroom software or posted on the affiliate website.

  • do you have any video of a cnn newsource feed

  • Not at the moment. I'll have to make a dub sometime.

  • A little Tech, But it will do.

  • Interesting stuff for broadcasting geeks. Thanks for posting.
