  • I feel kind of sorry for these students...I mean, come on do you guys think that you can scare off some criminal thug who has lived in violece all his life ? Someone who predates on ppl like this for a living every day ??? I dont think so

  • @rightlogo it's not black and white. By verbally engaging someone who is harassing you, you're placing yourself on better legal footing. If, after an altercation, you go before a court of law, and their are witnesses, if someone sees you hauling off on someone, you may be facing jail time. However, if that same witness sees you telling somebody to "go away" or whatever, there is better justification for defending yourself. Furthermore, verbally engaging someone can show a couple of things:

  • @rightlogo 1) you are not afraid. Therefore, you may not be perceived as a victim. Most criminals don't want a struggle. If you were a thug, what would you like better? Someone who is meek or someone who is assertive? 2) Ehn, forget 2. The legal aspects and reducing your victim profile, i.e. being assertive are two good reasons for this. Is it going to drive away every potential attacker? No. What if this strategy were effective 50% of the time? Only a macho dickhead wants a knife fight.

  • @callofduty497 I can tell you this : in a "life or death situation," your survival brain will not be able to access 90 % of what you learned in Krav Maga. I have studied Krav Maga and I have total respect for FAST. .You shouldn't be putting down something that you have not tried, especially when it does not even conflict with anything that Krav Maga teaches.

  • "do you have the time?" is obviously a serious attack to those people... they probably won't have many friends!

but i would be afraid of someone picking on me with such a biiig head!

  • Well, since I have been exposed to a number of different Krav systems over many years and have also worked with many integrating FAST and Krav with good success, I have to disagree with you. I suggest you stick with Krav since you love it and if you are interested in learning more about FAST above and beyond some short video clips of our most basic level seminars, then I recommend you attend a FAST seminar. I have yet to have anyone experience FAST and not be blown away, including Krav people.

  • Krav and FAST are actually very much aligned. FAST because of our unique body armor goes further into the adrenal fear rush than Krav, and for that reason many Krav people are also now doing FAST. We also cover the most important verbal defense skills top keep a fight from happening in the first place. To answer your last question, how about hundreds of thousands of students who have actually experienced FAST ranging from soccer moms to MA masters and LE professionals who have raved about it.

  • I got an adrenal rush just watching this! I want to learn more about this technique.

  • Dealing with the Adrenal rush is difficult but there are arts or teachers who train you to deal with this. Its difficult you have to have focus and stuff. As for technique its needed in some cases. Like Bob White says its not technique but physique. I suggest anyone who trains martial arts do some good sparring like they do in Krav Maga and Kajukenbo there are some ways to deal with the adrenal rush like getting use to it

  • In response to the last altercation shown: A classic example of how important it is to be aware of your surroundings; if you're attacked and you've taken him/her down, then most likely that person's friend is going to come up behind you and bust your head in, not pull you back and lay down.

  • Looks like typical self defense class bullcrap.

  • The students seem like they are picking the fights when asked a question by a regular person?

  • yeah the students seemed pretty jumpy and aggressive for no decent reason, you can keep someone at a distance without being so aggressive straight away. Seems strange that's being taught, in my experience being aggressive that quick would escalate alot of situations.

  • @LuqmanNaq I agree, there's no reason for people to be that jumpy. I live in the hood and that's just entirely overreacting. If something happens to you it's going to happen quick and not start with a conversation.

  • I am convinced that FAST Defence offers a reat way of self defence, Bill Kipp is doing a great thing. However, I am sure that the first persons acted too over reacted (too quickly agressive) while the persons who spoke to them did not say anything specificly wrong at that time. In my opinion they were throwing gasoline to a person that asked for a lighter. Anyway, they must have felt their warning instincts or else they brought their own asses unnessacary in danger with these guys ;-)

  • Think the assiliant is having a little unrealsitic range. Its more often "in your face" .. and if it is in a town or somewhere noisy he had to come closer to hear whats he's saying.

  • I just cant get over the inherent comedy of the guys dressed as alien invaders

  • Colonel, we have gotten every manner of flack about this suit for decades. It is however still the best body armor available to allow full force strikes to the head and groin. As soon as someone comes up with something better, we'll keep using it. Despite it's Micheline man appearance, it actually allows the wearer to move quite well and provides the realism that makes FAST so effective. Stay safe!

  • What about Tony Blauer's "High gear"?

  • In my opinion, Tony's High Gear is the best available for symmetrical training (ie: two people going at it full force) vs the asymmetrical training we dio in FAST. Tony is a real innovator and great guy doing great work!

  • that only works if your attacker is very stupid and can't throw a punch...

  • holy crap at 4:01 thats my school that they are at!

  • i actually met him in person.

  • Is fear controlled through techniques? What about so-called muscle-memory? Self-defense is always going to be about violence, injuries, pain, and even death. It's not about style or tradition. It's about taking care of yourself and to know fear. That is key. FAST-training is certainly a way to go to become the predators nightmare.

  • Well said. people who are still locked into the technique based paradigm are missing the point. It is about mindset, awareness, and the ability to deal with adrenal fear rush that everyone experiences but so many deny.

  • @BillKipp People who do martial arts are sometimes trained to deal with the adrenal rush. If they werent there wouldnt be arts like Kali, or JKD or other arts. that have worked in street fight scenarios as well as other situations including battlefield. But self defense is more then just beating someone up its about knowing when and when not to do something, If you had to defend yourself and struck someone but kept on going and going then it would be viewed as assault. But i dont see that here

  • Thanks for your comment. I studied Filipino MAs in the Philippines for 2 years and taught them for decades. They are still to technique heavy for real application in most cases. Research what I call the ABCs of FAST Defense to see the full continuum of self defense as we address it. And none of our students have ever gone "Rodney King" because they learn to control the effects of adrenaline vs vice versa.

  • @BillKipp Nice work on the self defense.

  • To feel all that fear and uncertainty, and just take action despite of it. To understand and experience the warrior we can be in crisis. That is about getting in contact with your fighting spirit, more than anything. Good training will do this.

Know fear. Confront it. Do not fear fear. But control it. That is something that the Martial Arts community still don't fully understand. They think they do, but they have no idea.

  • By the way; statistics show that most women are controlled through intimidation/verbal aggression/body language alone (when assaulted).

FAST is excellent at making women "cats that won't be held". Woman can fight primal, and men have ofcourse vital targets such as the eyes, throat and testicles. Techniques are not that important.

FAST and other quality RBSD-systems are so effective, because the scenario-training will give you true confidence in your abilities.

  • I just have to post a comment here. I have trained with Mr. Kipp, and I want to state that the effectiveness of this type of training is pretty solid. All that other fancy martial arts stuff ain't worth much without adrenal control.

  • I respect your input and experience. My teacher started woring with rape victims in 1972. I took over his work in 1988 and have personally worked with hundreds of rape victims, some of them nationally famous. The key is gettine them to overcome the freeze response, lest no training will suffice. Be safe and keep up the good work.

  • Not to put you down but I have donated my time and instruction to women that have acutally been raped and like I said before, I actually work with this type of Inmate, and all the women/inmates I talked to stated, from the front they just came in punching, from the back either had a weapon or just started pummeling them with punches and pushing them to the ground. Oh well just different view points I guess

  • Those kicks look really strong. I liked the second clip with the ground fighting. Looks like a great class.

  • thats bullshit,,in most cases,,you wont know your being asualted till its too late,,the type of cowards who do this sort of shit usualy employ suprise well and will make sure thier first strike is in your most sensitive and vunerable place,,stuning you and making you slow to react in time,,blah

  • Actually blitzkrieg sucker punch attacks constitute the minority of assaults. There is typically precipative low level aggression that when dealt with incorrectly allows it to escalate to violence. And yes, either way the assailants are cowards.

  • OMG! I agree with guardup, I got adrenalized just watching this. Do you have any instructional tapes other that missing link (wich I love!).

Are still associated with Peyton Quinn's RMCAT, is this the same? different?

  • Wow, this'll really come in handy when I'm attacked by people who just advance slowly upon me. Thanks for your indispensable help, you cadre of geniuses.

  • Thanks. The cadre appreciates your gratuities. Isn't puberty wonderful? Be safe...

  • Good verbal diffusion. :-)

didn't get sucked into a fight (arguement in this case.

  • this looks just like impact and model mugging only not as good. all the students seem to know is to shout "back off." the way I was taught , this could be infammatory, not always the best course of action. and at least one female student attacked the padded guy as soon as he even came near her. not good.

How did they get voted best womens self defense in the industy? i suspect politics.

  • I ran a Model Mugging Chapter for over 10 years. FAST is a synthesis of what worked for the self defense aspects, minus the intense psycho drama. BTW, our students voted us The BEST! Thanks, BK

  • Wow, brings it all back. Been a few years since I saw that footage and brings back all the adrenal memories.

    Lisa B.

  • Funny, I still get an adrenaline response just *watching* the videos. Not as much as taking the actual seminar... but ya gotta love the "juice"!

Thanks, Bill. My daughters and I are safer because of you, Deb and your attackers. Peace, Meghan

  • Thanks Eric. I will be adding a series of clips on the various FAST modules, basics, groundfighting, weapons, armed attackers, multiple attackers, stick & Knife fighting, and more!

  • Bill, your video quality is increasing - soon it will be at the level of your seminar quality!
