They say in the intro in the dropship - marine killed their leader and disabled planetary defenses. Did you honestly expect EVERYTHING to be the same as Quake 2? No 2 games in the same series are ever the same. Also you do know ID Software didn't make this game right? It's an ID game, but it was developed by Raven Software. I was disappointed too, I thought I was getting Quake 2 with awesome graphics. I could care less about the small details you rage about. They wanted it to be more real.

I didn't expect it to be the same, per say. I expected the game to be a good example of a super set of Q2. This expectation happens usually when you say you are going to create a sequel. Like Half-Life 2 was to Half-Life 1. So I don't find my reaction completely unfounded. Sure, it didn't have to have EVERYTHING I listed but I think my point was to show I could easily come up with a huge list of things not in Q4 that was in Q2.

@PlasmicRedX Half Life is a differnt kind of AWESOME. While the graphics from 1 to 2 are way better, the core of the game is the same. That's Valve for you though, they don't fuck around. I didn't check the tags. Every game is different, though I wonder how it would have gone down had ID made it instead of Raven.

@PlasmicRedX Con't - I found it fun though, my biggest beef is the damage system, I miss higher difficulty meaning more monsters, not 1 shot kills. In Doom 3 something only killed you in 1 shot if it was on Nightmare or a boss.

@PlasmicRedX Actually come to think of it 2 things are wrong, my beefs are getting killed by 1 spike from the berserker, or 'falling' off a platform. Because of in Quake 2 having secrets I would jump to my doom in quake 4 looking for something special. There were times I would use a quad damage in Q2 and rocket myself up to the top of the screen. Ahh quake 2, pushing a lever lowering a strogg into a pool of lava. Or stopping marines from dying in Factory only to push 4 at once into a grinder.

Why can't I set my options to Ultra or even high. I just bought the steam version and the graphics look the same as quake 2. Running on a core i7 and a radeon 6950 hd.

if there were no screen shakes i would play black ops,mw2 and cod 4

you can play mw2 for free and on dedicated servers

cod4 you can play singleplayer for free and mp on 1,2 servers and black ops you can play against bots

other new games are pathetic

Didn't like the multiplayer. What's the point in updating visuals if idiots would rather play in ambient environments that look like they were yanked out of the 90's? Not for me.

The single player was pure Quake IMO. Not a fan of the rail & vehicle missions though. There are a few good mods that make the SP more enjoyable, and look better. Corpses not vanishing, more realistic textures, metal reflection effects etc.

SP is only worth playing on Lieutenant and higher. You're not in this vid, hmm.

the grenade launcher is also way different, it's like a launcher from the old medal of honor allied assault... NOTHING like the launcher from q2 that was an art form in multiplayer
