Great space Chad! Couple of things though....you may have asbestos in those ceilings and watch out for black mold if moisture has been an issue in the past. Also, bring a bottle of FORMULA 409 to clean up those windows. Enjoy!
The document pass thing, if it is an work office it probably isn't for a telephone though, I know some one who has one of the built in holes. I really like all your radios!!!
Chad - You were very lucky to get a wonderful place like this to store all your treasures. Wish we had similar space. The house (1700 sq ft) can't accommodate all our consoles let alone the record collection. We are using the consoles as furniture throughout the house. The garage and storage unit hold the overflow. Have two of the same Magnavox amp you do (AMP-150 25 watts) in a console. They sound great with the Magnavox bass speakers and treble horns.
I am curious, what do you do with your radios/televisions/stereos, once they are restored? Do you sell them? Is this supposed to be a museum open to the public or just your personal workspace? How do you support such a hobby?
That is a lot of new space, and a lot better for your collection than a storage unit. The streets sure look quiet there, no traffic at all. I have a similar Magnavox amp to yours, but it has two 5U4 rectifier tubes and 6-6v6 output tubes.. I have a 2nd house that I use for storage, and I am beginning to run out of space. I can't resist bargains like the Magnavox Windsor for 35.00 or the Ridgeway grandfather clock I found last week in a used appliance store storage room for 50.00.
@maynardcat This Magnavox unit does have 2, 5U4 rectifier tubes. It is a mono unit which has 4, 6V6's for the bass output and 1 6V6 for the treble output. We never had the cabinet for it.
It really is pretty quiet and peaceful in the area.
That sounds like a really good deal on a grandfather clock...I don't have any clock repair experience and all the grandfather clocks I have seen for sale have been pretty expensive.
Awesome! And Congratulations! Now I would love to see this huge place fully populated with your treasured collection of equipments, radios, TVs and other stuff. Thanks again for sharing.
I guess thats one way to save the marriage LOL not to keep all the stuff at home. I remember a guy here on Youtube a couple of years ago who was storing vintage Mac computers in the couples kitchen and his wife threatened to leave him because of it...
@GrosvenorAudio There is a whole lot of this type of stuff at home as well. Organist1982 doesn't have any problem with it although we are going to try and move some of it here to have better access to it.
@wildbilltexas It is right in the middle of downtown Midland. Occasionally on the weekend there has been a shady character walk by or some skateboarding kids but this is purely a business area so there is not much to attract a bad element. I can park the car about 20' from the door weekdays, or right in front of the front door on weekends.
@retrochad That's great. I wish I live closer to Midland to visit, it's a long way from Kilgore. And how are you bringing up large items like pianos and organs to the second floor? I hope that building has an elevator.
@wildbilltexas You're welcome to visit if you're ever passing through. We actually have hauled everything up the stairs by hand...a freight elevator would be great but there is none. We strap everything to a dolly and pull it up. Organist1982 has helped push on the bottom end. On the jukebox SouthJK and I disassembled it and hauled the components up seperately and then re-assembled it upstairs.
Awesome! I love old buildings like that- lots of freedom. I have my shop in an old warehouse in east LA and it's good fun but that looks even more quiet and secluded. Nice!
@GarrisGates Yes, it was built in 1952 I believe. There are three business office tenants in the building and the lower floor is rehearsal rooms for rock bands and document storage. Some of the other offices on the second floor are rented for storage.
Very nice area, I'm sure that'll work out nicely for you and all the equipment. Also interesting to have personal space inside of an office building. I'm sure the landlord is thrilled to have their first tenant in that space in ~20 years!
Hey,
Hmmm, are they renting the sections out to live in like a flat??? If so you don't have a bathroom, are any of the rooms have there own bathroom???

Nice storage and workshop area. Does it have 1970's or 80's era lighting inside?

That's an awesome storage arrangement! And yeah, shelves would be great for all of your radios, and to cut down on clutter.

Hey Chad, with as many rooms as you now have control over, you might be getting close to winning naming rights to the building :-)
I see a good space for a museum-type operation.
