  • This is the only instrument I've ever been interested in I would kill for one of these... Too bad they cost so much :/ well the one i want anyway, the big one :D the alpha

  • This is the only instrument I've ever been interested in I would kill for one of these... Too bad they cost so much :/ well the one i want anyway, the big one :D

  • Well that didn't really answer any questions about this instrument.. looks so damn awesome though, wish i had a few spare 1000 quid to get 1!

  • Sorry, U spent so long getting around to actually telling me or showing what it was I have up halfway through

  • Does it have a spit valve? Where does the condensed breath water accumulate?? Horn players will know what I'm talking about.

  • BTW - it will only work on a MAC. It's not Windows compatible and you still need to hook it up to your stereo or guitar amp to get any kind of decent sound. The devil is in the details isn't he?

  • $5600 Are you guys out of your minds?? Then I have to use a computer to use it because it's useless without one. Not exactly portable. Admittedly it's very cool - as a very expensive toy. The drums sounds are as cheesy as any I've ever heard. No guitar patch??? Give me a break!!

  • The song is Extreme Way by Moby... Lol! Nice cover!

  • watch this stoned. probably one of the most epic things ever...

  • @maidmyriad

    best advice. ever.

  • @fatpaws Hey thanks.. Just doing my part to make crazy weird instruments that much more interesting.

  • Traditional musical instruments, you are now obsolete. Enter the Eigenharp.

  • Less of an instrument, more of a kick-ass pimped out Synthesizer.

  • @MihkailGorbachev ... A synthesizer is an instrument.

  • holy shit...I wish I had one.

  • I bought the Pico and there's a learning curve. they just announced the Tau which is half the price of the Alpha...I might jump there, but not the first 6 months...I want to exhaust my learning curve on this one first.

  • Saw some guy on a show with one, he sounded professional, and he had been playing 5 months.

  • yeah, it was Attack of the Show on G4TV, it was on yesterday and last night.

  • this must be the hardest instrument to learn how to play

  • Its actually fairly easy. There is very little variation in the muscle memory to develop.

  • i love this insttument i want one so badly but i take it they arent that easy to get are they lol it sounds awesome

  • Did any of you see the bond them on eigenharp? I must buy an eigenharp some day in my life!

  • well good look succeeding in the music industry hating it. this is the future. hop on board.

  • Man I'd love to hear this played with a VST like Prominy LPC/SC, or Wallander Instruments WIVI.

It's basicially a MIDI controller that comes with sounds.

  • @King622 for 4000 pounds, I hope it's MUCH more than that..

  • cool

  • I agree with phadde's interesting comment. I'd rather hear some Arctic Monkeys.

  • Question, what SOUND does an eigenharp make?

  • The music piece played is entirely on Eigenharp... i assume from what i've herd from the instrument so far

  • The Eigenharp doesn't make any sounds. It has to be hooked up to a mac. It's basically a $6000 midi controller and sequencer.

  • a BADASS $6000 midi controller and sequencer

  • @sxptrvng well maybe the day when they will make sounds will come.

  • not much of a big fan but will se what happends this intrument cost around 5,000 dollars thats just to much for this

  • oh wtf who in gods name would buy that

  • how much do they cost ?

  • This thing looks like a prop from a Sci-Fi film. You know, one of those weird instruments some band in the background is always playing.

  • @Desmaad Haha like the cantina in Star Wars?

  • what the name of this song, i like it..?!??!?!

  • It's Extreme Ways from Moby

  • Not Deep Forest music, its an unusual cover of Extreme Ways by Moby

  • The music on this commercial makes me dislike humans. If I had money, I wouldn't buy Eigenharp solely because of this Deep Forest music.

  • Nice enough, but it's not revolutionary. It's just a synth controller in a strap on configuration. Breath controller? Been done. Touch sensitive keys? Been done. Strap on controller? Been done.

Still, I wouldn't turn down a free one.

  • yeah, i really don't see how any of this couldn't be done using some good controllers and free softsynths.

  • Please make it cheaper!

3200 bucks are too much. :(

  • it comes to about $5000 US dollars

  • yes, i meant british pound

  • I really love new instruments and how they change the approach to making music. But the Eigenharp has nothing that you can't do with a Keyboard and it looks totally uncomfortable. I guess with a programmable midi pedal board and an AKAI EWI you're able to do the same thing but it feels better. I doupt there is a future for this instruments unless they sell it for a few hundred bucks.

  • Get your lawyers lined up - cuz the Chinese will pump out a $229.39 version in a couple of weeks.

  • This is the wrong song for this instrument. It makes the Eigenharp sound like a keyboard. So I gues it is nothing like a string instrument? Right?

  • ... no ... no it's not a string instrument. This is indeed the perfect song for this video because it was probably made using an Eigenharp

  • It is actually said to be both a woodwind instrument and a percussion instrument.

  • all synthed. midi rythem and patterns yull need a laptop but it comes with one native instrument like a standards built in one e.g cello but you cam change it

  • thats the sound track from the bourne films.

  • Is this designed to win over guitarists? Since there are no strings there is no need to have the neck be straight. Curved would have been much easier to play (for us non-guitarists).

  • Interesting indeed.

But for a moment there I just stopped paying attention to the video because the music made me instantly picture Matt Damon trying to make his way to CIA headquarters.

  • the song in the video sounds like Extreme Ways by Moby. :3

  • It IS Extreme Ways! I saw them cover it on BBC News here in the UK, just 3 guys with Eigenharps. It's on the BBC website.

  • it really does! :) :)

  • Because it is. It seems to be a "smooth" instrumental cover of the song.

BTW... Moby is known for often licensing his songs for all sorts of various commercial use.

  • it's actually only $5,000. still ridiculous but awesome.

  • That's pretty sick. I've heard some playing of it and sometimes it sounds a tad electronic-scratchy, but the layerings of sounds you can get is very cool and modern, while also being a bit classical, which I think is badass. I'd love to take lessons with this thing.

  • Too expensive, $8000... but still amazing.

  • That's RAD!

    gotta have one X-D

  • still not as good as a chapman stick. prettier maybe

  • I'm getting one, that's for sure.

  • Well done Eigenlabs for spending 8 yrs working on this incredible instrument!! Well worth the wait. have just read about it on the bbc.

  • yep me too ;)

but i guess there will be people saying "it´s not a real instrument" :(

  • ppl once said Bach wouldn't be real music...but who the fuck cares? ;) as long you can make music with it and put some expression in it it's an instrument to me :)

  • what song is this?? I've heard it before I think - only not played on this instrument obviously. Thanks

  • It's by Moby. Forget the song name though.

  • Cheers! You're a a legend!

  • extreme ways by moby

  • you probably know it from the bourne movies.

  • YES! Thanks muchly. That's awesome!

  • extreme ways by moby

  • think i'll stick with the good ole' six string too

  • This is amazing - Brilliant and innovative - pity I can't play music - but it does make me want to learn, but for a newbie this might seem overwhelming and maybe the pico version is something I should try. But I truly believe it will be a successful instrument - with even the likes of Moby or Tangerine Dream using it live soon would be fantastic! Good Luck guys!

  • its like a real playable customized guitar hero guitar.. ill stick with strings...

  • A rare example of a new musical instrument that combines innovation and elegance.Good luck with it :)

  • I just searched for this after seeing it on the BBC website, can I ask, are you guys influenced by Rob Hubbard's game music on the C64? Great sound by the way.

  • Congratulations on getting featured in the BBC news guys. :)

  • Alan Parsons comes to mind....

  • As exciting as the close ups and fly bys were, I'd rather just watch someone play the damn thing.

  • Check out the BBC website for someone playing it. Its Awesome!

  • Try this;

    watch?v=EN3DCgN0TOg

    enjoy!

  • Think this a fantastic product and once people know how to play it its going to sound amazing.

  • I just made an inappropriate mess and I can't even read music.

  • i soooo want one of those! now!

  • This is creativity defined.

  • Wow, an awesome use of a Moby remix to show off a cool new instrument, can't wait to see more.

  • Good to see this finally out! Looking forward to seeing what the world makes of it.
