Basicly it's sort of impossible to go to super saiyan 5. It was impossible at first to turn into super saiyan 4, but the GT developers didn't know the details of the super saiyan transformations. Super saiyan 3 itself was a godlike being that could damage the time and space around it, and the saiyans couldn't be in it for long 'cause the laws of the universe prevented that. Plus it takes so much energy from the body that goku was never able to use the super saiyan 3's full power.
