To lay this matter to rest: There was NEVER anything offnesive to gays in this series. I am not only gay but I've also been a gay activist in my younger years. In general the gay community loved this show, and especially John Inman, who was openly gay AND a drag queen.
This was one of the best episodes. The series was generally very funny, but there were some occasional duds. Also, the later seasons were not as good--some episodes were downright bad: the series suffered when the original cast were cganged: Mr. Grainger, Mr. Lucas and Young Mr. Grace. Their replacements were at bewst mediocre.
HA!!!! this is the funniest thing ive ever seen and im not saying that just be cause im shit faced drunk. its fucking hilarious! i love these bitches!
I grew up lusting after Miss Brahms in the 1970's and I never missed the show.
AYBS has aged badly but it is good to remember that there was once a time when it was ok to make jokes about gays, portray young women as sex objects, old men as leering perverts, make jokes about pussies- and not be shouted down by a minority of smarmy, joyless bastards that seem to have taken over our society.
@notmemate Yes ... scores of gay kids killed themselves over the last year and a half because of relentless bullying, but you're more concerned about protecting comedy. Makes sense. Besides, this kind of gay-humor is not the kind that anyone really has a problem with, so it's a bit of a senseless connection you were trying to make in the first place. Maybe you shouldn't try to turn an AYBS video into a god damned political statement. Just enjoy it ... and it's aged just fine. Maybe you haven't.
@TriscuitFan Ah get over yourself- as you pointed out Mr Humphries making a gag about fairy cakes or the gay gordon is hardly going to make a gay kid hang themselves but you wont see that type of thing nowadays.
I was just saying out the times have changed- and all the sanitizing of comedy and TV that has gone on since the mid 1980's has been pointless- there's more hatred and community division than ever.
Read the last line of my first post again- I think it applies to you.

@xraidedlok Treasure that time you have with your Grandfather. What a blessing to be able to watch this and enjoy it with him. Thank Your Grandfather for his service to our country! Peace.
I just noticed that Mr. Lucas touched Mr. Humphries' bottom. They were one of a kind. One of the things I missed was their friendship in seasons 8-10. Mr. L. is a cool guy: comfortable in his own sexuality and was cool with Mr. H. regardless of his lifestyle and preference (I'm pretty sure Mr. H is Bi, but still). All you other "men" who thinks it's "manly" to bash others based on their sexuality can flush yourselves down the toilet.
@gustavo41896 Oh is that why this tv show ran for over a decade becuase no one liked it? That makes alot of sence, if your a retard that is. Newer comedy is what blows, shows like this are classic.

But recently in my teenage years and adulthood, I've grown to love it so

oh how sad. I just now found out about Trevor Bannister. This was such a great show. It always makes me laugh a lot no matter how many times I watch each episode. It's sad that most, if not all, are gone. R.I.P.
@PantyhoseLos Trevor and most of the others who have gone were too young to die really and they had a lot more to give I felt. I think Trevor Bannister would of done some more theatre if he could of done, I wish I could of met him. He was such a cheeky lovable actor. He reminds me of my favourite actor Daniel Crossley and also Richard Breirs when he played Tom Good. Are you being served is the best...its just so well written
@ITSDANIELCROSSLEY It was not that way in the least, as I love the characters both Inman and Bannister portrayed very much. My apologies for you not taking it as the praise it was meant as.
@danielcrossleyfan Hi there. I meant that Mr Humphries says that Mr Lucas is going to have a heart attack, and because I had just read the sad news of Trevor Bannister's death - of a heart attack - it felt like a weird prediction!
How many department floors are in Grace Brothers? Here's what I remember at the moment that have been mentioned at least once: 1) Ladies' Intimate Apparel and Men's Wear 2) Haberdashery 3) Bathroom Fittings 4) Toiletries 5) Toys 6) Shoes 7) Sports 8) Paint 9) Bedding 10) Do-It-Yourself 11) Hardware 12) Novelty Candles 13) Joke 14) Pet 15) Accounts 16) Packing If I missed any please let me know! :-)
the look that blooms on Trevor Bannisters face at 26:19 is priceless! I am so sorry that he has died and that I never met him. He was an incredible guy bless him.
@Deathscythetransform about three or four weeks ago. He was an old friend of my Aunt's so I had met him a couple of times too along with his wife. Lovely guy!
@Deathscythetransform yes most of the cast have gone now. Trevor was too young to die really and he had a lot more to give I felt. I always adored his cheeky smile. Sweet man x
@vigo894 thanks for your kind comments. I am a little freaked out by the news as only last week I decided to re-watch my are you being served box set and now ive found he's died so ime a little freaked out by that. He was totally my favourite in are you being served and I always found him very interesting and inspiring to watch. He was too young to die and I still feel he had many more acting years in him. He would never of retired. R.I.P Trevor. You will be so greatly missed. thanks xx
@poppinsexpert= You're welcome. There's more to British comedy than Monty Python, which I love really much of course. I first saw Are You Being Served on PBS, and became an instant fan.
@vigo894 yes it is a great comedy series with an all star cast. I adore it and all the characters but...Mr Lucas was always my favourite character in the show. I loved his cheeky personality and the way he always made fun of Mrs Slocombe. It was never the same when Trevor Bannister decided to leave the show after the seventh series sadly. thanks again :) x
This was a great show and I used to watch it every time I saw it on PBS here in America. I liked it and I am only 26 now and was only about 14 when I used to see it on there. Hilarious and smart comedy.
Someone had all the seasons(at least I think) posted around June 2008, but they were gone by October, together with the uploader's channel. I hope this will last longer!
Big thanks for posting this. I used to work in a clothing store when I was in high school and when I used to get home late on Saturday nights after 13 hours of dealing with the damn customers I used to relax and watch this. Love it!
I love this program, When I was young, my mother worked at a very old department store that had a similar mgmt structure to Grace Brothers and I remember the banter between the ladies in her department being off the cuff. I've told her about this being on television, but never could get the timing right to have her see it. She's going really get a kick out of this. Its about the funniest thing I've seen, the comedians were "over the top."
Oh i love how much mrs slocombe likes mr lucas in the beggining... only to know that some time later all she could say about him was how cheeky he was :P
Im from America and this showed aired years ago here and I just fell in love with it. I want to buy the entire series. Even the lasts ones which they were in some kind of house or something. Mr. Humphries is my favorite. I love him soooo much. I cannot wait to get the series.
@jcden1 the "last ones" you refer to is actually a different series. it's called "grace and favour" a spinoff after grace brothers closes. it only lasted 2 seasons. as like you, back in the day i thought it was the same show. hope this helps :) p.s. i found all of the "grace and favour" episodes on youtube.
@mtwini09 -I didn't know there was a movie and I watch this all the time..a friend of mine's got me into these britcoms when i was in my 20's i'm 45 now lol..her grandparents actually I had NEVER seen this before but they had and laughed so hard when Mrs. Slocombe talked a/b her pussy and the look on my face of shock, cracked them up lol
@renfroe1980 Thanks, you know I should have stressed that WHYY does not show Britcom's any longer. I am aware of NJN still showing Britcom's but not "Are You Being Served"!
AWESOME, I wasn't even a twinkle in my Father's eyes when this originally aired but I simply adore "Are You Being Served". PBS stopped airing all Britcom's about a year ago in Philadelphia and I really miss this show. My favorites are Mr. Humphries, and Ms. Slocombe!
@MaceMn my favorite are " strong stuff this insurance" because of the last scene when they hear the reports, "no sale", and "a change is as good as a rest"
I'm only 33 but sort of grew up on this show on public television, I can't believe only two of the cast are still alive.

Someone had all the seasons(at least I think) posted around June 2008, but they were gone by October, together with the uploader's channel. I hope this will last longer!
Thank you for posting this!

Thanks for posting :)

Im from America and this showed aired years ago here and I just fell in love with it. I want to buy the entire series. Even the lasts ones which they were in some kind of house or something. Mr. Humphries is my favorite. I love him soooo much. I cannot wait to get the series.
jcden1 1 year ago
@jcden1 the "last ones" you refer to is actually a different series. it's called "grace and favour" a spinoff after grace brothers closes. it only lasted 2 seasons. as like you, back in the day i thought it was the same show. hope this helps :) p.s. i found all of the "grace and favour" episodes on youtube.

Slocombe!

@nw8000 The theme song was performed by Stephanie Gathercole (aka Rumbold's first secretary).

Thanks! I remember this episode. This was one of my favorite AYBS episodes. It sure is good to see this British classic again.

@DAMGoodEntertainment Mine too. Forward Mr. Grainger was great too.
MaceMn 1 year ago
@MaceMn my favorite are " strong stuff this insurance" because of the last scene when they hear the reports, "no sale", and "a change is as good as a rest"
