Americans DO call some sweet potatoes yams, but that's OK, cos true yams really aren't that tasty. I LOVE sweet potatoes though, as long as they are simply baked and topped with butter and pepper, maybe a bit of salt if you use unsalted butter. I also love them french fried. For Thanksgiving I bake them, cool them a bit, scrape them from their shells and mash with butter, orange juice and a little freshly grated ginger. Add a bit of orange zest and a BIT of brown sugar & S&P, then reheat.
Actually the part about "what can I tell you about potatoes that you don't already know?" part, I kdont know a single thing that Mike said until he said it.
@burningeagle12345 : HI, actually the sweet potato and yam are totally different items. Unfortunately many stores in North America selling what they call Yams are actually selling you Sweet Potatoes.
happy to say that I planted some of your yukon gold in a potato bag on my window sill. They are starting to grow... Indoors. What's so special about that? It's fall nothing grows in the fall. I suspect I should have potatos by late Nov early Dec. I live in an apartment so one way or another I get veggies all year round.
@Jaieliza: Successful farmers are ALWAYS educated. It's a cut-throat business these days, especially for a small farmer. Agricultural college is a necessity to be competitive. They don't teach only farming but business as well. I only wish they concentrated more on 'organic' or 'natural' farming and warned about GMO products. Of course, so many of them get funding from Big Ag, that they don't dare. Instead they teach about all the chemicals, pharmaceuticals and the 'advantages' of GMO products!
@Jaieliza Sorry, I just noticed how old your comment is. I guess this video doesn't have that many comments. But, I'm sure you probably don't even remember making a comment after all this time.
@2hotinaz Its coo one of the thing that I love abot the show is that the people many of us walk past are more educated and hardworking that most of us are and it time we really focus n those making something in thier life other than people making sex tapes.

I KNEW that was a purple potato.
They're actually really fun to grow, you can buy em at the market and cut the eyes off, stick em in the ground and voila.
