Friedkin is a great director...but:

I could have done without the story, of an adult asking a child, if they masturbated ...just to cast them in a movie.

Hollywood be damn, masturbation is not a topic to discuss with another person's child...just for a fucking movie

@Encom7 :It's done all the time. Spielberg used a Clown on the set of Close Encounters--as a substitute for the Alien. I'm not taking anything away from Friedkin's direction ---it's just this type of discussion with a minor that sounds like it's crossing the line.

Linda says in the making of that she didn't know anything about masturbation... Nobody told her about the meaning of the scene when she did it. The director just wanted her to hit a box full of blood, with the crucifix. So, if William says the truth... That Linda already knew about masturbation before shooting, she lied in the making of.

I noticed that too. In the Fear of God documentary, Linda Blair said she didn't even know what masturbation was until many, many years after filming the scene. Hmmm

Why hasn't William Friedkin done another horror movie? Nothing has ever been as scary as his production of The Exorcist. From it's soundrack to it's realistic documentary feel. It would be so great if he teamed up with William Blatty again if Blatty would write another horror book about something else.

Friedkin made a lousy horror film around 1989 called THE GUARDIAN, which is about druids.

I love how he describes Linda Blair as a down to earth kid who was comfortable with masturbatory subject matter and that's why he hired her. On the dvd documentary she, as an adult, says she had no idea what she was doing in that scene until many years later. Friedkin's account seems more realistic. I can understand why she might be uncomfortable about it though. Glad I got to see this. I'm a big fan of his. Thank you.
