  • the 2010 mustang is 900lbs lighter than any previous mustang, the guys at ford really trimmed of the fat on the 2010 and increased the front track from 65" to 70" 80% of the new gt is carbon fiber like the ZR1. the 2008 mustang KR weighs just over 3400lbs minus all options.

    Corvette's been king of the road since they came out in 1953, the 1968 makko shark 427 ran a 242mph run at the mercedes test track in 1967 with Jim Hall at the wheel. as much as i love stangs supras , vettes will be #1 king.

  • Sorry man, had to bust you on that. I know the aftermarket for the Mustang is huge, but don't think the Mustang is the only car you can do anything to. Civic guys make the same mistake. The LS3 is an increble engine that responds hugely to mods. A basic very liveable street cam upgrade will net you ~50 rwhp. Also the Camaro's suspension upgrades will go a lot farther. You can make a Mustang handle as good as the Camaro on a track but it will not be as comfortable on the street.

  • Funny how Chevy's 500 bhp car is over a second faster at just about everything than Ford's 500 bhp car. 0-60, quarter mile, 0-100. The Corvette trashes the Mustang. No argument. You do know the Camaro only weighs ~400 more lbs than the Mustang with over 100 bhp more right? So by your theory a Civic Si should be faster than a Mustang. It has over 100 bhp less, but its lighter so it'll be faster right?

  • Dude the supersnake runs 80k. Reason the KR is so expensive is cause of dealer mark-up. The supersnake comes with upgraded brakes and suspension and has 2 hp options one (650)hp does retain the warranty while the 725 hp doesnt. As for the engine blowing up you must be kidding cause the 5.4 gt500 engine is rated for well over 1000 RWHP as proven by Evolution Performance and their TT stock gt500 engine

  • Ford makes some killer engines I know. But they waste it by throwing it into a Mustang chasis. And of course the Supersnake will be fast. But it won't be fast for the kind of power it has. Example, the GT500 is not a slow car, but for a 500 bhp car its horribly sluggish. With 700+ bhp it will be a very potent snake, but you better hope you don't run into another 700+ bhp car. And dude lets be real. I'm sure you can push the GT500 to 1000 rwhp, my question is how long will it last?

  • Yeah i know its pretty sluggish but thats just cause of the weight and bad slippage do to shitty tires. Drag radials takes the gt500into high 11's easily. Evolution performance's 1000rwhp mustang has broke into the 8's plenty of times. Hell some say the block is rated for 1500 rwhp. Anyway check out car and driver on the new 2011 mustang. Thats when they are changing the engine and according to them a 6.2L upwards of 400hp is an option. Plus the gt will still be several hundred lbs lighter.

I think the Camaro and Challenger just caught them off gaurd. I really doubt the Mustang will get much lighter though. This new version actually gained a few lbs. The main reason the Mustang is lighter than the Camaro is the simple live axle compared to the IRS on the Camaro. If Ford upgrades the suspension, it'll get a lot heavier.

  • Ford tried the IRS with the cobras and owners werent happy. The mustang is the #1 modified/drag raced car in america. Live axle is preferred to IRS when drag racing... so i wouldnt expect them to change that.

  • With ordinary differentials if one wheel breaks loose, it spins like crazy while the other does nothing. Limited slip diffs basically make the other wheel move too. It makes cars brainless to go uphill on ice with no traction or abs, and is much more stable than old fashioned diffs.

  • There are going to be three options for the 2010 GT called 3 (315hp stock),4 (400hp supercharged for $2,500 extra) and 5 (500hp supercharged for $4,500 extra). The stock price is said to be around 24k, so for $28,500you can have a 500hp mustang GT that is a few hundred pounds lighter then the current GT-500, New Camaro and Challenger. Can you say mid 11s stock. This new stang will give the Corvette a run for its money.

  • The Mustang will never bow up to the Corvette. The problem with the Mustang isn't power. Its the weight and suspension. The GT500KR runs a 4.8 second 0-60 run and a mid 12 second quarter mile pass at best. Its not a case of 'oh just shave off a few pounds here and there and it'll run with a Corvette no problem'. Thats WAY slower than a Z06. Not even close to being in the same class. This 'new' Mustang GT will get walked by the new Camaro SS, forget about the Vette.

The ZR1 is a 10 second car off the show room floor and is also the most fuel efficient 600+ bhp vehicle ever made. Even the base model Corvette is faster than the GT500. Chevy has stepped up their game. Whats Ford done lately? Made the Bullitt Mustang standard? WOW. 315 bhp? No way. Amazing. How is Ford just so creative? The mustang is the most customized american sports car, Ford leaves the motor alone to let the fans build their on... ford gives you a soild build & nice look and lets you create your own Pony. All you would have to do is buy this then put a kenne bell S/C on it and get around 450HP lol thats all you need...

You can slap on a huge supercharger and make 500 bhp all day...but still run only a 12.8 in the quarter mile (AKA the GT500, which has a better transmission and bigger engine than the Mustang GT). A 500 bhp GT500 is still slower than a 400 bhp Corvette.

  • Okay there brains, the GT500 is $44,000... the GT is $23,000... do the math, now if you want more power out of the GT best way is to buy a S/C and put a 3:73 gear in it and a few little motor bolt ons. It will run right beside the GT500KR even & will you have saved about $15,000 dollars... or you could use that extra 15 grand to make it faster then a vette if you like... same with the camaro they can be built up to pass their big brothers with what money you can save.

  • The GT is $24K. If I want more power than 315, I'll go to the Camaro. 420 bhp, Brembo brakes, fully idependent suspension, it all comes standard on the Camaro. It comes with everything a Mustang wants to have. Sure you could build up a Mustang to be insanely fast, in the same sense you could build a Civic. I don't want to have to build a car to be fast. And I'd much rather have a Corvette engine under the hood than last years Mustang GT engine, wouldn't you?

    The Camaro SS will have the LS3 under the hood (the same engine found currently in the 2009 Corvette)

  • These in my books are not muscle cars. traditional muscle cars were small light semi compact vehicles with engines too big for their own good. they are not supposed to be heavy. 1969 camaro-3120lbs 1965 mustang- 2800 and on the heavy side, but is a huge car in comparison, 1969 gto 3900lbs.

  • The ZR1 is even liked by Top gear, which is a feat in itself. The base corvette is always a best buy. The new V-6 camaro has 300hp for $22-24k, has IRS, and gets in the high 20s for mpg, and pre production test drives have been nothing but good reviews. The SS will also be an amazing bargain. They are good cars, handle better than most cars on the road gobs of power for unbeatable prices.

  • I thought this is actually one of the best things that Ford's ever done. Reaching out to the "real" community and not trying to get joe shmoe to trade in the mini van or whatever for a mustang. And it's events like these that keep the company alive, and for the first time, my hat goes off to Ford since they did this. Finally paying tribute, to those that have helped them.

    And great production Matt, one of the best episodes, not just content, but the editing and cinematography was excellent.

  • I bought an '05 Mustang in Nov. '04 when there weren't too many of the new models out yet. The car looked great but too many small problems here and there. But after seeing the 2010, I want to get another one. I just turned mine in cause the lease/warranty was over.

    Also, that convertible looks awful IMHO. To bad no one will ever see these on the road because Ford and GM will be under by this time next year.

  • Good point! You have to admit they do sort of look alike... especially from a side angle... but the more and more i look at the Stang it resembles the 69' model... which was really muscular in stature... if you will?

  • The Camaro has always copied the Mustang from the begining. Ford always changed before Camaro made a move and quite often Camaro copies and then one-ups.

  • It looks good and I like Mustangs but I still won't buy one. Retro style is a novelty that wears off quick. I especially hate the retro suspension.

  • Yeah, does the Mustang have IRS yet or is it still a solid axle?

  • rumours say it still runs on the live axle which is sad,but hopefully they will have IRS and a LSD as a option,then this will be a great mustang
