HA! Taufik's backhand was great in 2004 and it has only got stronger since. Does anyone know if he was doing backhand smashes in games in 2004 as well, or is that a newer thing?

Taufik is on world stage for more than 10years now. He started playing internationals at the age of 16 (won Brunei Open) and at 19 (which was 2000 Olympics) he was number 1 seed. So, Yes the backhand smashes goes back before 2004. The only thing is that he plays backhand smashes occaionally (that's why you dont see that many) where as drops and clears are more apparent.

He has beaten Lin Dan 15-3, 15-7 after loosing to him twice before when people start saying that he can't beat Lin Dan.

Taufik is seriously the best in the world i guess u could say, however his stamina isn't or hasn't been enough to help him win his matches. If you look at recent ones like the Japan Open Finals and such, he doesn't last enough for the 3rd set.

Lin Dan on the other hand is like a robot, hes the most destructive nd most powerful in the world, but lacks skill sometimes, he has it, but doesn't show it enough.

But either way, they both are great players and can beat anyone, as long as its their day.

@orochiThing well, you could say there isn't really a best in the world anymore since the 2008 Olympics. China and Korea both left Yonex for their own country sponsors(Li ning and Victor). A lot of big names didn't participate in many of the tournaments by Yonex, being part of the reason Lin Dan lost the 1st place title. There were reports that Lin Dan's coach only allowed him to play some of the bigger tournaments like Thomas Cup and such so he got to rest up and also train more.

The only person I see with the most potential now would be Lee Yong Dae.

Even if you want to compare titles, Taufik was in his prime condition in 2000 taking home the Thomas Cup for Indonesia and 5 other events. I'm not trying to argue whoever is better here, but pointing out the fact that Taufik's technical skill as in backhand, net shots, and trick shots are a bit superior to Lin Dan and vice versa for Lin Dan's strength.

Um, i watch alot of Lin Dan games too. He is a fast and sound player. I think is the epitome of all Chinese badminton players. Fast, dynamic, and very physical on the court. Thats one style of badminton.

Taufik has the natural hitting style. He doesnt have all the muscles Lin dan have. But he hits just as hard and plays with better strategy and more skills with the bird. taufik simply places crazy drops, well designed attacks and crazy crazy backhand.

Ya, I'm sure he didn't want to win in his match with Lin Dan. IF he didn't want to win then he shouldn't be competing. This world is about results. And regarding their lousy attitudes, they've both had their share of it...eg. Taufik at HK Open, Lin Dan kicking his racket...I'm sure you've been pissed at something before...they're freakin amazing, but still human.
