There is no more need for both to fight. Both Khmer and Tai were subjects to the Syam empire. There is no mention of Khmer anywhere in ancient history. Khmer identity appeared after the fall of Angkor. Before then, Kambujian people were known as Syam. Its in every historical record of the other kingdoms. The name Syam is everywhere. The Khmer identity just simply did not exist before the 14th century :)

When I think about it I don't think that anyone copied each other. Thailand, Cambodia and Laos are all very very close to culture, language and tradition because they are in very close proximity to each other. It's kind of impossible for them not to share any similarities. When you look into it further, all Southeast Asian countries seem to be a mixture of Chinese and Indian cultures. Yet you don't see China and India calling anyone out on this. Everyone should stop this nonsense.
