Back in the 80s this style of music was called "New Wave".. now it is more commonly known as "Electro Pop".

Many new bands like The Killers; Ladytron, Fischerspooner and Shiny Toy Guns claim this style of music amongst their main influences.

to me it's all about the producers, when you get into Hi NRG, then it gets even more complicated cause you had Miami, (expose, safire) and you had the more hip hop(produced by the latin rascals). Yeah, Hi-nrg and italo disco are the same.
