  • So glad there is a board game reviewer out there like Tom who gives you his honest opinion. Keep up the good work!

  • I have tried to play this game, and your review is spot on. Great job! It is a snore fest!

  • VVVVVVVVVVAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSCCCCCCCCCOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Poxa pensei que fosse um jogo de Futebol com o meu time de coração... kk

  • "You don't feel the wind"? It's not a sailing action game. You are not a sailor, you are a boss, a planner. Anyway, your behaviour in this video (not your opinion about the game) is really pathetic.

  • Thumbs up for honesty and barfing sounds.

  • The apology gets more views than the review

  • achei que era outra coisa '-'

  • I wish secretly that Tom find more BORING games and reviews them.

    His reaction is hillarious!

  • Good on ya, Tom. If it's shite, call it that.

  • I think ur playing it wrong

  • And I thought I'm the only one who thinks this game is absolutely boring. Yes, the "innovative" main mechanism is soooo exciting...

Thank you for the entertaining review!

  • Hey I've seen a few of your reviews :) So far I have liked them... pretty good depiction of the games from what I've seen :)

  • This why I hate euro games. Yes, they're complex and have a lot of strategy, but they are boring as heck.

  • @gentleuterus its an acquired taste, but there are good ones and there are bad ones. just like everything really.

  • Tom you rock. Thanks for an honest review. Glad to see you taking off the gloves on a game that is very high in the hotness list.

  • Vasco da Gama is a heavy economy game. You have to spend a least a weekend to fully understand the rules. If you like this kind of games, it's great. So I don't understand why you order all people to "don't get it".

  • @neopugg A heavy economy game? LOL

  • Tom, this is easily one of my most favorite reviews you've done. If anyone wants to play this kind of game with some actual theme and character, play MACAO. Excellent fun!

  • @senorcoo

    actual theme and and character?

Vasco da Gama is a very important Navigator! He discovered the Sea Route to India!

  • Go TOM! And to the rest of you "Why are opinions like male members? Because every jerk has one." Which when translated loosely states "You can not please them all." Or for those of you who rabidly love the game "There is another one born every minute."

Etc etc etc. Now that you are no longer angry at Tom and are mad at me i will respond with this comment "Who cares? It is just an opinion and it ain't about your moma!!"

  • I love this review and your new one too.

  • Good for you Tom! Thanks for taking a stand against overly mechanical Euro-trends. Too many games out there without any soul.

  • hahaha excellent review

  • So Tom, did you like this game....

  • Awesome review Tom! I appreciate when you have a strong reaction (positive or negative) to a game, whether I agree or not with it. - In this case, I couldn't agree more.

  • Tom, has you *really* tried this game?

BTW: This game is one of the favorits for the "Deutscher Spielepreis" - it's not true, that there is no interaction or any new ideas.

  • Well - the game may be dull but at least it spawned this highly entertaining review

Thanks a lot, Tom, and keep them coming! :-)

  • Tom - I hope you are feeling okay! Hopefully those publishers that want you to review another Mediterranean trading game will watch the video first and think about how innovative the game is before sending it your way!

  • The game looked boring... No player interaction... seems boring... I won't buy this game... The theme has been overkilled

  • Comment removed

  • @mrmgrace "No player interaction"? You're so wrong!

  • Looks a lot like AOE 3, but a very simplified game. Probably looks like many other games, though. But for some folks this could be the first game of such kind and they will love it, because they never have played or seen such mechanics, and then they will try AOE and say - AGAIN?? boring!! :))

  • lol... loved this review.

  • Where's your Chaos In The Old World review? It's a great game that's been out for a little while now.

  • The nuns on the run review was the complete opposite! Sounds like nuns has a boring theme too -- nuns. But as you can see Tom only cares about the gameplay mixing well with the theme to create a NEW and interesting game. If the game has already been done many times then it must be better than its predecessors. It seems Vasco da Gama has a theme and gameplay that has been done way too many times, good for Tom to call it what it is.

  • @0breadbeard0

ok i'll bite.. what game did Portuguese maritime exploration better than Vasco?

  • Yes, the tone a bit harsh. I must say I was delighted to see someone with his clout finally say that the games with these themes are boring! I thought the review as funny as it was brash. Some people love this style of crude critique, although I don't think Tom's fans do... I still gave the review a thumbs up Tom!

  • Don't review angry.

  • @scottosmall

I'll second that. Nothing wrong with the content, just turn down the tone. If I wanted that much anger I'd watch Fox.

  • @scottosmall I like it, it always produces funny reviews ^^

  • Poor and disappointing review Tom. You claim to understand the game, but certainly did not explain it well; skipping over its innovative parts (mixing push-your-luck with worker placement) and getting other things wrong.

Secondly on theme, I know that you like to rag on medieval and renaissance shipping/trading games, but you must realize why there are so many games with that theme, right?

  • @YoksterMan I think that he explained it just fine, it's a worker placement game. Just looks to be a boring version of one.

  • @jasrags It's actually a very fine worker placement game, with a very interesting push-your-luck element. That additional element did not come across in Tom's review.

  • @YoksterMan theres so many shipping games cuz publishers know they can release carbon copys of other shipping games and people like you will still buy them.

  • @tiagobazik

Don't blow a fuse buddy, he's just trying to make a point. The theme need to work with the gameplay to create an experience. This "Euro game" business is nearing its end and developers insist on milking it for all it's worth. In this game, the theme just doesn't work and it ends up feeling like you're doing homework instead of playing a game.

  • @tiagobazik I don't think he is tired. His "Nuns on the Run" review, for example, had lots of positive energy in it. He just naturally don't like to talk about a game he doesn't like. He just wanted to get over with it!

  • @tiagobazik .... seriously, for stating his opinion on his own channel.

  • Thats...a change from the normal review I've seen.

I've never seen Tom so vividly opposed to a game before ^^

  • @redstar918 Watch his Chromino review. He got similiarly vivid about that one :D

  • Slowly slipping into madness with the European shipping games. Themes are lacking everywhere

  • "Don't even feel the logical nature of a spreadsheet." Oh boy, THAT is bad.

  • an omelet without any eggs, huh? sounds like I'll pass on this one. thanks for the review Tom.

  • HAHAHAHAHA, it's been long since I saw Tom get so upset and frustrated over a boardgame. :D
