as a spaghetti western lover, I dislike it that most people know this song because of Kill Bill. I should actually be glad that Tarantino makes much more people appreciate Morricone's work, but no-one knows the original meaning of this music.
@PaulRietvoorn The Mercenary is sik, so is Kill Bill. Two different interpretations that work just as well as each other! Such is the magic of Tarantino.
@PaulRietvoorn who cares where they heard it. That's a little selfish to think people should only appreciate something good because of one source. I heard this from Kill Bill, but then I wanted to know who wrote the song, and before I knew it I was watching Fistful of Dollars, Magnificent Seven, etc. Hearing this music in a non-western film doesn't make it sound worse, if anything it's good that people are getting exposed to something they might not have considered before.
@MrSoprano92 they both are but Corbucci is very underrated, at least his westerns are, even though his westerns are probably on the same level as Tarantino's movies and some such as this one and Companeros are actually better than most of Tarantino's work in my opinion, but Corbucci never gets the credit he deserves by most :/
@MrSoprano92 Tarantino isn't on Corbucci's level. Don't get me wrong I love Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds, But Sergio Corbucci is an infinitely better filmmaker than Quentin Tarantino. It's not even close.
Everytime I watch this shootout I smile. I can't help but smile. I have probably watched it over 30 times and it never gets old. It gets better everytime! Great movie, great score!
Old songs being recycled in new culture is never a bad thing; stop trying to act cool by attacking fans of a different era. We all love the music, regardless of when/where we first heard it.
@PedanticNo1 Hundreds of comments about Tarantino is fine, but when a couple of people mention that this ISN'T originally from a Tarantino film (and mentioning that Corbucci is a better filmmaker) and you think you're under attack. Grow a pair and watch better movies.
I'll admit I was brought here by the Tarantino film Kill Bill, but by placing these songs in his films he acknowledges Morricone's genius just as much as the people who looked for it. In addition it also led us to the Corbucci film! We know already so lay off!
it shows how many people have missed out on watching some of corbucci's finest work, when all i see for comments here is something about a tarantino film and punching through coffins!!!
You people do realize this is from The Mercenary, starring the Franco Nero, Tony Musante and Jack Palance, Directed by the great (and I do mean fucking great) Sergio Corbucci? Just curious.
No one can know for sure if Heaven exists, or if God created the earth. But Ennio Morricone proofs here that something divine must exist. Music like this proofs there is something more then what we know. Something above us, something pure, something sacret
Can anybody identify the music from this advert "Kelloggs - Crunchy Nut - Flush Him Out - UK Advert" Its a total rip off of L'arena but ironically is probably more well known in Britain and Ireland than the original. It was in a number of adverts in the 80s.
sans tarentino et son kill bill je n aurais su cette belle musique d ennio.car trop jeune quant ce film est sorti ! donc merci a quentin d avoir remis au gout du jour cette superbe musique ! morricone est fantastique !!!!!
I think alot of the time allesondro allesondroni(not sure if my italian is right)does not get enough credit. He does the whistling and guitar playing in most of Ennio (I think) and when I listen to morricone thats the part that sets it off as so original sounding, to me at least.I think both of them together is what made them so good to begin with.
Great song. Th thing is, I had 2 hard boiled eggs for breakfast this morning and while I was listening to this I had a fart and it smelled EXACTLY like hard boiled egg. To be honest I do kinda like how my own farts smell. This has nothing to do with the song really and the song, like I mentioned before, is awesome...it's just that it happened while I was listening. So I listened and smelled and liked them both alot. Thank you for posting.
Your comment is exactly as necessary as your farts, you muppet. If you have to say you like it then say it, if you have to say you don't like it then say it.
I have to say ... I love it. I heard it in cinema when I was young, I heard it now and right away I remembered. It's one of the best Morricone tunes.
@quaqua1qua Yes, but it does come across as something that the gunfighter might have said...then shot the bum. ;^) Never take life any more serious than you take death seriously. Me I love this tune, the irony you missed was how well it fits the movie and many others as well. Me? I don't take life or death serious unless someone is paying, then I'm serious.
@varfordojesus, Good opinion but little value, with or without Morricone (he is the best) the West is the West. Before Morricone there was the West. Maybe, just maybe, the West made Morricone. The movies do not necessary reflect the life of our Western lifestyle. I live in the West, the cowboy life.
Ennio Morricone is the one who created the western spirit in my opinion. The movies wouldnt have been much without this astonishing music. Just take "Le Clan Des Siciliens" or "Pour une Poignee Des Dollars" as another example. Im certain of the fact that if Mozart lived today he would also have used modern instruments as electric guitars etc. And in my opinion morricone combine instuments in a perfect way. A true talent!!!
you may laugh at this but this remindes me of my grandmother she was bravest women heck person i have ever known she faught cancer better then any mani know RIP grandma
A magnificent theme with the use of full orchestra, plus the chorus with the brass and guitar parts as well as the shares of other well-known music and Morricone`s instruments. Outstanding is the section between 4:06 and 4:10 minute, which means the final of the gunfight! I know quite well the film music the great composer E. Morricone as and the film music of others great composers the film music and it seems to me that this topic is unsurpassed, unique!
In Memoriam: I would like to dedicate this music to the life of Policeman Hostage-taker for his bravery dying in a shootout fighting against the rotten system a Callous gullibility of governance from an inexperience Leader… I respectfully salute you Sir! No shit! But he place it at the exactly right place in his movie! He's a genious in that way. But, your right, the graditute should also be hailed at the fantastic composer Ennio Morricone! :-)
É muita música para pouco filme...quantos filmes do passado lembramos hoje somente através das sua músicas. Só o tempo mostra que a musica do mestre é muito maior que os filmes. Quantas estatuetas "oscar" lhe foram negadas?

Ennio Morricone was made for the western genre.

When I study for finals or have a hard time writing papers, I pop in this song and I get the strength to punch through that coffin known as school.
