I love this one. it's true that the dialogue necessarily limits the story, and I can't claim to really understand exactly what's going on, but there's still something hauntingly beautiful about it that doesn't need explanation.

it's the closest we ever come to some real emotion and maturity

the dialogue feels organic to the events on screen

and yet, it too falls short: it flat lines pretty quickly

The boys face at the end was amazing, though.

This is what I got: They live in the ghetto and the boy brought his blind sister who gets made fun of, to a donkey and told her it was a unicorn to get her away from their harsh reality for a while.

I think I get it, but I don't see why it would be anyone's favorite out of all of them.

Poinient. The boy tells the girl that the donkey is a unicorn, and to her, this ordinary creature is magical. Who knows how hard it was for him to get it up into that room.

yet I think that the ending, the close up on him staring pensively, made up for it. It beats a clever scenario and special effects any day in my book.

@IFOUNDEET I felt that built Mateo's character considerably - he goes from someone who is committing a little lie (and I don't mean that in a bad way) to inject some beauty into his blind sister's life, to someone who is a protector and overseer. It enobles him.
