My father is being buried next week and this is the song we are playing as he leaves the church. He always sang this lovely song
and, although in Birmingham for 50 years, is from near Newport, Co. Tipp, on the Mulcair River. Couldn't find the lyrics anywhere. Does anyone know them or could post them?
Actually Dennis Ryan is singing here. He was a member of Ryan's Fancy, a Newfoundland based band of Irish expatriates, Fergus O'Byrne & Dermot O'Reilly. Dennis has a very distinctive voice, one that I''ve been listening to for over 30 years..
Many thanks for posting this - my grandfather was from Doon originally but lived most of his life on his farm at Kilcommon, North Tipp. - I learned the song from him as a child, but have not heard it now for years - this brings back many happy memories
Yeah it is fine song which is very rarely heard these days unless of course I sing it in a pub session or when Im back in Limerick with family relatives that also sing it. It was my grandfathers song that made him a legend around our village in Oola, Co.Limerick.
does any know of another version sung by the Southern Pride..."Where The Sweet Black Water Flows"

Yep, I have a number of their recordings saved on my favourites list and I also have a couple of LP's of theirs too. A legendary band of musicians.
