  • My father is being buried next week and this is the song we are playing as he leaves the church. He always sang this lovely song

and, although in Birmingham for 50 years, is from near Newport, Co. Tipp, on the Mulcair River. Couldn't find the lyrics anywhere. Does anyone know them or could post them?

  • ì love this song, it reminds me of fishing on the mulcair river

  • im from cappamore right next to doon

  • @12345TheRonan cappamore's a fine place. I have friends from there and often to go to Hayes for dinner, you get a fine feed there.

  • My dad is from doon

  • nice one

  • Yep, I have a number of their recordings saved on my favourites list and I also have a couple of LP's of theirs too. A legendary band of musicians.

  • Caoimhe, ryans fancy went off to Canada and became a phenomenal success. They have loads of albums and many are up on youtube.

  • hi...who is singing the song....lovely version...

  • Yes this is Denis Carey singing this version and was taken from the album entitled 'Newport Town'.

  • @LimerickLad25

Actually Dennis Ryan is singing here. He was a member of Ryan's Fancy, a Newfoundland based band of Irish expatriates, Fergus O'Byrne & Dermot O'Reilly. Dennis has a very distinctive voice, one that I''ve been listening to for over 30 years..

  • this version is ryans fancy. My aunt has the album

  • Yep correct you are smicker !! and a very good album it is, some classic old irish ballads on it !!

  • Many thanks for posting this - my grandfather was from Doon originally but lived most of his life on his farm at Kilcommon, North Tipp. - I learned the song from him as a child, but have not heard it now for years - this brings back many happy memories

  • Yeah it is fine song which is very rarely heard these days unless of course I sing it in a pub session or when Im back in Limerick with family relatives that also sing it. It was my grandfathers song that made him a legend around our village in Oola, Co.Limerick.

  • great song... any chance you know where id be able to get it... my fathers party piece...up limerick
